Former FC Cincinnati striker Aaron Boupendza dies aged 28
Former FC Cincinnati player Aaron Boupendza has died at the age of 28 after reportedly falling from his 11th-floor residence in China.
The Gabonese striker was living in China and playing for Chinese Super League club Zhejiang FC.
'We are saddened to hear of the tragic passing of former FC Cincinnati forward Aaron Boupendza earlier today at his home in China,' FC Cincinnati said in a statement. 'Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and teammates. He was a loved member of the FC Cincinnati family, and we offer our condolences to all who knew him.'

FEGAFOOT, the Gabonese football federation, said in its statement that Boupendza had fallen from the 11th floor of his building in China.
'Boupendza is remembered as a great striker who made his mark during the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon,' wrote FEGAFOOT. 'The Gabonese football community offers their sincere condolences to his family during this difficult time.'
Boupendza joined Cincinnati in the summer of 2023 as a designated player, initially signed to a four-year contract. He spent only a single season in Cincinnati, scoring seven goals in 24 appearances. His time at the club was not without controversy — in 2024, Boupendza suffered a broken jaw in a barfight with a professional boxer. Boupendza's contract was terminated several months later, after he missed several weeks of training.
Boupendza's club career was long and varied, with stops at 12 clubs in under a decade, having played in France, Portugal, Romania, the United States, Turkey, China, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Internationally, Boupendza featured for Gabon 35 times, scoring eight goals.
Gabonese President-elect Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema paid tribute to Boupendza in a post on X on Wednesday morning.
'It is with great sadness that I learned of the tragic passing of Aaron Boupendza, a talented center forward who brought honor to Gabonese football,' wrote Nguema. 'I offer my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. May God bless his soul.'

CINCINNATI — Just minutes before a scheduled MRI, the Cincinnati Reds placed starter Hunter Greene on the injured list with a right groin strain. Greene said he felt discomfort on his last two pitches in the fifth inning of Tuesday's victory over the Milwaukee Brewers and left the game. Tuesday was his third start back from the IL, which was one of the reasons the team returned him to the IL. Because he wouldn't be ready to pitch again until Wednesday, Miley said Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall told him he'd have a place in the team's bullpen, but wanted to let Miley explore an opportunity to start elsewhere. Miley said he talked to a couple of other teams, but was happy to return to the Reds. Miley's family is in Cincinnati for the season, so he spent the time 'being dad' and coaching baseball games and practice for his son Jeb. Miley was already expected to be in the Reds' bullpen on Wednesday, but Greene's injury created an opening for him in the rotation. Francona said Miley would be available to pitch out of the bullpen Wednesday, but if he didn't, he'd start Monday in Cleveland. In 2021, Miley threw a no-hitter for the Reds against then-Cleveland manager Francona's Guardians at Progressive Field. England star Millie Bright pulls out of selection for Women's Euros for health reasons
England defender Millie Bright withdrew herself from selection for the European Championship on Wednesday because of health reasons. "Right now I'm not able to give 100% mentally or physically,' Bright wrote in a post on Instagram. The absence of the 31-year-old Bright — a long-time, first-choice center back for her country — is another blow to England coach Sarina Wiegman, who saw experienced goalkeeper Mary Earps announce her retirement from international soccer last week. On Tuesday, another stalwart of the England team — midfielder Fran Kirby — also retired from national team duty. Bright made herself unavailable for the recent England camp featuring games against Portugal and Spain and later said on a podcast: 'Mentally and physically I'm at my limits."
