MACC seized, forfeited RM31bil in assets over last 5 years, says Azam

PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized RM3.54 billion and forfeited RM27.87 billion in assets over the last five years, says MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.
Speaking at an MACC event in Bangi today, Azam also said the anti-graft agency received 34,819 reports of alleged corruption and abuse of power between 2020 and April 2025.
Of these, he said, 5,145 investigation papers were opened, with 5,703 individuals arrested, 2,479 prosecuted, and 1,274 convicted.
'We will not compromise with offenders, including MACC staff. Harsh action will be taken against any member (of the agency) found guilty,' he said at the second MACC Accredited Law Enforcement Programme Convocation ceremony.
Azam noted that the post-pandemic era and global economic challenges have increased social pressures and opportunities for corruption.
He also urged continued collaboration across all sectors, including government, academia, private industry, and civil society; and not only in enforcement but also in education, research, policy development, and technology.
Azam said anti-corruption efforts must begin with instilling strong values from an early age both at home and in schools.
He also said MACC had reduced the time taken to investigate high-profile cases from 18 months to just six.
Azam credited the improvement to updated investigation procedures, enhanced officer training, and the use of advanced technology.
He said that while multiple officers were previously needed for surveillance measures, advances in technology now allow MACC to locate suspects and witnesses much faster and with fewer resources.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Johor police are seeking a man involved in a brawl with a lorry driver at the Kempas Toll Plaza in Johor Baru around 2.30pm last Sunday to assist in their investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for affray in a public place, which carries a penalty of up to six months' imprisonment, a RM1,000 fine, or both. Members of the public with information about the incident are urged to contact 07-5563122 to assist in the investigation.

PM Anwar says Malaysia to join UN meet on Palestine despite US warning, unlikely to attend personally
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Malaysia will send a representative to attend the United Nations (UN) conference in New York next week, which aims to discuss a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said Malaysia supports the efforts by France and Saudi Arabia in taking the initiative to hold the conference. 'Any country has the right to attend and express their views, particularly regarding justice for Palestine and Gaza; that is our stance. '... and I support the initiative by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia (who is also the Prime Minister), Mohammed bin Salman, and French President Emmanuel Macron (to organise the conference),' he told reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Azzubair Ibnul Awwam in Cheras today. Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar. Anwar said this when asked to comment on media reports that the administration of US President Donald Trump had issued a stern warning to governments worldwide not to attend the UN conference. The reports said Washington emphasised that any country adopting a stance against Israel would be considered contrary to US foreign policy and could face diplomatic repercussions. The reports also noted that the United States rejected any unilateral recognition of the State of Palestine. When asked whether he would attend the conference, scheduled to take place from June 17 to 20, Anwar said, 'I myself probably will not.' France and Saudi Arabia are reported to be the main organisers of the conference, with Paris said to be considering the unilateral recognition of Palestine. — Bernama

MACC Seizes RM16 million in Luxury Items from Tan Sri in Cheras
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized another RM16 million worth of luxury items linked to the misuse of sukuk funds for the construction of a highway in Klang Valley believed to be owned by a concession holder with the title of Tan Sri yesterday. The MACC said the seizure at the individual's residence in Bandar Tasik Selatan, Cheras included 84 luxury bags worth about RM3 million, 11 branded watches (about RM1 million), gold bars, coins and statues (about RM3 million), diamonds and jewellery (about RM4 million). 'A luxury casino equipment set estimated to be worth RM150,000 was also seized,' the commission said in a statement, adding that a secret vault that stored weapons and ammunition was discovered but the weapons were not seized as they were registered under the security company the individual owned. An Anti Corruption Tactical Squad (ACTS) conducted the search of the individual's residence as he was suspected to be keeping weapons in the vault. 'The MACC received information that there was a vault storing valuables, including weapons, linked to the case in his residence. 'The presence of the ACTS team was to ensure safety and to escort officers and seized items back to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya,' the commission added. Meanwhile, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the search and seizure and did not deny the possibility that there would be other seizures linked to the case. He said that the process of taking the individual's statement had to be postponed to a later date due to health factors. The MACC had previously seized a total of RM143 million worth of valuables linked to the case.
