Canucks sign defenceman Derek Forbort to one-year, $2-million contract
VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman Derek Forbort to a one-year US$2 million contract, the NHL club announced Tuesday.
The 33-year-old Forbort had 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 54 games with the Canucks in 2024-25.
The six-foot-four, 216-pound defenceman has 19 goals and 87 assists over 550 career regular-season games with Los Angeles, Calgary, Winnipeg, Boston and Vancouver.
In 35 career playoff matchups, Forbort has recorded three goals, two assists and 33 penalty minutes.
Forbort, from Duluth, Minn., helped the United States win gold at the 2010 under-18 world championship and also represented the U.S. at the 2011 and 2012 world junior championships.
He was selected 15th overall by Los Angeles at the 2010 NHL draft.

Base metal stocks help lift S&P/TSX composite, U.S. stocks also up
TORONTO – Strength in base metal stocks helped Canada's main stock index move up in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets also climbed higher. Blue Jackets centre Monahan awarded Masterton Trophy for resilience and leadership
NEW YORK – Columbus Blue Jackets centre Sean Monahan has been awarded the 2024-25 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, the NHL announced Thursday. The award honours perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey, commemorating Bill Masterton, a Minnesota North Stars player who died from an on-ice injury in 1968, and is voted on annually by the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Monahan earned the trophy for his resilience and leadership after the tragic death of his close friend and teammate Johnny Gaudreau last August. He signed with Columbus last July to reunite with Gaudreau, with whom he played nine seasons in Calgary. Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were struck and killed by a driver charged with impaired driving while they were cycling in New Jersey on Aug. 29, 2024.
