Saudi Arabia Expands Transport Network in Preparations for Hajj 2025

Leaders04-05-2025

Hajj 2025 will witness Saudi Arabia's largest-ever mobilization of transport resources, ensuring seamless movement for millions of pilgrims. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has readied 25,000 buses and 9,000 taxis as part of an integrated national plan.
Building on these efforts, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) secured over 3 million flight seats for scheduled and chartered arrivals and departures. Oversight teams will monitor airport operations rigorously to guarantee efficiency and safety. Air Travel Enhancements
Matarat Holding Company deployed 18,000 staff across 11 lounges, introducing initiatives like 'Traveller Without Baggage' for pre-shipping luggage and Zamzam water. Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) stands fully operational, offering 1 million seats via 2,000 flights using its 158-aircraft fleet.
Moreover, Flynas, the budget carrier, will operate 294 flights from 15 international hubs, serving over 120,000 pilgrims. These measures reflect Saudi Arabia's commitment to scalable, passenger-centric air travel solutions. Rail and Road Readiness
Rail expansion complements these initiatives, with Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) planning 2,000 Al Mashair Metro trips to transport 2 million passengers between Mina, Muzdalifah, and Arafat. The Haramain High-Speed Railway, equipped with 35 electric trains, will shuttle pilgrims between Makkah and Madinah at 300 km/h.
On land, the Roads General Authority maintained 7,400 km of roads, inspected 247 bridges, and deployed 300 monitors to ensure structural integrity and traffic flow. These upgrades prioritize safety and accessibility during peak movement periods.
In maritime operations, Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) stationed 436 personnel at Jeddah Islamic Port to streamline customs and entry logistics for 5,000 pilgrims. Saudi Post (SPL) activated a two-month campaign with 62 vehicles and 57 outlets, including refrigerated units for medical supplies.
Finally, the National Transport Safety Center (NTSC) will manage emergency responses across all transport modes—air, land, sea, and rail—during Hajj's peak days. This ensures rapid resolution of disruptions while maintaining operational continuity.
This integration of health logistics highlights Saudi Arabia's holistic approach to pilgrim care, blending tradition with modern infrastructure. By integrating cutting-edge infrastructure and multi-sector collaboration, Saudi Arabia reaffirms its commitment to delivering an exceptional pilgrimage experience in 2025.

World's largest cooling system activated at Grand Mosque ahead of Hajj 1446

Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has activated the largest cooling system of its kind in the world, as part of preparations for the 1446 Hajj season. The system boasts a total capacity of 155,000 tons of cooling. The air conditioning infrastructure of the Grand Mosque relies on two main stations: Al-Shamiya Station, with a capacity of 120,000 tons, and Ajyad Station, with a capacity of 35,000 tons. These stations cover the entire mosque complex, including all expansion areas, ensuring pilgrims experience moderate and comfortable temperatures ranging from 22°C to 24°C. To maintain optimal air quality, the system integrates advanced purification technologies capable of removing 95% of airborne impurities. This ensures a clean and safe environment for pilgrims, particularly during the peak summer heat. Proactive and continuous maintenance is being conducted by the Haram Authority. This includes the replacement of key components, securing work sites, and efficient resource management to accommodate heightened demand during Hajj.
