Insults and gestures exchanged between Richardson Hitchins and George Kambosos Jr in face-off ahead of bout

Independenta day ago

Richardson Hitchins and George Kambosos Jr proved they are hardly the best of friends ahead of their IBF super lightweight clash, exchanging insults at the Empire State Building.
The pair met at the iconic New York Venue to face-off for the first time during fight week, with Hitchins defending his title against challenger Kambosos Jr on Saturday, June 14, live on DAZN.
It will be Hitchins' first defence after winning the belt off Liam Paro in December 2024, taking a split decision win away from home in Puerto Rico.
Kambosos Jr said that he aims to spoil Hitchins' Big Apple homecoming, pointing out his two previous wins at the Garden.
The Australian defeated American Mickey Bey in 2019 before shocking Teofimo Lopez to claim the WBA, IBF, and WBO lightweight titles in 2021.
Highlights of the pair's lowbrow conversation included Hitchins trying to set a wager with Kambosos, initially betting $50,000 that he was going to win at Madison Square Garden before raising the stakes to $100,000.
Kambosos' mind games centred on claiming that Hitchins lacked oral hygiene, telling his opponent on multiple occasions that 'your breath stinks'.
Hitchins claimed: 'You know I ain't going nowhere. Run from you? You ain't got nothing for me. I promise I'm gonna stop you. Right in your face all night. Easy work, easy f*cking work.
'I've been here a billion times, (I'm) world champ for a reason. This sh*t ain't going nowhere, it's saying in New York. He don't believe in himself. I bet you I stop you, you bum. F*ck you. He's getting knocked the f*ck out.'

Kambosos Jr's response had slightly fewer swears, stating: 'I know where you're going – run, run, run, run, run. Your breath stinks bro, you stink. That talk's easy, brother. I'm smarter than you.'
After first meeting in the bowels of the Empire State, the duo renewed their war of words on the rooftop shortly after.
This time Kambosos Jr started the insults, beginning: "Look at ya, you skinny-looking thing. You look scared. I can't talk with this guy; this guy's breath stinks."
Hitchins was undeterred, replying: "I promise you, you will not be saying what you're saying after the fight. I promise you, bro. I'm not Lomachenko."
The reigning champion then pressed Kambosos Jr about their wager, saying his opponent had shaken on it.
He restarted: "Bet that $50,000 then. How (do) you shake on it and then take it back?"
Kambosos Jr stated that he instead planned to stake the same amount with the bookies, who have priced the contender at 7/1. "I spoke to my financial advisor - why the f*ck would I bet $50,000 on you, one-on-one, when I could put my $50,000 on $7 odds?
"That's $350,000 bro."
When Hitchins pointed out that they had already shaken hands, Kambosos made a vulgar gesture with his nether regions, telling his opponent to 'shake on that'.

Swift attended the hockey championship series game in Sunrise alongside her NFL boyfriend on Thursday evening from a luxury suite. Heading into the sudden-death period, Swift had an animated comment to her partner, feeling the nerves of the game. 'My heart was like...' Reports: Brian Rolapp leaving NFL to become PGA Tour's CEO

June 13 - NFL executive vice president Brian Rolapp is headed for a new role as the CEO for the PGA Tour, multiple media outlets reported on Thursday. According to reports, Rolapp decided to depart his role after working 22 years with NFL. The hiring at the PGA Tour has not been confirmed, but NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reportedly messaged team execs Thursday informing them of Rolapp's decision. Rolapp will take charge of PGA Tour Enterprises, the circuit's newly created for-profit outfit, The Athletic reported. The PGA Tour has been seeking a CEO to work alongside commissioner Jay Monahan since December. A few notable names have been linked with the position, including NASCAR commissioner Steve Phelps. Rolapp stands as a natural fit, as he has been NFL's lead media and business officer during a period of exponential growth by the league. He is considered a potential successor for Goodell, and a new role as a CEO at a different pro sports endeavor likely wouldn't change that. Rolapp has been in his current role overseeing advertising, sponsorships and media contracts since 2017. Before then, he was the NFL COO and senior VP of media strategy and digital media. He also was the CEO of NFL Network and executive VP of NFL Media. The PGA Tour has a committee that has been in search of the next CEO. It includes Monahan, PGA Tour player directors Tiger Woods and Adam Scott and Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, among others. Monahan, whom Rolapp would report to, replaced Tim Finchem as commissioner of the PGA Tour in January 2017, becoming the fourth person to serve in that role. --Field Level Media

Knicks dealt ANOTHER blow in head-coach search as Hawks block interview with Atlanta's Quin Snyder

Add Quin Snyder and Billy Donovan to the list of NBA coaches the New York Knicks aren't allowed to speak with. As ESPN's Shams Charania first reported on Wednesday night, the Knicks asked permission to speak with the Atlanta Hawks head coach about their own head-coaching vacancy, only for the Hawks to firmly deny that request. A Hawks spokesman has since confirmed the report to Daily Mail. Later in the evening it was also reported by Chicago insider K.C. Johnson that the Bulls have also turned down a request from New York to speak with their head coach in Donovan. Since firing Tom Thibodeau after the team's most successful season in a quarter century, the Knicks have already been denied permission to speak with Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka, the Minnesota Timberwolves' Chris Finch and the Dallas Mavericks ' Jason Kidd, according to various reports. The Knicks got more bad news over the weekend when former Villanova coach Jay Wright pulled his name from the running. Wright had been linked to the Knicks because he previously coached current New York stars Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart with the Villanova Wildcats. In 2020, Knicks president Leon Rose interviewed Kidd and Udoka, both of whom briefly played for New York, only to name Thibodeau, a former Knicks assistant, as the team's new coach. Thibodeau was fired after an upset loss to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals and the team is now desperately searching for his replacement. A former star player at Duke who went on to coach at Missouri, Snyder helped turned the Utah Jazz into a perennial playoff contender from 2014-15 until 2021-22, when he resigned as head coach. In February of 2022, Snyder was hired in Atlanta to replace the fired Nate McMillan and managed to guide the Hawks to the playoffs. Since then, Atlanta has missed the postseason in 2024 and 2025. Thibodeau broke his silence about the firing this week by thanking Knicks fans for their support. 'To the best city in the world with the best fans in the world: Thank you,' Thibodeau wrote in the statement. 'When I was hired in 2020, I said this was my dream job. I am grateful that dream became a reality. 'Thank you to our players and coaching staff who gave everything they had and to everyone who makes this franchise special. I am proud of everything we accomplished together, including four playoff appearances and this year's run to the Eastern Conference finals - our first in 25 years. 'And to the fans, thank you for believing in me and embracing me from day one. Watching you support our team, and seeing the Garden ignite with that incomparable Knicks energy, is something I will never forget. With gratitude and respect, Tom Thibodeau.' This season the Knicks reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000, but were ultimately upset by the Pacers in six games. In fact, the Knicks reached the playoffs in four of five seasons under Thibodeau, who led the team to its first back-to-back 50-win seasons for the first time since the 1990s. This came after the Knicks failed to reach the playoffs in seven seasons prior to Thibodeau's arrival. Thibodeau finishes his career in New York with a .511 winning percentage, which ranks fourth in team history behind Red Holzman, Pat Riley and his former boss, Van Gundy. Remarkably, Thibodeau has the highest career winning percentage (.579) of any coach who hasn't reached an NBA Finals, according to ESPN. The Connecticut native was an assistant under Riley and Van Gundy in the late 1990s and early 2000s before joining Van Gundy with Houston and working with Doc Rivers in Boston. Ultimately Thibodeau was given the Chicago Bulls head-coaching job in 2010, and has since coached the Minnesota Timberwolves as well.
