2025 RBC Canadian Open TV ratings: Viewership up from a year ago
Ryan Fox earned his second PGA Tour win of the season — and the second of his career —when he outlasted Sam Burns in a marathon sudden-death playoff at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open over the weekend.
Fox and Burns played four extra holes, each making par on the par-5 18th the first three trips down until Fox hit a beautiful second shot with a fairway wood and made birdie on the fourth rendition to end it.
Fox took home a cool $1.764 million for his trouble and an exemption into the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont this week.
The excitement of a national open always draws eyes, especially with an exhilarating finish like that. According to Sports Business Journal's Josh Carpenter, CBS reported 2.376 million viewers tuned in to the RBC Canadian Open, up 18 percent from a year ago when Robert MacIntyre hoisted the trophy.
Still, 2023 remains the gold standard in terms of viewership for this event. Canadian Nick Taylor's thrilling playoff victory over Tommy Fleetwood drew 3.304 million viewers, according to SBJ.

"He took a lot of notes, a lot of mental notes, and he may have written some things down. "I do know that after he sustained the injury, it was either in February or early March, you can order these calendars that start on a specific day and then they count days. "So there was a calendar sitting in our training room and every day he would come in and take one off, take one off. He was counting the days down to being cleared sometime in August and then be able to begin training camp, begin five-on-five with our guys in September and then be in training camp, really, with his eyes firmly set on an opportunity in the playoffs. "So he's putting a lot of work to be ready for these moments, and tonight he was an absolute major factor." Playing in the Finals, in front of the intense fans in Indianapolis, "is a dream" but one he doesn't want to get caught up in. "I'm not trying to live in my dream," he said. "I would say that the biggest influence career is Ben Hogan, Greg Norman and Tiger Woods," he said. "Tiger Woods pushed the boundaries on what we thought was possible with golf. As time goes on, Scottie Scheffler is an inspiration as well in terms of how well he's playing. "I want to play to that level and inspire to play to that level as well." It's not every day that a reigning U.S. Open champion tips his cap to a rival, but Scheffler's dominance has made it hard to ignore. Scheffler won the 2024 Masters at 10-under, earning his second green jacket. Last season, before the trade deadline, the San Antonio Spurs added All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings, hoping that he would be the long-term running mate for Victor Wembanyama. A few weeks later, Fox had his season ended as well, undergoing surgery on his pinkie finger. In 17 games with the Spurs, Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists, clearly needing to get used to his new team. He expects to use the offseason to settle into his role with his new teammates and is already playing five-on-five and has been cleared for contact. 'I'm doing well. The surgery went fine,' Fox told The Houston Chronicle. 'I've been cleared, so I played a little five-on-five, and I've done contact stuff, so I'll be ready for next year.' The Spurs gave up Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Sidy Cissoko, and four first-round draft picks to the Kings and Chicago Bulls in a three-team deal to land Fox, although several of those picks had protections on them, and one of them ended up not conveying to the Kings.
