All 403 constituencies should reap benefit of major schemes: CMYogi

1 2 Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday directed officials to ensure that each of the 403 assembly constituency in the state should directly benefit from at least two to three major schemes. The CM passed the directive while chairing a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of major schemes under the Public Works Department and to discuss future strategies. He also stated that local representatives should conduct Bhoomi Pujan or foundation stone laying ceremonies to foster greater public participation in the development process. Directing all 75 districts to submit proposals under the Public Works Department's 18 flagship schemes by June 30, the CM instructed district magistrates to work in close coordination with local public representatives to ensure that the proposals reflect the specific needs of each region. Emphasising timely submission, the CM also stressed that development planning should be driven by local priorities and not political boundaries. Highlighting the importance of linking religious tourism with economic empowerment, the CM directed officials to annually select the top 50 religious sites across the state, based on historical significance, spiritual importance, and footfall of devotees, and prioritise road construction and infrastructure strengthening to improve access. He noted that enhanced connectivity to these sites would not only enrich the cultural experience of visitors but also stimulate the local economy. The CM underscored the need to adopt an integrated approach to road connectivity across the state. Referring to major expressways like the Purvanchal, Agra, Yamuna, Bundelkhand, and the under-construction Ganga Expressway, he said these have significantly improved East-West connectivity. He added that the time has come to build a robust North-South road corridor, which would enhance intra-state movement and strengthen regional integration. He placed strong emphasis on road quality, maintenance, and safety, directing that no road in the state should have potholes. Acknowledging that over speeding and damaged roads are key contributors to accidents, he instructed that all accident-prone black spots be identified, and tabletop speed breakers be installed wherever necessary. Emphasizing the need for a targeted strategy in regions prone to floods and heavy rainfall, the CM noted that minor bridges and roads in such areas are frequently damaged due to waterlogging. He directed officials to prepare and submit proposals in advance, based on weather forecasts, so that repair and reconstruction work can begin promptly once the rains subside. To ensure timely execution and high quality of development works, Yogi instructed all DMs to appoint a nodal officer in each district responsible for conducting weekly reviews of project's progress. He also mandated the compulsory presence of public representatives in monthly and bi-monthly review meetings to strengthen transparency and accountability. Yogi also issued strict directives to identify tainted or suspicious contractors, thoroughly investigate them, and take appropriate action where necessary.

Farmers prosper as Gorakhpur e-way turns into reality

Gorakhpur: The Gorakhpur Link Expressway has become not only a symbol of fast-paced connectivity and regional development, but also of farmer prosperity. Yogi govt ensured landowners who contributed their land for the mega project were duly rewarded. As many as 22,029 farmers were paid compensation of Rs 2030 crore in a transparent process, laying foundation for a development model built on trust and participation. Spread across four districts—Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Azamgarh—the project required acquisition of 1,149 hectares of land from 172 villages. Compensation payments were made through direct benefit transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and timeliness. Of the total land acquired, Gorakhpur district contributed maximum, with 570.73 hectares from 88 villages. A compensation of Rs 1,248.28 crore was disbursed to 1,2935 farmers. In Ambedkar Nagar, Rs 438.04 crore was paid to 4,741 farmers for 297.88 hectares. Azamgarh saw 3931 farmers receive Rs 328.71 crore for 259.25 hectares, while in Sant Kabir Nagar, 422 farmers received Rs 15.26 crore for 20.91 hectares. Govt's farmer-first approach was evident when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honoured 500 land-contributing farmers at a special ceremony held in 2020 in GIDA (Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority) area. The Chief Minister felicitated 40 of them. The expressway, stretching 91.35 km from Gorakhpur to Azamgarh, is now set to be inaugurated on Friday. As the corridor prepares to fuel industrial growth, farmer cooperation and trust stand out as the true pillars of this success story.
