Plymouth's late fightback strikes huge blow to Sheffield United promotion bid
Substitute striker Muhamed Tijani scored an 88th-minute winner as basement side Plymouth dealt a huge blow to Sheffield United's automatic promotion hopes at Home Park.
Tijani scored from 12 yards out after United failed to clear Bali Mumba's dangerous cross and the ball fell kindly to the striker. Ryan Hardie cancelled out Jesurun Rak-Sakyi's 44th-minute opener after 81 minutes to set up a dramatic Argyle comeback, with huge implications at both ends of the table.
Chris Wilder had made five changes to the Sheffield United side beaten at home by Millwall on Tuesday, with Callum O'Hare, Rak-Sakyi, Harry Clarke, Vini Souza and striker Tom Cannon coming in. Jack Robinson looped an early header over from Rak-Sakyi's corner while former Argyle goalkeeper Michael Cooper was untroubled.
United took the lead through Rak-Sakyi in the 44th minute as he cut inside on his right, sending marker Nathaneal Ogbeta the wrong way, and let fly with his left foot into the far corner past diving keeper Conor Hazard.
Hazard made a superb 51st-minute save to deny Rak-Sakyi his second, then saved Anel Ahmedhodzic's downward header from a Gustavo Hamer corner five minutes later. Ryan Hardie's shot on the turn hit the top of the crossbar in the 65th minute, with Wilder making a triple change as the Blades aimed to hold on to their lead.
Their resistance was broken with nine minutes to play, in-form Hardie clinically finishing from close range after latching on to substitute Joe Edwards' scissor kick from a corner. Tijani's strike won it two minutes from time, sparking wild celebrations before players on both sides clashed after the final whistle.

Sheffield United's third straight defeat means they are five points behind both Leeds – who beat Preston 2-1 – and Burnley in the promotion race. Plymouth stay bottom but are just three points from safety after a dramatic comeback victory.

Evans was called upon less frequently last term in a difficult season and joins the likes of Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof in exiting the club. Tom Heaton remains in discussions over potentially extending his stay. It had been suggested Evans' departure could mark the end of his career, after Evans noted 'It was stay here or retire' last summer. The defender is yet to make plans however. "I'm not sure yet," Evans told BBC Sport NI when asked about his future . "I'll take a bit of time. I don't feel like I'm in a rush to do anything." In his eight years away from Manchester, Evans spent three years at West Bromwich Albion and five years at Leicester. The central defender added an FA Cup victory in 2021 to three Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup and two League Cup success across his two stints with the Red Devils. Evans earned 107 caps for Northern Ireland and provided some analysis on where the nation stands during his appearance on BBC. The ex-Sunderland loanee is hopeful his former boss, Michael O'Neill can lead the country to World Cup qualification. "When you've got Michael O'Neill in charge, he gives everyone a little bit of hope," said Evans, "He's taken the team to a major tournament before and if you want anyone in charge, it's him. "When I look at this team it reminds me of ourselves. He's playing five at the back and he has Isaac Price, he's on a good run of form. "You look throughout the team, you see Dan Ballard and Trai Hume getting promoted, they'll be playing Premier League football and that'll only be good for the team. I'm excited. Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are in the running to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to reports. Chelsea confirmed on Wednesday that they are not taking up their £25 million permanent option to sign Sancho following his season-long stint at Stamford Bridge and have paid a £5m penalty fee to send him back to United. Sancho's future is now uncertain as it's understood that Ruben Amorim has no plans to integrate the 25-year-old into his squad for United's pre-season campaign. According to The Sun, Sancho has already attracted interest from three Premier League clubs with Spurs, Villa and Newcastle all keeping tabs on the winger's situation at Old Trafford. It's claimed that Villa will aim to secure a loan deal but United are looking for a permanent sale this summer.
