Lando Norris reveals key lifestyle change to help bid to land F1 title glory

Daily Mirror23-04-2025

Lando Norris is looking to become the Formula 1 world champion and in a bid to do so has given up alcohol as he cited the small margins in an immensely competitive season
Lando Norris admits he's given up alcohol in his bid to become the Formula 1 world champion. The McLaren driver is among the favourites to land the title and admits he "can't afford" to dabble in partying.
Norris is now a multiple race winner following his breakthrough in Miami - which is nearly 12 months ago. The F1 grid will head to Florida in less than a fortnight and upon their visit their last year the McLaren driver made unwanted headlines after cutting his nose whilst partying.

He suffered a facial injury while partying in the Amsterdam. He cut his nose on broken glass during the Koningsdag (King's Day) celebrations in the Dutch capital during a rare week off and had to don a bandage on his nose - images of which went viral on social media.
Back then Norris wasn't in a title fight but now is firmly in the picture and, whilst he admits he'd love to enjoy a drink with his pals, he has had to up his discipline given the nature of his challenge and the calibre of those he's competing against.
He told Viaplay: 'I would have loved to go again because it was one of the best days of my life. And last time, I won in Miami straight afterwards. I miss all my friends. I had a good week in Amsterdam with Martin [Garrix, DJ], but I'm fighting for the World Championship now.

'I can't afford to do that now. I have to go back home and train. The [Jeddah] race was physically demanding and I'd like to have a drink now. But I haven't had a single drink all year and I'm proud of that. I just have to keep working hard and can't go out and party. I'm competing against the best in the world here – Max [Verstappen], Oscar, Charles [Leclerc] and George [Russell]. If I make even the slightest mistake, I have to pay for it immediately.'
Norris won the season opener in Australia but has been unable to stand on the top step of the podium since with several errors costing him in the weeks since. He finished fourth in Sunday's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix with a crash in qualifying all but ruling him out of a race win before Sunday.
He's seen team-mate Oscar Piastri win three races already this season with the Australian cutting a cool figure as he held off Max Verstappen in Jeddah. That has sent the McLaren driver to the top of the standings as he makes the most of the pace of the car underneath him.
Norris only finished off the podium for the first time in Saudi Arabia but by his own admission has struggled at times, particularly in qualifying. He called himself an "idiot" after his recent crash and later said: "I should be fighting for pole and especially on a Q1 [sic] lap I shouldn't be taking any silly risks like I seem to have done. I'm going to review it all, like I said."
The Brit has also confessed: 'It's when I perform well, when I'm having fun, and I'm relaxed. I'm probably putting too much pressure on myself at the minute."

Brad Pitt unveils midlife-crisis makeover with girlfriend Ines de Ramon after shock family estrangement remark

Brad Pitt unveiled the latest evolution of his midlife-crisis style when he and his girlfriend Ines de Ramon were spotted out on a date night in New York City on Friday. The 61-year-old Oscar winner seemed to channel his Fight Club character Tyler Durden's sleazy style as he stepped out in a shiny lavender silk shirt that was left partially unbuttoned to reveal some chest hair. Brad held his 32-year-old girlfriend's hand as they were spotted exiting a building in Midtown Manhattan shortly after he was forced to deny that he was using her to promote his upcoming racing drama F1. The actor has been focused on his relationship and his new film in the wake of exclusive report on how he now believes that his relationship with some of the children he shares with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie is 'unfixable.' Brad lit up the night with his lustrous shirt, which complemented a lilac suit he wore earlier this week in Mexico City while promoting F1. It hung loosely on his fit frame, and he made sure not to tuck it too tightly. He stayed on theme with an eye-catching pair of casual black velvet pants and shiny black square-toed shoes. Despite it being the evening, Brad wore a pair of large metal-frame sunglasses that might have suited his outfits in Ocean's Eleven and its sequels, and he sported the same sleek buzzed haircut that he recently debuted. Although Brad was once known for mimicking the style of his girlfriends and wives, he doesn't appear to have the same kind of fashion connection to Ines, who wore a strikingly different — but still stylish — outfit. She had legs for days in a beige ruched minidress that hung off her shoulders and emphasized her hourglass figure. The brunette beauty complemented her dress with a beige quilted handbag and open-toe stiletto heels. Ines gripped brads hand tightly as they walked out of the building past a crowd of his fans pining for an autograph, with the Tree Of Life star taking the lead. Earlier on Friday, Brad was spotted in New York City in a striped mesh burgundy polo shirt with bright orange track pants. He paired it with amber-tinted aviator sunglasses, gray-and-yellow trainers and a gray suede Gucci duffel bag. Last month, while speaking with GQ, Brad was asked if he and Ines had chosen to make their public debut at the British Grand Prix in July 2024 in order to help promote his upcoming film F1. 'No, dude, it's not that calculated,' he responded. 'If you're living — oh my God, how exhausting would that be? If you're living with making those kinds of calculations? No, life just evolves. Relationships evolve,' he said, before noting that he had spent most of his public life being scrutinized in the public eye. She had legs for days in a beige ruched minidress that hung off her shoulders and emphasized her hourglass figure Earlier this week, Brad and Ines were on the West Coast before heading down to Mexico to promote his film. The couple traveled up to Carmel, California, the seaside town where Clint Eastwood was once mayor, and a local gave the details on their trip to their coastal love nest. 'Brad and Ines sightings in Carmel are regular,' a local resident said. 'They hit the fancy restaurants and shop at boutiques like Tancredi & Morgen just like all the locals. Brad has been seen with a hat and sunglasses on at Nielsen Brothers Market. 'No one hassles celebrities here because the locals don't like to make a fuss, they think approaching a celebrity is classless,' they added. 'So Brad and Ines get their space.' In 2022, Brad purchased the historic D. L. James house in the area, which is known as 'Seaward.' The home, which was built in 1918, is believed to be the most expensive property to ever be sold in the area. Even as Brad attempts to move on with his new relationship and put his divorce from Angelina Jolie behind him, he has still be dogged by his broken relationship with their children: Maddox, 23; Pax, 21; Zahara, 20; Shiloh, 19; and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. The oldest two, his adopted sons Maddox and Pax, have been particularly vocal about their distaste for their father. Brad made surprising statements about his family in Mexico. Earlier this week, a source close to him told that he considers his relationship to his oldest children — Pax (L) and Maddox (R) to be unfixable; seen with Angelina Jolie and daughter Zahara in September But even his younger children have made their estrangement between them apparent by dropping his last name, either legally — as in the case of his daughter Shiloh — or informally, like his daughter Zahara, who has referred to herself since going to college only by her mother's last name. This week, in exclusive comments to a source close to Brad revealed why he sees his relationship with some of his children as 'unfixable' at this point. Although Brad is usually tight-lipped about his family, he made surprising comments this week about the importance of family at the F1 premiere in Mexico City. 'No matter the mistake, you just learn from [it] and move on,' he told ET. 'It'll lead to the next success.' The Oscar winner continued, 'When you get to my age, you realize how important it is to surround yourself with the people you love, the people that love you back. 'Friends, family, and that's it,' he stated. 'From there, we get to go make things. It's a pretty simple, I think, equation.' Brad and Angelina began dating after shooting the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith together, and they tied the knot years later in 2014. But Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, just days after an infamous incident aboard a private plane in which she accused Brad of being physically and verbally abusive toward her and her children while intoxicated.

Makers of new F1 film say they could not have done it without Lewis Hamilton

Seven-time world champion Hamilton is an executive producer on the Brad Pitt movie, titled 'F1', which is released in the United Kingdom on June 25. Hamilton has been heavily involved in the script – which sees 61-year-old Pitt play the role of veteran driver Sonny Hayes returning to the F1 grid after a long absence – to ensure the film is as authentic as possible. Joseph Kosinski, the man behind Top Gun: Maverick and director of the F1 movie, said at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix: 'Lewis was the first person I reached out to when I had the initial idea for this. 'I sent him an email and just said, 'I want to tell a story in your world. I want to make it as authentic as possible. Will you help me?' And luckily Lewis said 'Yes'. 'He was involved in all the technical details with fascinating advice. In Hungary, for instance, he said, 'If Brad's going to let someone pass during a blue flag and he wants it to be as tight as possible, he's going to only do that at turn six'. SNEAK PEEK: The APXGP team meet for the first time! 👀#F1TheMovie – only in theatres late June Get tickets now: 🎟️#F1 — Formula 1 (@F1) June 11, 2025 'That kind of detail from a seven-time world champion who lives and breathes this world every day, I couldn't have got that from anywhere else. 'But Lewis also contributed to the story. There is a part in the film where Sonny Hayes talks about why he races and almost the spiritual side of it. And that also was inspired by a conversation with Lewis. So his involvement has been amazing. And we couldn't make the film without him.' Pitt's fictional rookie team-mate Joshua Pearce is played by British actor Damson Idris. Filming has taken place across multiple races over the last two seasons, and F1 chiefs hope the movie will follow the popularity of Netflix's Drive To Survive series in cracking America.

Mercedes' George Russell fastest in second practice for Canadian Grand Prix

The British driver, who took pole position in Montreal last year, edged out McLaren compatriot Lando Norris, with Kimi Antonelli underlining Mercedes' speed to set the third quickest time. Championship leader Oscar Piastri was only sixth, with Lewis Hamilton eighth, one place ahead of Max Verstappen, who had earlier finished fastest in the first running of the weekend. 🏁 END OF FP2 🏁 TOP 10Russell 💨NorrisAntonelliAlbonAlonsoPiastriSainzHamiltonVerstappenLawson#F1 #CanadianGP — Formula 1 (@F1) June 13, 2025 Russell has been one of the grid's standout performers this season with four podium finishes already under his belt, matching the tally he managed for the entire 2024 campaign. At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Friday, Russell's lap of one minute and 12.123 seconds was the fastest of the day to leave Norris trailing. McLaren have dominated the campaign so far, but in practice here they appeared to be lacking the advantage which has carried them to seven wins from the nine races staged. Norris was in striking range of Russell, just 0.028sec behind the Mercedes man, but Piastri was 0.439sec off the pace, having finished the first practice session in 14th. Williams' Alex Albon took fourth, with Fernando Alonso fifth, but the two-time world champion's Aston Martin team-mate Lance Stroll crashed out. Stroll, who had a medical procedure on a wrist injury which prevented him from contesting the Spanish Grand Prix a fortnight ago, thudded into the concrete wall at turn seven to bring an abrupt end to his session. The Canadian was the day's second major casualty after Charles Leclerc's preparations for the rest of the weekend were dealt a blow when he suffered a heavy accident with just nine laps on the board in first practice. The Monegasque crashed into the barrier on the entry to turn four and sustained significant damage to the left-hand side of his Ferrari. The force of the impact sent him sideways and across the other side of the chicane. 'F***,' said Leclerc on the radio. 'Sorry, I am in the wall. My bad. I should have gone straight, but I thought I would make the corner and I hit the wall.' Leclerc's survival cell on his Ferrari needed replacing which sidelined him for the remainder of the day. His accident marked an underwhelming day for Ferrari which will have done little to lift the gloom around the Italian team with Hamilton 0.530 sec slower than the pace-setting Russell.
