Orlando Pirates get huge boost in Rulani chase

Orlando Pirates will be encouraged by developments over Rulani Mokwena's future at Wydad AC in Morocco.
Former Sundowns boss Rulani Mokwena, still just 38, looks set to leave Wydad AC after a season in charge of the Botola Pro League outfit.
Orlando Pirates' league title challenge looks to be in tatters after their 0-1 home defeat to Sekhukhune. It leaves them 12 points adrift of leaders Sundowns, albeit with two games in hand. Key defender Nkosinathi Sibisi will miss the clash with Chiefs after his red card against Babina Noko. It's been a bad week for the Sea Robbers, who also tumbled out of the Caf Champions League at the semi-final stage.
Chaine; Van Rooyen, Xoki, Mbokazi, Hotto; Makhaula, Mbatha; Nkota, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng; Mabasa .
We could see Patrick Maswanganyi return to the XI, allowing manager Riveiro to revert to a back four. Tapelo Xoki should deputise for the suspended Sibisi. Elsewhere, Tshegofatso Mabasa is often the first-choice attacker in domestic league outings.

WOW: Orlando Pirates announce SHOCK double player exit!

Orlando Pirates are moving quickly in efforts to rebuild their squad ahead of the next season with incomings and outgoings. Pirates have reportedly already signed at least five players, while the number of exits is also growing ahead of preseason. In recent weeks Pirates announced the departure of midfielder Miguel Timm. The second exit was the departure of captain Innocent Maela who could take up a different role at the club. Following that, the Buccaneers have announced the shock exit of full back duo Thabiso Monyane and Paseko Mako. Pirates confirmed the exits of Monyane and Mako in a post on their official social media platforms. '𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐁 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔 We bid farewell to Paseka Mako and @ThabisoJames_34. The Club thanks them for their commitment and contribution to @OrlandoPirates. Wishing them the very best in their next chapters. 𝐎𝐧𝐜𝐞.𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬' Wrote the post. Both exits come as a shock for different reasons. Monyane is a Pirates academy product and spent his entire full career at the club until date. In previous season he had been touted as a big prospect not only for the Buccaneers but for Bafana Bafana as well. However, he has seen his last two seasons blighted with injuries which. Have derailed his progress. Last season, the club also signed Deano van Rooyen which did not help his cause. Before and after that signing, he had seen his name linked with an exit from the club. Mako on the other hand was a very useful utility player for Pirates. In the end, he was their first choice left-back and seemed to establish himself as a regular. Therefore his release would've caught many off guard, Money played 94 times for Pirates, scoring four times with the same amount of assists. Mako played 173 times for the Sea Robbers, scoring twice while making eight assists. How do you feel about these exits Buccaneers? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Kaizer Chiefs set to snatch rising star Ime Okon from rivals

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly closing in on a major signing ahead of the 2025/2026 season, with highly-rated defender Ime Okon believed to be on the brink of joining the Soweto giants. The 21-year-old's contract with SuperSport United ends this month, allowing him to leave as a free agent, and Chiefs have wasted no time in making their move. After lifting the Nedbank Cup, Amakhosi are determined to build a squad capable of challenging on all fronts under incoming coach Nasreddine Nabi. Okon, who has drawn attention with his physical presence and calmness on the ball, is understood to be a key piece in that puzzle. 'They (Kaizer Chiefs) see him (Ime Okon) as a long-term solution at centre-back. I mean, he is only 21 and he could challenge (Inacio) Miguel, who is almost 30, for that position. On top of that, his contract expires soon,' a source told The South African . Okon previously caught the eye of scouts abroad, having attended trials with Danish top-tier side FC Midtjylland and Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv over the past 18 months. Despite impressing, no deal came to fruition, and he returned to see out his contract with Matsatsantsa. This presented Chiefs with a golden opportunity, and they appear poised to capitalise. Okon recently featured for Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup. Which further strengthens his reputation as one of South Africa's most promising young centre-backs. His potential, youth, and international exposure make him an attractive prospect for a club eager to rebuild and restore glory. With negotiations believed to be at an advanced stage. And it looks increasingly likely that Okon will don the black and gold of Amakhosi next season. Will Okon be good enough to wear the Kaizer Chiefs jersey?
