Sha'Carri Richardson To Join ATHLOS League In 2026

Alexis Ohanian's all-women's track and field meet, ATHLOS, is set to make even bigger moves in 2026. The first iteration of the legendary meet featured historical prize money, a performance by Grammy Award-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion, and eight Olympic champions, including Gabby Thomas and Masai Russell.
This year, ATHLOS will return to New York City on October 10th, promising more exciting athletic performances and a more influential cultural movement. In 2026, Ohanian plans to take ATHLOS to even bigger heights, crafting a team-based, athlete-led track and field league with Olympic champions Sha'Carri Richardson, Thomas, and Tara Davis-Woodhall as the founding advisor-owners.

When starting a revolution, it is only fitting that the most recognizable personalities in the community be the faces of the movement. In addition to their easily identifiable personas, these faces must possess genuine leadership qualities and backgrounds to guide the movement in the right direction. This is what makes Richardson, Thomas, and Davis-Woodhall perfect for what ATHLOS hopes to accomplish.
Richardson, known for her daring spirit and difficult-to-beat top-end speed, brings several valuable qualities to the table that will set the ATHLOS league up for success. Notorious for her famous quote, 'I'm not back, I'm better,' Richardson sets the tone and needed mentality for this new venture. Ohanian is extremely vocal on social media about his desire for ATHLOS to continue outdoing itself every time they put on a meet. The world and Olympic champion shows herself to be committed to the same goals on and off the track. Richardson is vocal about her journey to continue bettering herself as a person and athlete, making this partnership an excellent match.
Richardson has also been seen on social media using her platform to address several issues that track and field faces on a frequent basis. Her fiery personality and aspiration to change track and field for the better will be essential when the league begins.
For now, Richardson has only been announced as an advisor-owner for the league. Details on her decision to compete at ATHLOS NYC this October will be released at a later time, according to an ATHLOS representative.
'To be announced/determined. Right now, we are focusing on her path to league ownership and actively participating in the development of track and field,' said a representative from the league. 'She's obviously excited about ATHLOS' impact, and she will be a part of this journey in many ways!'

Joining Richardson will be three-time Olympic champion Thomas. Thomas, proven to be one of the most versatile sprinters in track and field history, holds many talents outside of competition. Besides being known for her elite athletic abilities, Thomas is slowly becoming one of the faces of the overall women's sports revolution. In January this year, the Olympic champion joined the Board of Trustees for the Women's Sports Foundation. Additionally, Thomas has been seen supporting various women's sports ventures, including Unrivaled and League One Volleyball. Becoming the owner of an all-women's sports league seems like a natural progression of steps for Thomas.
Thomas' versatility and advocacy skills will be vital when advising league decisions. Her passion for women's sports will also drive ATHLOS to truly excel in its commitment to being by women, for women.

Lastly, Davis-Woodhall rounds out the legendary group. Davis-Woodhall's involvement with ATHLOS was announced in late April. She was used as the athlete to introduce the addition of field events to the league starting this year.
The Olympic long jump champion is an athlete with a passionate and energetic personality. Known for her light-hearted character, Davis-Woodhall is hard to look away from when she steps on the runway. Her ability to foster a welcoming environment while also standing firm in her competitive nature is what makes her invaluable to the league. Davis-Woodhall's cheerful personality creates an inviting atmosphere that brings together athletes and fans. This skill will help develop a strong fan base for the league, which is essential for ATHLOS' longevity.
Each of these women carries a set of skills that will aid in the development of the league. Ohanian leaves the future of ATHLOS in excellent hands with these three women.

With everyone's desire to elevate track and field, there are new suggestions and business ventures that arise every day, each with the hope of becoming the sport's savior. Track and field does not have a central league like the other major sports in the U.S. Instead, athletes can run in many different leagues or one-off meets in order to make money and improve their skills.
Currently, there are several variations of leagues that athletes can participate in, including the Diamond League, Grand Slam Track, American Track League, World Shot Put Series, and soon-to-be ATHLOS, among others. Each of these leagues offers a vastly different product for athletes and fans, making the race to change the sport even more interesting by the day.
The Diamond League was the premier series of competition in the sport for a long time and still holds that title due to its longevity and structure. However, the Diamond League has been criticized for its lack of substantial prize money.
Grand Slam Track offers never-before-seen athlete scoring and a historical payout of $100,000, making the storylines at each meet engaging for new and old fans to watch. Like the Diamond League, Grand Slam Track has also faced criticism, but this is largely due to their decision not to host field events.
ATHLOS was loved by many for its ability to blend culture and sport while offering a large prize purse. However, fans are still left wondering if the league will add more than just the long jump to the field events and if it will implement longer distance races.
Each league has its strengths and areas for improvement, but what is clear is that each is taking the proper steps forward towards crafting a viable future for professional track and field athletes. The Diamond League made the decision last December to raise their prize money. Fans recently applauded Grand Slam for listening to their audience and shifting from a three-day to a two-day meet schedule. ATHLOS had been criticized for not happening more than once a year. Now, they will host multiple meets in 2026 and showcase teams, something that is unfamiliar to track and field on the professional level and has been something fans have been asking for years.
No details have been released on when and how the teams will be chosen. Fans have also been speculating about which cities the league will travel to for competition.
While the Diamond League, Grand Slam Track, and ATHLOS continue to make improvements, other athletes and entities have been coming together to develop their own needed opportunities that these three leagues may not provide for them.
The World Shot Put Series, founded by shot put world record holder Ryan Crouser, is gaining a lot of momentum among field event fans in the sport. Following the removal of the 5k from the Grand Slam Track competition line-up, two-time Olympian Kara Goucher made a light-hearted pass at the league about trying to save the 5k with Boston Marathon champion and two-time Olympian Des Linden. Goucher and Linden are strong advocates in running the community, so if they decided to develop something, it would not be a surprise.
World Athletics president Seb Coe said his goal for LA 2028 was to have professional track and field be one of the most popular sports in America. With these new leagues emerging and developing their paths to innovation, Coe's dream may come true. Although the future of the sport is uncertain, what remains clear is that a complete overhaul of professional track and field is soon to come.
ATHLOS will announce more athletes competing in October over the coming weeks.

Where did this Blue Jays offence come from?

TORONTO — Most nights, Brent Rooker's fifth-inning double would've been a death sentence for the Toronto Blue Jays. It pushed two Athletics runners around the bases to score the A's fourth and fifth runs of the contest. Besting five runs would've been unfathomable for Toronto last week. It didn't score more than two runs on a six-game trip to the Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers, averaging just one score per contest. On the year, the Jays were just 4-21 when allowing four or more runs — until Friday. Advertisement The Blue Jays could've let up plenty more than five runs against the Athletics and still coasted to victory. Toronto's lineup battered baseballs for a second straight night, beating the Athletics 11-7 to move above .500, at 29-28. The Jays have scored 23 total runs in their last 18 innings against the A's — more runs in the two games than they've totalled in any series all season. Yes, the offensive explosion came against an Athletics team that entered the series with a 5.49 team ERA, third worst in baseball. Yes, the Jays tacked on hits against rookie relievers and position players. But those are the moments when good lineups put up sideways totals — the kind of games the Blue Jays' bats need to take advantage of. Before facing Toronto, Jeffrey Springs allowed two homers and four runs to the Philadelphia Phillies, the National League's top team. It was his worst start of May, after allowing just four total runs across the previous four outings. His start against the Jays could've been a classic rebound outing. Instead, Toronto chased him after two frames, scoring six runs off the starter. 'We did a very, very good job against the starting pitching,' manager John Schneider said. 'Made them work, got them out of the game early. Usually, when you do that, good things happen. So it starts with kind of not taking a while to get into the flow of the game.' The Blue Jays had 39 hard-hit balls across the two outings, but the key to the offence was swing decisions. The Athletics threw 336 pitches in the first two games, and Toronto's batters chased on just 22 of them, resulting in 16 walks. The Blue Jays entered the series against the Athletics with the eighth-highest chase rate in baseball, 28.9 percent. In two games against the A's, it was just 18 percent, which would be the lowest in MLB by 7 percentage points. Advertisement 'I think they're just putting together really good at-bats,' starter Chris Bassitt said. 'Drawing walks and just kind of like passing that baton.' It's easier to take walks against Jeffrey Springs than Jacob deGrom, but that kind of complete offensive performance hasn't been a given for Toronto against weaker opponents this year. This is the same Jays team that got shut out by a Rangers bullpen game earlier this week. A similar lineup to the one that tallied one score against the Houston Astros' Ryan Gusto in April and couldn't push a run across against New York Yankees vet Carlos Carrasco, who has since been designated for assignment. As Kevin Gausman noted last week, the Blue Jays have played to the level of their opponents at times this year, good and bad. Against the Athletics' suspect pitching, the Blue Jays separated themselves. We've seen blips like this before. Toronto's bats got hot at the Seattle Mariners and beat down a scuffling San Diego Padres team earlier this month. It's not about sustaining an 11.5 run-per-game pace, it's proving they can take advantage of scuffling pitching. In the first two games against the Athletics, Toronto did just that. Remarkable Jayden Daniels' statistic puts him in class by himself

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels made a lot of history in 2024. It seemed like Daniels was breaking another league record or franchise record every week. Daniels' success wasn't only in his stats. He led the Commanders to their best season in 33 years, including a surprising trip to the NFC championship game. But those stats were pretty impressive. Advertisement When fans and analysts talk about stats, you often hear about touchdowns, total yards, completion percentage, or some version of analytics. However, sometimes the simple statistics can be the most impressive. Sometimes, it's even the ones you didn't even know were a stat. There was one stretch last season when longtime punter Tress Way did not punt once — in multiple games. That's how good Washington's offense was, specifically Daniels. CBS Sports pointed out a statistic that not only puts Daniels in elite company, but also in a class by himself. Yes, you read that correctly. In 20 career starts, Daniels had three games where his team did not punt or turn the ball over. Four of the most legendary quarterback names ever — Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Patrick Mahomes — have combined for two such games in 993 career starts. Advertisement That's a remarkable statistic. Daniels was terrific all season, but seemed to get even better late in the season when Washington made its playoff push. As good as Daniels was as a passer, he also led the Commanders in rushing. It's too soon to mention Daniels in the same company as the above quarterbacks, but he's off to a great start and spent the offseason ensuring there will be no sophomore slump. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels set a record last season that may never be broken.

Google Confirms New Gmail AI Update — What It Means To Your Privacy

Google is rightly proud of the fact that Gmail remains the most popular email platform worldwide, with nearly 2 billion users. To maintain this position, Gmail needs to evolve, and Google has been ensuring that it doesn't get left behind as AI makes its mark on email, just as it is doing in most other areas. We've seen AI-powered search for Gmail introduced, and I praised the security implications at the time. When Google introduced summary cards to Gmail, I inquired about potential security risks. I was assured that the feature was protected by the same AI-powered defenses safeguarding the rest of Gmail. Now, Google has just dropped a surprise Gmail update for Workspace users that brings AI-thread summaries on Android and iOS, automatically, to any email content where Gemini thinks they will be useful. I have no security concerns regarding this update; however, there are privacy questions that need to be addressed. So, let's dive in. It has been almost a year now since, on June 24, 2024, Google announced it was rolling out the Gemini AI side panel for Gmail Workspace users. This enabled users, on the web, to summarize long email threads and get help with both drafting and replying to emails. For smartphone users, however, the process was a little convoluted and involved tapping an option to open Gemini, which would then show an email thread summary. All somewhat disjointed and far from what you might expect from an AI-powered user interface experience. That has now changed. In a May 29 posting to the Google Workspace Updates blog, it was confirmed that, with immediate effect, AI summaries would be available at the top of the email content for messages where a summary is helpful. 'Gemini will synthesize all the key points from the email thread,' Google said, 'and any replies thereafter will also be a part of the synopsis, keeping all summaries up to date.' Perhaps unsurprisingly, my email inbox has been filling up with people asking about the privacy implications of this new feature. Consumers need not be concerned as this update is for Google Workspace users only, including business, enterprise, Google One AI Premium and those with the Gemini Education add-on. Gemini Privacy Table Google Google has emphasised that, alongside all other AI-driven features, Gmail is 'committed to protecting user data and prioritizing privacy.' As such, Google said, 'your existing Google Workspace protections are automatically applied.' Gemini employs the same levels of security as the rest of Google Workspace, in other words. Interactions with Gemini stay within the organization, Google stated, adding that it does not share content outside of the organization without express permission. Finally, admins can disable the default setting for users in the admin console, while end users must have both smart features and personalization enabled in Gmail for the feature to function.
