Mykhaylo Mudryk: Chelsea winger could face four-year ban after being charged over alleged doping
Chelsea player Mykhaylo Mudryk is facing a potential ban of up to four years after being charged by the Football Association (FA) with doping offences.
The Ukraine international was provisionally suspended in December after , reportedly for the banned substance meldonium.
At the time, the 24-year-old said the result came as "a complete shock" and stated he had "not done anything wrong".
Chelsea added that he had "never knowingly used any banned substances".
On Wednesday, Mudryk's spokesperson said the player's position remains unchanged and he would not be commenting further.
The FA released a statement describing details of the charge: "We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of regulations three and four of the FA's anti-doping regulations."
The positive result occurred shortly after the winger returned from international duty with Ukraine in November.
After being absent from for four games, before his suspension was made public, the club's manager Enzo Maresca initially said Mudryk was unavailable through illness.
He last played in the Premier League on 10 November as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal.
Since his £88m move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, Mudryk has scored just 10 goals in 73 appearances in all competitions and has rarely held down a regular place in the team.

Since Maresca took over at Chelsea in July 2024, most of Mudryk's games have come in the cup competitions and in Europe, with just a single Premier League start in August's 6-2 win over Wolves.
Earlier this month Mudryk's number 10 shirt was allocated to midfielder Cole Palmer for next season, leaving him without a squad number at Stamford Bridge.
Mudryk has made no public comment on the case since a statement on Instagram in December in which he denied wrongdoing.
The player also said that he remained "hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon."
Chelsea declined to comment.

Donnarumma warns PSG 'hungry' for more success at Club World Cup
Paris Saint-Germain's Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma training at the University of California on Wednesday. He says the European champions are hungry for more success at the Club World Cup (YURI CORTEZ) Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma warned Wednesday that the newly crowned European champions were "hungry" for more success at the Club World Cup as they prepared to face Brazil's Botafogo. The French giants launched their Group B campaign in impressive style on Sunday, sweeping aside Atletico Madrid 4-0 at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Advertisement The victory marked a seamless entrance to the tournament for PSG, a little over two weeks after their 5-0 drubbing of Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final. Italy's Donnarumma said the team were intently focused on winning a fifth piece of silverware this season after starting the tournament "the same way we finished" the Champions League. "The Club World Cup is a very important competition for us, we must continue to remain 100 percent focused to reach the final and the trophy," the goalkeeper told reporters ahead of Thursday's clash with Botafogo at the Rose Bowl. "Everyone is hungry for victories, to win titles; it's important for now and for next year," he added after training at the University of California. Advertisement Spanish midfielder Fabian Ruiz said that PSG were comfortable with being tournament favourites. "It's positive if everyone is talking about us, isn't it?" he said. "For our game, what we're doing. But we don't feel that pressure, we don't think about that, but rather about the next match." PSG's opponents Botafogo reached the Club World Cup by winning the Copa Libertadores for the first time in 2024. The Brazilian side opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday. PSG's Portugal international striker Goncalo Ramos said Botafogo were an unknown quantity. Advertisement "I know them a little, I know the coach, but I don't watch many of their matches because they play late. But they're a good team, it's different for us to play against a team from Brazil," Ramos said. After Thursday's game at the Rose Bowl, PSG will travel north to Seattle for their final group match against the Sounders on Monday. bap/gmo/rcw/dh

Browns rookie QB Shedeur Sanders ticketed after police say he drove 101 mph in Cleveland suburb
Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is accused of driving a pickup truck 101 mph (163 kilometers per hour) on a suburban Cleveland interstate earlier this week. The Strongsville Police Department stopped Sanders at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in a 60 mph (97 kilometers per hour) zone on Interstate 71 near the Ohio Turnpike, according to a report provided to local media. Sanders, 23, could pay a $250 fine to waive the fourth-degree misdemeanor case, according to police. CNN has reached out to the Browns for comment. Sanders, the son of Hall of Fame player Deion Sanders, was drafted in the fifth round (144th overall) of the NFL draft this spring, even though many projections had him going in the first round. He played under his father at the University of Colorado. Sanders is competing against three other quarterbacks with the Browns. They wrapped up minicamp last week and will open training camp in late July.
