2025 NBA Draft: Nets might have trade partner in 76ers

2025 NBA Draft: Nets might have trade partner in 76ers

Yahoo7 days ago

The Brooklyn Nets have five picks in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft, including their own first-round pick at No. 8 following the events of Monday's NBA Draft Lottery. With the report that Brooklyn is regarded as one of the teams looking to trade up in the Draft, they may have a trade partner that is able to give them the pick they would likely desire to move to.
"It's expected that the Sixers will listen to offers for No. 3, but it's unclear whom the team would take if it stays," The Athletic's Sam Vecenie wrote. Daryl Morey, president of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, said after the Lottery that the team is more likely to use the pick than they are to trade it away given that the team could use some young talent.

"Rutgers' (Ace) Bailey has been seen as the biggest upside swing, and he fills a theoretical position of need for Philly as a big wing," Vecenie continued. "But he is also viewed as more of a project by scouts and executives, and this is a Sixers front office that likely needs to win next year to keep its jobs."
As of this writing, it's safe to say that the first two picks of the upcoming Draft will be Duke forward Cooper Flagg and Rutgers guard Dylan Harper. Flagg and Harper would be going to the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs, respectively, leaving the 76ers with their choice of Bailey, Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe, and Texas guard Tre Johnson.
The Nets are in a considerably different position as they are coming off a 2024-25 season in which they finished with a 26-56 record. The 76ers finished the campaign 24-58, but they still have stars like Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey as they are trying to maximize the championship window that their veterans afford them.
Brooklyn could be looking to trade up so that they can get a player more likely to make an impact on the franchise moving forward, especially with players like Bailey and Edgecombe potentially on the board with the third overall pick. The Nets may not be able to pull off trades with the Mavericks or the Spurs, but it seems like Philadelphia could be willing to move off of their draft pick.

Giannis Antetokounmpo next team odds: Knicks, Spurs rumored trade targets for Bucks star

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the biggest domino that could fall this NBA offseason. The Bucks' star has already been the subject of trade rumors despite the NBA Finals not yet starting. DraftKings' oddsmakers have a new betting market up with money already flowing in on a potential trade, although the two-time MVP is still expected to start the season in Milwaukee (-140 odds, 58.33 percent implied). The Spurs are the most likely team to acquire the Greek Freak, with +380 odds (20.83 percent implied likelihood). A duo of Antetokounmpo and Victor Wembanyama would be scary and form perhaps the best defensive big man pairing in league history. Antetokounmpo is a former Defensive Player of the Year, while Wembanyama was a massive favorite to win the award last year before being shut down due to a blood clot issue. There surely will be a massive market for Antetokounmpo if the Bucks opt to field offers for him. The Spurs are followed by the Rockets (+450), Raptors (+800), Mavericks (12/1) and Thunder (13/1). The Knicks, whom some fans had hoped would be in the market, are thought of as long shots to acquire him, coming in at 16/1 odds. Giannis Antetokounmpo is a perennial MVP and Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Getty Images Betting on the NBA? The Post's Brian Lewis reported that the Nets were hoarding draft capital with Antetokounmpo in mind, but DraftKings views that as a 20/1 long shot. The NBA hot stove will really tip off when the NBA Finals complete and the new league year officially begins July 1.

Breaking down the wildest Boston Celtics trade rumors

Breaking down the wildest Boston Celtics trade rumors Boston Celtics fans are preparing themselves for what could be a busy summer. Since Joe Mazzulla's team was eliminated from the 2025 NBA playoffs at the hands of the New York Knicks, trade rumors linking multiple members of the roster have begun to swirl. Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis appear to be the most likely to head for the exit door. However, as it does every summer, the rumor mill is slowly churning toward full gear. And with each passing day, new (and often more extravagant) trade proposals are making their way into the ether. Suddenly, Jaylen Brown is back in the rumor mill, as is every member of the championship-winning team outside of Jayson Tatum. During a recent episode of NESN's "Hold My Banner" podcast, Travis Thomas and Ountae Campbell dove into some of the more extreme trade proposals that have been released in recent weeks. The duo broke down the potential impact of each trade idea and the validity of whether it would work or if they even made sense. Jayson Tatum may need to evolve when he returns for the Boston Celtics

Jayson Tatum may need to evolve when he returns for the Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum is set to miss the entirety of the Boston Celtics' 2025-26 NBA season due to the Achilles tendon injury he suffered against the New York Knicks in the second round of the playoffs. Given the nature of an Achilles tear, there's no telling what type of player Tatum will be once he returns to the court. However, Celtics fans should be encouraged that both Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson have bounced back from a similar injury. Nevertheless, Tatum may need to adapt his game once he's cleared to play. The most important thing will be ensuring he remains healthy and has the time needed to ramp back up toward the All-NBA level he was at before his injury. During a recent episode of "The Big Three" podcast, Gary Washburn noted that Tatum may need to evolve his game once he's back on the court. Washburn is undoubtedly thinking of the way an Achilles injury can alter a player's skill set, from limiting their explosiveness to hindering their lateral and vertical quickness. Still, if Tatum approaches things with an open mind, he could re-establish himself as a top-10 player in the NBA.
