Two suspects have been arrested and two more are being sought in connection with a jewelry store robbery in Richmond Hill and home invasions in Markham and Hamilton.
York Regional Police said officers got a call for a robbery at Hillcrest Mall near Yonge Street and Carrville Road on Monday evening.
Three suspects entered a jewelry store and allegedly discharged an aerosol irritant at employees. Police said the suspects proceeded to smash display cases, fleeing with an unknown quantity of jewelry.
The three suspects fled in a white sedan driven by a fourth suspect, police said.
Investigators have since determined the suspects are linked to a Saturday home invasion in Markham and a similar one in Hamilton on Monday.
As a result of their investigation, two suspects were arrested on Thursday. Police identified one of them as 19-year-old Aaron Sims of Ajax. The other suspect is a 16-year-old boy and cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
They are both facing 13 charges, including three counts of robbery with an offensive weapon, three counts of disguise with intent and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The charges have not been tested in court.
In addition, Simms has been charged with breach of probation, while the teen has been charged with failure to comply with a release order.
'At the time of this incident, Simms was on probation conditions related to previous, unrelated offences. The youth was on bail in connection with an unrelated incident,' police said.
Meanwhile, officers continue to look for two other suspects. Police said they do not have descriptions at this time.
Investigators said the suspects may be connected to additional robberies.
They are asking anyone with information to contact them at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 6630 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Man arrested in $6,500 theft, merchandise recovered

A man has been arrested after a theft worth more than $6,500 in Sarnia. On Saturday around 4:30 p.m., police were called to the incident at a Northgate store in the 500 block of Exmouth Street. Police were told the suspect was wearing a facemask and had stolen gift cards and medical supplies before driving away northbound on Colborne Road. The vehicle was quickly found and stopped on Indian Road. The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was arrested. A seizure resulted in a big quantity of razor blades, gift cards, gum, and other items. Police said electronic devices with the purpose of bypassing store security systems were also found. As the investigation continued, police learn the suspect was on release from similar crimes in Halton and Toronto. The release said the man was prohibited from going to specific retail stores and that was violated in the Sarnia incident. It was also discovered that a similar theft took place earlier in the day in Brights Grove, but it wasn't reported to police. A 41-year-old Richmond Hill man is facing charges for theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, disguise with intent, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order. 'We are increasingly seeing organized retail theft targeting our local businesses,' said Chief Derek Davis of the Sarnia Police Service. 'These individuals often target specific items that are in turn re-sold through unscrupulous businesses or on the street. Immediate reporting, coupled with a quick and coordinated response by SPS patrol officers resulted in an arrest and the recovery of the stolen property.'

‘Unusual for him not to return home': Hamilton police continue to search for 62-year-old man missing since Wednesday

John Edwards, 62, has been missing since June 11, 2025. (Hamilton Police Service) Hamilton police continue to search for a 62-year-old man who has been missing since Wednesday. Police say John Edward was last seen on June 11 just before 10 a.m., walking westbound on Baldwin Street from a McDonald's restaurant. 'This was confirmed by surveillance video,' police said. He was reported missing when he did not return to St. Joseph's Villa. Edwards is described as a white male, five-foot-11, weighing over 200 pounds, with a medium to heavy build, shoulder-length brown hair, and light-coloured eyes. Police say he was possibly wearing baggy shorts, a striped blue t-shirt, white socks, running shoes and a baseball-style hat. 'John is known to enjoy walks through local trails and parks in Dundas and is familiar with the area. It is unusual for him not to return home, and there is growing concern for his well-being,' police said in a news release. Police are urging residents and business owners in the area where he was last seen to check their properties, outbuildings and security cameras. Anyone with information about John's whereabouts is urged to contact the Division 30 Staff Sergeant at 905-546-3886.
