Top 5 Bollywood Openers of 2025 So Far: Chhaava tops; Where will Housefull 5 land?

Housefull 5 led by Akshay Kumar is all set for a grand theatrical release. The film's advance bookings are almost about to end as we are less than an hour away from the film's release. The bookings of Housefull 5 point towards an opening in the vicinity of Rs 20 crore net and that would make the comic-caper the year's 3rd biggest Bollywood opener, only behind Chhaava and Sikandar. Chhaava opened to Rs 28.50 crore net and went on to do all time blockbuster level business across India. Sikandar, the Salman Khan star-vehicle opened with roughly Rs 25 crore net. The film was panned by fans and critics and it ended up sealing a sorry fate. Housefull 5 should have targeted an opening above that of Sikandar but that shall not happen owing to slower than expected advance bookings. Had the bookings been on par with the previous Housefull film that released in pre-Diwali, it would still have opened to a number above Rs 25 crore and closer to Rs 30 crore. Moving on, Raid 2 currently is the year's 3rd biggest opener with day 1 collections of around Rs 19 crore net. The movie emerged a bonafied hit at the box office despite competition from Retro, Hit 3 and Tourist Family. Sky Force and Jaat have currently occupied the 4th and 5th place in the list of top Bollywood openers of 2025 but that shall change tomorrow. Here Are The Top 5 Biggest Bollywood Openers Of 2025 So Far 1. Chhaava - Rs 29.50cr 2. Sikandar - Rs 25cr 3. Raid 2 - Rs 19cr 4. Sky Force - Rs 13.75cr 5. Jaat - Rs 9cr All eyes are on the film's word of mouth. If the word of mouth among the target audience is good, it will play well in theatres for the next few weeks and cross the Rs 200 crore net mark atleast. If the word of mouth is unfavourable, it will result in lesser than expected growth over the Eid weekend and then the numbers will come tumbling down in the weekdays. The family audience continues to remain vital for the success of Housefull 5. The industry is observing and monitoring the reception of Housefull 5 very closely. It will give the producers the courage to produce more ensemble comedies of the slapstick nature. Housefull 5 plays in theatres in just a few hours. Have you booked your tickets for the movie yet?

Pankaj Tripathi, Aditi Rao Hydari to star in family drama 'Parivarik ManuRanjan'; Shoot begins

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 5 (ANI): Actors Pankaj Tripathi and Aditi Rao Hydari are set to share the screen for the first time as they begin the shooting for their movie 'Parivarik ManuRanjan' in Lucknow on Thursday. Apart from the first-ever collaboration between the duo, the film also marks the beginning of the strategic partnership between Bhanushali Studios Limited and AAZ Films. Vinod Bhanushali and Himanshu Mehra are producing the movie, which is creatively produced by Ali Abbas Zafar. The film is directed by Varun V. Sharma and written by Brijendra Kala and Varun Sharma. Taking to his Instagram, the actor Pankaj Tripathi announced the beginning of the 'Parivarik ManuRanjan' shoot by sharing adorable photos with Aditi Rao Hydari and the film's crew. In the press note shared by the makers of the movie, Pankaj Tripathi opened up about his collaboration with Aditi Rao Hydari. He said, 'There was something so charmingly simple and yet irresistibly funny about the script that I couldn't say no. It's the kind of story that sneaks up on you with its warmth. This is my first time working with Aditi, and I've always admired her craft towards acting. Also excited to creatively partner with Varun Sharma and Ali Abbas Zafar and Producers Vinod Bhanushali and Himanshu Mehra, who are backing a story like this' Aditi Rao Hydari said that working with Pankaj Tripathi is a 'learning experience' for her, as she believes that the actor is a true master of situational comedy. 'When I read the script, I smiled through it. For me, it's rare to come across a story in this universe. The situational comedy, the twists and the unexpected turns and more importantly, the warmth and simplicity that is the heart of the story. Getting to work with Pankaj sir is going to be a treat. He is a master of this genre, and for me this is going to be a big learning experience and a joy,' said Aditi Rao Hydari as quoted in a press note by the makers. Director Varun V. Sharma added that 'Parivarik ManuRanjan is a story that's close to my heart--rooted in the chaos and comedy of life. With Pankaj sir and Aditi coming together for the first time, we're excited to bring something refreshingly warm, honest, and hilariously relatable to the screen,' The release date of the movie has not been revealed yet by the makers. Hema Malini Almost Rejected Baghban, Said 'Itne Bade Ladkon Ke Maa Ka Role Kaun Karega?'

Last Updated: Besides Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, Baghban also starred Salman Khan and Mahima Chaudhry. Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini in the lead, Baghban remains one of the most popular movies to date. Released in 2003, the film revolves around a couple – Raj and Pooja – who sacrifice everything for their sons' happy lives. However, after Raj's retirement, he learns how his sons disrespect him and their mother. However, do you know that Hema Malini was sceptical about taking up this role? In an old interview with Lehren Retro, the veteran actress revealed that she was hesitant because she was not sure if she should play the role of four grown-up boys' mother on-screen. Hema Malini recalled an incident when director Ravi Chopra came to narrate the story at her home, where her mother was also present. 'I remember when I was hearing the story from Ravi Chopra, my mother was sitting. After he left, I told her, 'Char itne bade bade ladkon ke maa ka role karne ko bol raha hai… how can I do all this? (He's asking me to play the mother of four grown-up sons… how can I do all this?)' Then she turned around and said, 'No, no, you must do the film.' And I asked her why. She said, 'The story is very good, you must do it.' And she was really after me. So I was like, okay, I'll do it," Hema Malini said. 'Because first I felt that before this, I was not doing many films, so after a long gap I was working. So I felt, why should I do this? But she said, 'You must do this, this role will be very nice'," the actress added. Besides Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, Baghban also starred Salman Khan and Mahima Chaudhry. Earlier this year, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Ravi Chopra's wife, Renu Chopra, shed light on the challenges they encountered while making and distributing the film. Renu revealed that finding a distributor for Baghban was no easy feat, as most dismissed the project as 'old-fashioned." 'The film struggled during its first four days in theaters. Ravi even questioned why he made it. But everything changed on the following Tuesday, and the film picked up momentum," she recalled. One pivotal moment in the film's journey was Salman Khan's involvement. According to Renu, Baghban was already completed, except for a guest appearance role. 'No distributor wanted to touch the film. They thought it was outdated, especially since Amit ji was facing a rough patch in his career, having just made a comeback with Mohabbatein and Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). Then someone suggested approaching Salman Khan for the remaining part." First Published: June 05, 2025, 20:02 IST
