Iran's President Pezeshkian says Trump speaks of peace and threatens at same time
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Saturday that U.S. President Donald Trump speaks simultaneously about peace and threats.
"Which should we believe?" Pezeshkian said at a naval event in Tehran. "On the one hand, he speaks of peace and on the other, he threatens with the most advanced tools of mass killing."
Tehran would continue Iran-U.S. nuclear talks but is not afraid of threats. "We are not seeking war," he said.
Trump said on Friday that Iran had a U.S. proposal about its nuclear programme and knows it needs to move quickly to resolve a decades-long dispute.
"More importantly, they know they have to move quickly or something bad — something bad's going to happen," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One after departing the United Arab Emirates on Friday, according to an audio recording of the remarks.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in a post on X said Tehran had not received a U.S. proposal. "There is no scenario in which Iran abandons its hard-earned right to (uranium) enrichment for peaceful purposes..." he said.
Pezeshkian said Iran would not "back down from our legitimate rights".
"Because we refuse to bow to bullying, they say we are source of instability in the region," he said.
A fourth round of Iran-U.S. talks ended in Oman last Sunday. A new round has not been scheduled yet. REUTERS

Iran and Israel traded missiles and airstrikes on Saturday, the day after Israel launched an air offensive against its old enemy, killing commanders and scientists and bombing nuclear sites in a stated bid to stop it building an atomic weapon. "We are moving assets to the region, including jets, and that is for contingency support in the region," Starmer said. Britain already has fighter jets in the Middle East as part of an operation to counter threats in Iraq and Syria. Crews began deployment preparations on Friday morning, when it was clear the situation in the region was deteriorating, a spokesperson for the prime minister said. Further refuelling aircraft from British bases have been deployed, and additional fighter jets will be sent, the spokesperson added. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque/File Photo MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump for 50 minutes on Saturday, condemning the Israeli military operation against Iran and expressing concern about the risks of escalation, the Kremlin said. "Vladimir Putin condemned Israel's military operation against Iran and expressed serious concern about a possible escalation of the conflict, which would have unpredictable consequences for the entire situation in the Middle East," Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters. Trump, for his part, described events in the Middle East as "very alarming," according to Ushakov. But the two leaders said they do not rule out a return to the negotiating track on Iran's nuclear programme, Ushakov said. On Ukraine, Putin told the U.S. leader that Russia was ready to continue negotiations with the Ukrainians after June 22, according to state news agency RIA. Trump reiterated his interest in a speedy resolution to the conflict, the Kremlin aide said. Putin also congratulated Trump on his 79th birthday. Britain's Starmer: There will be a national inquiry into 'grooming gangs'
Britain's Starmer: There will be a national inquiry into 'grooming gangs' LONDON - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Saturday he would accept a recommendation for a national inquiry into grooming gangs who sexually abused thousands of girls, having previously resisted calls for a statutory review. Interior minister Yvette Cooper in January asked Louise Casey, a former senior official, to undertake a "rapid audit" of the current scale and nature of gang-based exploitation in Britain. "(Casey's) position when she started the audit was that there was not a real need for a national inquiry, over and above what was going on," Starmer told reporters on Saturday. "She has looked at the material she has looked at and she has come to the view that there should be a national inquiry on the basis of what she has seen. "I have read every single word of her report and I am going to accept her recommendation." The child sexual abuse scandal, which revealed how gangs of mostly Pakistani men had groomed, trafficked and raped young white girls more than a decade ago, returned to the political agenda this year after U.S. billionaire Elon Musk criticised the British government.
