Ministry of Health and Prevention celebrates World Health Day

DUBAI (WAM)The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has joined the global community in commemorating World Health Day 2025, reaffirming its commitment to improving maternal and newborn health as part of its national healthcare strategy.The Ministry stressed that commemorating this occasion is part of its ongoing efforts to develop a sustainable and inclusive health system and enhance the quality of life across all segments of society.Announced by the World Health Organisation, this year's theme, 'Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures', is meant to highlight the importance of strengthening healthcare systems for women and children—particularly during pregnancy, childbirth, and early life.Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, emphasised that the Ministry of Health and Prevention is committed to adopting the highest international standards in maternal and neonatal healthcare by utilising advanced capabilities in line with guidelines from the World Health Organisation and UNICEF.These efforts, Al Rand noted, contribute directly to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and align with the UAE Centennial 2071, ensuring future generations are equipped with the highest standards of health and readiness to support a sustainable, knowledge-driven nation.He added, 'Thanks to the directives of our wise leadership, the UAE government has made the health of mothers and children a top priority, embedding it at the core of its development policies.
The UAE firmly believes that investing in their well-being is an investment in the nation's future. Consequently, the ministry is leading national efforts to promote the public health of mothers and newborns, ensuring access to preventive and integrated care through close collaboration with our strategic partners across the country.

At Majra, we are pleased to play a key role in this effort by fostering collaboration and building strong partnerships with the private sector."The launch of the first edition of the Sustainable Impact Challenge, which will be held annually, reflects our mission to instil corporate CSR values and nurture a culture of sustainable development. Through this initiative, we aim to support impactful private sector projects that align with the national agenda, contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and promote responsible business practices. This is in line with our broader commitment to shaping a more resilient and sustainable future in accordance with the 'We the UAE 2031' vision.'The Sustainable Impact Challenge is a national platform designed to identify and celebrate outstanding CSR initiatives led by private sector companies, third-sector organisations, universities, and other institutions. It reflects Majra's firm dedication to empowering these vital contributors and directing their efforts toward sustainable recognising impactful initiatives, the Challenge further supports the UAE's broader national drive to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promotes the adoption of CSR and sustainability practices across all major her speech, Hessa Buhumaid affirmed the pivotal role played by Majra through the launching of such CSR initiatives and the identification of effective private sector leadership that would enhance social impact. She highlighted the importance of this Challenge as the first initiative showcasing projects with significant environmental, economic, and social impact in conjunction with the prestigious 'Year of Community' Minister praised the efforts of the third sector in providing valuable contributions and actively tackling social, environmental, and economic top three winners included HeroGo, for its project 'Empowering the GCC to access better quality and more affordable groceries while eliminating food waste'; Thiqa Education's '1 Dirham makes an impact' initiative; and Distant Imagery Solutions' 'Rooted in Innovation UAE Engineered Drones Transform Mangrove Restoration' the winners were awarded a total cash prize of Dh600,000 in recognition of their exceptional contributions to sustainable development in the other shortlisted sustainability initiatives were acknowledged for their outstanding efforts and given the opportunity to showcase their project outcomes. A key session at the event featured Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Vice Chairman of Majra's Board of Trustees, along with undersecretaries from five ministries to discuss the main challenges that hinder the advancement of social responsibility in the issues highlighted included the lack of opportunities that encourage private sector involvement, ongoing environmental hurdles and ways to find adequate solutions, and the need for stronger regulatory frameworks that require organisations to implement CSR key session titled, 'The Role of Public, Private and Third Sector in Developing an Impact Economy,' explored the importance of cross-sector collaboration in building a sustainable economy. The panel featured thought leaders including Dr. Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson and Co-Founder, Emirates Environmental Group, Chandran Nair, Founder and CEO, Global Institute For Tomorrow (GIFT) and Maysa Al Nowais, Executive Director – Community Engagement and Volunteering, Social Contributions Authority – Ma'an. The session was moderated by Mohammed Hanif Al event also hosted the inaugural meeting of the Fashion Sustainability Taskforce, held in the presence of Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri. MoHAP launches 'Hajj Safely' to support pilgrims at UAE's airports
3 June 2025 22:04 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has launched the 'Hajj Safely' campaign to support pilgrims travelling to perform Hajj from the UAE's airports. In a post on its official X account, the ministry said: "For a safe and healthy Hajj', we have provided support at the country's airports to pilgrims before the start of their journey, offering health and safety guidelines and conducting medical examinations. We wish all pilgrims an easy and safe journey, beginning with prevention and ending with health and wellbeing." The ministry offered health and safety guidelines to educate the pilgrims before travelling and administered the necessary medical examinations. UAE Launches Initiative with WHO to Combat Malnutrition in Socotra Island
The United Arab Emirates, in partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO), has launched a humanitarian initiative to combat rising malnutrition rates among women and children on Yemen's Socotra Island. The effort, led by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works, targets one of the region's most pressing health challenges. Recent data shows the Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) rate among children under five on the island has reached 10.9%, with the Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) rate at 1.6%—figures that cross internationally recognised critical thresholds. Mohamed Haji Al Khouri, Director-General of the Foundation, said the initiative reflects the UAE's enduring commitment to humanitarian support and global health development. He emphasised the project's roots in the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the current leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Foundation, an affiliate of Erth Zayed Philanthropies, will work closely with WHO to develop evidence-based solutions to tackle nutrition-related health issues. The two-year plan includes reducing maternal and child mortality, enhancing emergency preparedness, and strengthening local healthcare systems. Dr. Ferima Coulibaly-Zerbo, Acting WHO Representative in Yemen, highlighted the importance of the partnership in addressing urgent needs and building long-term health resilience in the region. The initiative also aims to improve food security, raise awareness on nutrition and hygiene, train medical personnel, and boost disease surveillance.
