Playboy Mansion's stunning refresh revealed following a 5-year renovation by billionaire owner

New York Post20-05-2025

Billionaire Daren Metropoulos's $10 million renovation of the iconic Playboy Mansion has paid off.
Metropoulos, who purchased the Los Angeles property from Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in 2016, spent the last five years overhauling the sprawling Holmby Hills property. New photos published by the Daily Mail reveal the Gothic Tudor mansion on the verge of a renaissance.
Metropoulos, the son of billionaire investor Dean Metropoulos, made his fortune following his father's footsteps as the head of companies like the Hostess Brand and the Pabst Brewing Company. Metropoulos previously lived alongside the Playboy Mansion on a neighboring estate.

Metropoulos purchased the 29-room home for $100 million in 2016, but allowed the ailing Hefner to live at the mansion until his death from sepsis in 2017.
The property underwent five years of renovations, led by architect to the stars and 'King of the Megamansion' Richard Landry.
The fruits of Metropoulos's labors are evident in new photos of the nearly 100-year-old estate.

Scaffolding that once spanned the exterior of the 22,000-square-foot main house is long gone. New skylights complement the new roof, under which the rear terrace has been extended and a large solarium was constructed.
The fresh green lawn and new landscaping give the aged mansion a fresh look. Metropoulos also added a brand new tennis court.
The infamous grotto — the artificial cave in which about 200 guests contracted Legionnaire's disease from the bacteria-infested whirlpool — also received a much-needed overhaul, the Daily Mail reported. The nearby freeform pool, too, boasts new stonework.

Metropoulos tackled the mansion's outbuildings, too. Previous reports detailed the billionaire's intention to partially demolish the 650-square-foot staff house and create a 4,400-square-foot gym and garage in its place, as well as plans to construct a 1,200-square-foot guest house.
The Daily Mail cited building permits with plans to remodel the kitchen and various bathrooms. Reports swirled of dilapidated conditions inside the mansion towards the end of Hefner's life.
Metropoulos, who sold Hostess to the jam company Smuckers for approximately $5.6 billion in 2023, previously hinted at plans to one day combine the famous mansion with his own neighboring estate.

Disney, Universal sue AI firm for copyright infringement: ‘Bottomless pit of plagiarism'

Disney and Universal have filed a copyright lawsuit against popular artificial intelligence image-generator Midjourney on Wednesday, marking the first time major Hollywood companies have enter the legal battle over generative AI. Filed in federal district court in Los Angeles, the complaint claims Midjourney pirated the libraries of the two Hollywood studios to generate and distribute 'endless unauthorized copies' of their famed characters, such as Darth Vader from Star Wars and the Minions from Despicable Me. 'Midjourney is the quintessential copyright free-rider and a bottomless pit of plagiarism. Piracy is piracy, and whether an infringing image or video is made with AI or another technology does not make it any less infringing,' the companies state in the complaint. Advertisement Midjourney didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday. In a 2022 interview with The Associated Press, Midjourney CEO David Holz described his image-making service as 'kind of like a search engine' pulling in a wide swath of images from across the internet. He compared copyright concerns about the technology with how such laws have adapted to human creativity. 4 Midjourney CEO David Holz said in 2022 that his image-making service is 'kind of like a search engine.' prima91 – 4 The studios claimed the San Francisco-based AI company ignored their requests to stop infringing on their copyrighted works. jixiang – Advertisement 'Can a person look at somebody else's picture and learn from it and make a similar picture?' Holz said. 'Obviously, it's allowed for people and if it wasn't, then it would destroy the whole professional art industry, probably the nonprofessional industry too. To the extent that AIs are learning like people, it's sort of the same thing and if the images come out differently then it seems like it's fine.' Major AI developers don't typically disclose their data sources but have argued that taking troves of publicly accessible online text, images and other media to train their AI systems is protected by the 'fair use' doctrine of American copyright law. The studio' case joins a growing number of lawsuits filed against developers of AI platforms — such as OpenAI, Anthropic — in San Francisco and New York. Meanwhile, the first major copyright trial of the generative AI industry is underway in London, pitting Getty Images against artificial intelligence company Stability AI.

The one thing Aaron Rodgers ‘can't stand' about his Steelers start

It's been an offseason of change for Aaron Rodgers. From signing with the Steelers to revealing his marriage in a minicamp bombshell, the 41-year-old quarterback is adapting to the new — even if he isn't thrilled about every aspect of it. 'I can't stand the [new] helmet,' Rodgers said Tuesday. 'I've worn a Schutt for 20 years and somehow it finally didn't pass the safety standards.' 3 Aaron Rodgers sporting a helmet that he's not used to. Getty Images Rodgers, in his first minicamp appearance with the Steelers, appeared to wear the Schutt F7 Pro model Tuesday, according to USA Today. The four-time league MVP previously wore the Schutt Air XP Pro Q11 LTD, a model 'not recommended' by the league last season because of its safety standards and recommendations. For the 2025-26 season, though, the league has moved Rodgers' beloved helmet into the 'newly prohibited' section of the helmet list. 3 Aaron Rodgers at Steelers mincamp. Getty Images 'The NFL and NFLPA, through their respective appointed biomechanical experts and the joint engineering and equipment safety committee, annually coordinate extensive laboratory research to evaluate which helmets best reduce head impact severity,' the NFL's statement regarding helmet testing reads. 'The results of those tests, which are generally supported by on-field performance, are set forth on this poster.' Rodgers signed a one-year, $13.65 million deal with the Steelers last week ahead of mandatory minicamp. 3 Aaron Rodgers wearing his older, preferred model of helmet. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST His arrival in Pittsburgh continues to make headlines as it was revealed during a media session Tuesday that he has been married for 'a couple of months.' His spouse has not yet been revealed. Now, he's in the process of finding the perfect fit for his first season in black and gold. Rodgers spent the past two years with the Jets.
