Andrew Scott opens up about medical emergency during 2020 SAG awards at this year's ceremony
Andrew Scott has shared a shocking revelation about his past SAG Awards experience, recalling how he was rushed out of the 2020 ceremony in an ambulance after suffering from a kidney stone.
The 48-year-old Ripley star, attending the 2025 SAG Awards in Los Angeles on 23 February, reflected on the unforgettable moment. Speaking to Variety, he revealed that during the 2020 awards, while standing beside Phoebe Waller-Bridge, he suddenly experienced excruciating pain.
'I was beside Phoebe and Laura Dern had just won best supporting actress. We were standing up,' Scott explained. 'I don't know if anyone has ever experienced having a kidney stone before, but it sends you — the pain is so immediate.'
Scott, who had suffered from kidney stones before, immediately recognised the symptoms. As Waller-Bridge brought him water and Dern concluded her speech, he realised he needed medical attention. Within moments, he was rushed to hospital.
'I was in the back [of the room]… writhing around in agony,' he recalled. Despite the dramatic turn of events, Scott managed to keep the incident private. He declined to disclose further details, joking, 'That's too much. People don't need to know about that. It was grisly.'
At this year's SAG Awards, Scott was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for Ripley. Though he didn't win, his performance in the black-and-white thriller, based on The Talented Mr. Ripley, has received high praise.
Scott previously shared that portraying Tom Ripley was mentally and physically demanding. 'I found it mentally and physically really hard. That's just the truth of it,' he said in 2023. Despite the challenges, he embraced the role, determined to bring a fresh take to the iconic character.

'Carrie' going from page to Prime
Great news for horror lovers: Amazon has officially announced that it will be producing a series based on Carrie, one of Stephen King's most iconic and widely acclaimed novels, originally published in 1974. As reported by Variety, the show is described as a "bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Howell), who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father's sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public high school, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers." Cast and crew The upcoming series will be directed by acclaimed horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan, known for his work on projects such as The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. Flanagan will also serve as executive producer, showrunner, and writer, alongside Trevor Macy as executive producer. The show, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime, adding to the platform's growing list of original horror content. In April, in an interview with Variety, Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, said: "Carrie is an iconic story that has withstood the test of time with continued cultural relevance. With Mike Flanagan at the helm and the accomplished team assembled, including executive producer Trevor Macy, this provocative series is sure to captivate our global customers." Netflix announces Nobody Wants This season 2 release date with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody
Netflix has officially announced that Season 2 of its hit romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This will premiere globally on October 23, 2025.
