KUWAIT CITY, May 17: Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Kuwait Park Chung-suk has affirmed his satisfaction over the inauguration of the Korea Health and Beauty Festival in Kuwait through the concerted efforts of the embassy, Korea Tourism Organization and Korea Trade Promotion Corporation (KOTRA). Speaking at the event, Park underscored the significance of the event in bolstering bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of health and medical tourism. He stated, 'it is with great pleasure that we extend to the Kuwaiti people a comprehensive South Korean experience that reflects substantial progress in the domains of cosmetic medicine, sophisticated healthcare and medical tourism, alongside the rich cultural heritage that imparts a distinctive character of South Korean health and beauty services.'
He said the festival, held on May 16-17 at The Avenues Mall, is considered a commercial landmark in Kuwait; including interactive and experiential activities like health consultations, AI-driven skin diagnostics, live cosmetic demonstrations, massage sessions, displays of the 'hanbok' -- a traditional attire, handicrafts, musical performances featuring K-pop and the renowned Korean show 'Nanta'. He pointed out that the event transcended service introductions, as it is a platform for connecting leading South Korean enterprises in the health and beauty sector with their Kuwaiti counterparts. This was made possible through the 'Korean Medical Tourism Evening' held on May 15 at the Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel and Resort, with more than 100 participants, including officials, experts, and representatives from the health and travel industries.
The evening featured presentations by prominent South Korean hospitals, live consultation sessions, and a keynote address by a Kuwaiti influencer, sharing personal experiences in South Korea. Park added, 'The demand for medical and beauty travel to South Korea among Kuwaitis has been witnessing a remarkable growth -- 65 percent increase in 2024 compared to the preceding year. We are optimistic that this festival will contribute to the establishment of new avenues for collaborative engagement and enhance the image of South Korea as a preferred destination for those seeking quality and excellence in healthcare.' He affirmed that the South Korean culture has evolved beyond entertainment, serving as a conduit for intercultural connection through practical and humanitarian fields such as health. He said his nation remains committed to maintaining this productive collaboration with the State of Kuwait. Meanwhile, Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) Dr. Mohammad Al-Jassar has stressed the importance of cultural events in fostering rapprochement and mutual understanding. Al-Jassar commended the organization of the festival, the participation of South Korean and Kuwaiti artists, and the presence of distinguished cultural and artistic professionals

KUWAIT CITY, May 27: The second Kuwait Conference on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery marks a strategic milestone in reinforcing Kuwait's regional and international leadership in the field, said Dr. Mohammad Khalaf, Head of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department at Al-Babtain Burns and Plastic Surgery Center. In a press statement on Tuesday, Dr. Khalaf, who also serves as chairman of the conference, emphasized that the event reflects the Ministry of Health's commitment to advancing healthcare quality and fostering the development of national medical talent. The conference will commence on Thursday under the patronage of Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, and in collaboration with the Kuwait Surgeons Association. The gathering will feature international participation and focus on the latest advancements in plastic and reconstructive surgery. This year's event will also include the inaugural conferences of both the Facial Surgery Association and the Microscopic Surgery Association, a move that Dr. Khalaf said enhances scientific integration and broadens the scope of specialties represented. A key objective of the conference, he added, is to facilitate the exchange of expertise among leading surgeons from Kuwait and across the globe, with a particular focus on the treatment of congenital deformities and complex surgical cases—efforts that are expected to improve the quality of medical care. The scientific program will feature five specialized workshops covering areas such as maxillofacial surgery, microsurgical reconstruction, head and neck deformities, as well as breast and body reconstruction. Dr. Khalaf noted the participation of various medical specialties, including dermatology, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, urology, and anesthesia, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the conference. The event will include advanced scientific lectures delivered by experts from over 10 countries, live surgical demonstrations, and presentations of cutting-edge research. The speaker lineup includes 15 international experts, 19 speakers from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and 17 prominent local surgeons from Kuwait. Dr. Khalaf concluded by describing the conference as a vital platform for training the next generation of Kuwaiti surgeons and strengthening academic ties with leading global universities and medical centers, in alignment with Kuwait's national vision for the advancement of specialized medical education and training.

The event was attended by Kuwaiti Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi, Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen, Assistant Undersecretary for External Health Services Hisham Kelendar, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as well as representatives from member states and international health officials. Dr. Wang, Head of the Clinical Research Department and Director of the Dementia Care and Research Center in China, was recognized for her leading role in developing the country's national geriatric and Alzheimer's care plans. Her work has included the formation of 150 healthcare teams across 27 regions, implementation of early disease detection programs, and active involvement in health education and caregiver training in partnership with WHO. Simultaneously, WHO commended the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health's Geriatric Directorate for its remarkable efforts in elderly care, highlighting the creation of a national strategy for elderly care (2024–2030). The initiative has led to a 40% improvement in services provided to the senior population in Kuwait. Both recipients were selected following a thorough evaluation by an independent panel, according to WHO. The annual award, which honors outstanding contributions to the health and well-being of the elderly, was established by the State of Kuwait in 2004 in tribute to the humanitarian legacy of the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. In his address to the assembly, Minister Al-Awadhi emphasized that the award reflects Kuwait's commitment to humanitarian values and its dedication to improving the quality of life for the elderly. He affirmed that elderly care in Kuwait is not merely a duty but a cultural value deeply rooted in the nation's identity. Al-Awadhi also highlighted Kuwait's longstanding partnership with the WHO, dating back to 1960, and reaffirmed the country's ongoing support for global health initiatives. He praised WHO's leadership in addressing international health challenges and reiterated Kuwait's role as an active contributor to efforts that promote human dignity and well-being worldwide. The Sabah Al-Ahmad Global Award stands as one of the pioneering international health recognitions, aimed at supporting vulnerable populations and advancing healthcare systems for the elderly around the world.
