IGP turns RM5,000 court award from blogger Papagomo into welfare boost for cops
KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 — Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has donated RM5,000 to the Tabung Amanah Warisan Polis (TAWP), using funds awarded by the court in his committal proceedings against blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo.
In a statement, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) said a mock cheque for the amount was presented to Bukit Aman management director Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid, who is also a permanent member of TAWP, in a brief ceremony at the IGP's office here today.
This is Razarudin's second contribution to TAWP, following a RM10,000 donation made on February 24, bringing his total personal contribution to RM15,000.
'This contribution reflects my support for TAWP's welfare initiatives to assist police officers, personnel and their children in need.
'Funds like this are essential in easing the financial burden of those in need, especially within the police community,' Razarudin said in the statement.
On April 30, Papagomo issued an unconditional apology to Razarudin over defamatory statements made earlier this year.
Judicial Commissioner Gan Techiong, in delivering the ruling, said the apology read out in court must also be published on YouTube, TikTok, X, and Telegram for at least seven days.
The court also ordered Papagomo to pay RM5,000 in costs.
In February, the court granted Razarudin permission to initiate committal proceedings against Papagomo for allegedly breaching a court injunction dated January 10.
The injunction prohibited Papagomo or his representatives from publishing or disseminating any defamatory statements against Razarudin on social media, whether in his official capacity as IGP or his personal capacity.
This included statements made in writing, orally, through videos, or via online platforms and messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.
The court was originally scheduled to hear contempt of court proceedings initiated by Razarudin against the blogger, but both parties were advised to seek a resolution, which led to Wan Muhammad Azri's apology and subsequent purging of the contempt.
On December 26 last year, Razarudin filed a RM3 million lawsuit against Papagomo for alleged defamation, which also involved the name of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. — Bernama

JOHOR BARU, June 18 — Police are seeking the assistance of the National Registration Department (NRD) to locate the next-of-kin of teacher Lo Kwan Fong, whose decomposed body was discovered at her home in Skudai last Thursday. Iskandar Puteri police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said efforts are underway to identify and contact any of Lo's known family members to expedite the process of claiming her remains, currently held at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA). 'So far, the victim's remains are still at HSA, and no family members have come forward to claim them. 'There was a school that approached the authorities to claim the remains, but we did not release them. Priority is given to the next-of-kin first,' he told reporters when contacted today. Updating the media, Kumarasan said Lo was found dead in her Bandar Selesa Jaya home after being reported missing for about a month by her colleagues. Preliminary investigations revealed that Lo, who lived alone, rarely interacted with her neighbours. 'The condition of the victim's house indicated that she spent much of her time at home and seldom ventured out. 'Our investigations did not uncover any signs of foul play, and there were no criminal elements related to her death,' he said. The discovery followed reports of a foul smell emanating from her house, prompting a neighbour to alert the police. A post-mortem conducted by forensic experts at HSA determined that the cause of death was unascertainable due to the advanced state of decomposition. Lo, described as an only child, was believed to have been deceased for about a month. Both her parents had passed away several years ago.

Perak Minerals and Geoscience Dept rule out quarry blasting behind Ipoh tremors, explosive sounds
IPOH, June 18 — The Perak Department of Minerals and Geoscience Malaysia (JMG) has confirmed that the explosion sound and tremor reported around 10.30am today were not caused by quarry blasting, Bernama reported this afternoon. JMG director Nizarulikram Abdul Rahim said quarry blasting is only allowed from 12pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday. 'Checks by JMG Perak found that no quarry blasting took place at that time. Blasting activities outside the approved hours are not permitted,' he was quoted as saying. Earlier today, Ipoh District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said police were looking into public complaints about the explosion sound and tremor felt in Ipoh this morning. In a similar case on October 21 last year, a strong tremor was felt in several parts of the city — including Tasek, Perak Stadium, Meru, Falim, Manjoi, Chemor, and Sungai Siput — at about 11am, followed by a loud explosion. Last year's case remains unexplained by the authorities.

Singapore court jails tutor for molesting students, secretly filming 951 lewd videos in public and at home
SINGAPORE, June 18 — A private tutor was sentenced to four years and nine months in jail yesterday for committing obscene acts behind his female students, secretly filming them and engaging in lewd acts in public. Michael Martin Lee Teck Heng, 58, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including one count of committing an obscene act, one count of making obscene films, three counts of molest and one count of aggravated molest, according to CNA. Ten additional charges related to the same incidents were taken into consideration for sentencing. Deputy Public Prosecutor Daphne Lim said the accused was 'clearly one who has no qualms violating young women for his sexual perversion'. 'Further, the offences committed by the accused against his tutees are difficult to detect and were committed by the accused in his capacity as a tutor, and as someone in a position of authority over them. Both specific and general deterrence comes to the fore,' Lim said. His crimes were uncovered after he was caught engaging in indecent exposure in a public place. Lee gave one-on-one mathematics and science tuition to primary and secondary school students in his home. He disguised his actions by placing his hand on the back or shoulder of his students while committing the indecent acts. The victims were unaware of Lee's actions, but a 15-year-old girl sensed something was wrong and felt uneasy about his close proximity. She suspected the nature of his actions but hesitated to confront him, fearing she might be misinterpreting the situation due to her perception of him as religious. She also feared that, being alone with him, he might escalate his actions. The youngest victim, who was only 13 years old at the time he committed the offences, was unaware that he took videos of her. In May 2019, Lee started to take videos of himself committing sexual acts in public behind or at a distance from unsuspecting women. Lee was arrested on September 30, 2019, after a woman saw him exposing himself at a bus stop and alerted the police. Police officers checked his mobile phone and discovered videos of Lee committing sexual acts, leading to his arrest. During investigations, police officers raided his home and found at least 951 videos recorded by Lee, including 406 showing him exposing himself or making inappropriate physical contact with his students. An additional 545 videos depicted Lee engaging in lewd acts in public. Lim emphasised the need for public protection, highlighting the extensive number of incidents in which Lee had exposed himself in public while women were present. 'Taken together, the offences cumulatively show that the accused is a menace and a threat to the community. A lengthy sentence is called for to protect the community,' she added. Lee's defence lawyer Joyce Khoo argued in mitigation that he had been diagnosed with multiple mental illnesses since 1997 and was suffering from exhibitionistic disorder at the time of the offenses. She presented four medical reports from the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), dating back to 1997, to support her claim. Lee had been receiving treatment for adjustment disorder since 1997. The prosecutor, however, said that the disorder was a 'nothing more than a psychiatric label to describe a perverse behaviour'. The judge ruled that his condition did not impair his ability to exercise self-control and gave no mitigating weight to Lee's mental condition. The court found that Lee had abused the trust of his students, who were vulnerable victims.
