France urges Israel to show restraint in Lebanon after Beirut strike

France on Wednesday called on Israel to exercise "maximum restraint" in Lebanon following an Israeli strike on Beirut's southern suburb last Sunday. Paris emphasized that dismantling Hezbollah's military infrastructure is solely the responsibility of the Lebanese Armed Forces.According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christophe Lemoine told reporters that "France recalls that respecting the ceasefire is an obligation for all parties without exception to ensure the safety of civilians on both sides of the Blue Line," referring to the UN-demarcated border.Lemoine added, "France urges Israel to exercise maximum restraint and to withdraw as soon as possible from the five occupied sites on Lebanese territory."

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni, Public Security Department Director Maj. Gen. Obeidallah Maaytah, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the meeting.

France determined to recognize Palestinian state, says foreign minister
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot reaffirmed France's commitment to recognizing the State of Palestine during a speech on Friday at the 'Paris Call for the Two-State Solution, Peace and Regional Security' event hosted by the Paris Peace Forum. He warned that the two-state solution faces existential threats from unilateral actions, settlement expansions, annexation risks, rising hatred, and the collapse of peace efforts. Barrot condemned the ongoing war in Gaza, saying too many civilians are suffering and urged that every effort be made to achieve a ceasefire without delay.
