South Korean Navy Patrol Plane Crashes in Country's South
A South Korean navy plane with four crew members crashed during a training flight on Thursday and it was not immediately known if they survived, the navy said.
The P-3C patrol plane took off from its base in the southeastern city of Pohang at 1:43 p.m. but fell to the ground due to unknown reasons, the navy said in a statement.
The navy is working to determine the status of the four people aboard the plane and why it crashed, the statement said. There have been no reports of civilian casualties on the ground.
Pohang´s Nambu police station also confirmed the crash involved a navy patrol aircraft and it couldn´t immediately confirm whether there were any deaths or injuries, The Associated Press said.
An emergency office in Pohang said that rescue workers and fire trucks were dispatched to the site after receiving reports from local residents that an unidentified aircraft fell onto a hill near an apartment complex and caused a fire.
The scale and damage of the fire wasn't immediately known. Yonhap news agency published photos showing firefighters and at least one water truck operating near the crash site, with flames flickering as black-gray smoke engulfed the trees.

HONG KONG: Hong Kong authorities once again arrested prominent activist Joshua Wong on Friday and charged him with conspiracy to collude with a foreign country under a Beijing-imposed national security law. A charge sheet seen by Reuters accuses Wong of having conspired with exiled activist Nathan Law and others to ask foreign countries, institutions, organizations, or individuals outside China to impose sanctions or blockades. Such actions against Hong Kong or China, along with other hostile activities targeting them, took place in 2020, between July 1 and November 23, it added. The National Security Law, which punishes offenses such as acts of subversion, collusion with foreign forces, and terrorism, with terms of up to life in jail, was imposed by Beijing on the former British colony in 2020. The Chinese and Hong Kong governments say the law is necessary to restore stability following anti-government protests in 2019. But some Western governments have criticized it as being used to suppress free speech and dissent.

Two children among three dead in Turkey tower block fire
DIYARBAKIR, Turkiye: Two children and an adult died Thursday when a fire broke out in a 13-story apartment block in Diyarbakir, the main city in Turkiye's Kurdish-majority southeast, local officials said. Diyarbakir Governor Murat Zorluoglu said the fire began around 6:30 p.m. (1530 GMT) on the eve of Turkiye's Eid Al-Adha celebrations. Footage from the scene showed rescuers evacuating people from the building by basket cranes as fierce flames raged from the roof. Media reports said firefighters had managed to evacuate 38 people, including a baby, with Zorluoglu saying they had struggled with 'very intense smoke.' 'Seventeen wounded people were transferred to hospital for treatment but unfortunately three of them died, two of them children,' he said, without giving further details. 'If there is any negligence, those responsible will be held accountable.' By nightfall, the fire had been brought under control and rescue teams had confirmed there was no one left inside, he said.
