Ogwumike has 25 points and 12 rebounds, Diggins scores 24 to help Storm beat Aces 90-83
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike had 25 points and 12 rebounds, Skylar Diggins added 24 points and six assists and the Seattle Storm beat the Las Vegas Aces 90-83 on Friday night.
Gabby Williams had 18 points and 12 rebounds for her first career double-double, and Erica Wheeler scored 10 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter for Seattle (8-5).
Jackie Young led the Aces (5-7) with 22 points and A'ja
Wilson, who returned from a three-game absence
(concussion protocol). added 22 points and 14 rebounds. Rookie Aaliyah Nye scored a season-high 13.
The Aces have lost three straight for the first time this season and just the second since the Storm swept Las Vegas in the best-of-five 2020 WNBA Finals.
Wheeler made a 3-pointer and a layup, Diggins hit a pull-up jumper and Ogwumike made a layup to cap a 9-2 spurt that gave the Storm an 88-81 lead with 2:55 to play. The Aces went 0 for 3 from the field, 3 for 6 from the free-throw line and committed two turnovers over the final 5 1/2 minutes.
Ogwumike had two steals and moved past Sancho Lyttle (634) and Jia Perkins (635) into sixth in WNBA history with 636 career steals.
Jewell Loyd had 15 points for Las Vegas against her former team. Loyd, the No. 1 overall pick by Seattle in the 2015 WNBA draft, helped the Storm win two titles and was a six-time WNBA All-Star during her 10 seasons with the team before she requested a trade last offseason.

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired two-time 20-goal scorer Andre Burakovsky from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for Joe Veleno on Saturday. Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson has been looking for a way to add some scoring punch to one of the league's weakest offenses, but he's reluctant to commit too much money and too many years to a high-end free agent such as Mitch Marner or Nikolaj Ehlers, neither of whose ages line up with their very young core. In his three seasons in Colorado, he had 20, 19 and 22 goals after modest but consistent production for five seasons with the Washington Capitals. But he was in danger of getting squeezed out of the Kraken lineup and was an obvious trade candidate. Veleno, a fourth-line center acquired by Chicago from Detroit in the Petr Mrázek trade at the deadline, was a possible buyout candidate, and still could be, if this proves to be little more than a cap dump for the Kraken. Veleno has one year left on his deal at a $2.275-million cap hit. The Blackhawks' strong closing kick with a team loaded with rookies and players younger than 23 years old has lessened the urgency Davidson feels to turbocharge the team's long rebuilding plan. Rather than go big-game hunting in unrestricted free agency, trades like this one — modest additions who can play up and down the lineup but don't require long-term commitments that'll block younger players' paths to the NHL — are about all that Blackhawks fans should expect this summer.

CHICAGO — Cal Raleigh broke Hall of Famer Johnny Bench's 1970 record for home runs by a catcher before the All-Star break, hitting his major league-leading 28th and 29th in the Seattle Mariners' 9-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Raleigh put Seattle ahead and moved past Bench in the seventh inning with No. 29, a drive to the back of the left-field bleachers off Caleb Thielbar.
