Traveling by train can indeed be an enjoyable experience. It even provides the opportunity to meet interesting people along the way. Whether someone enjoys the scenic views from the train window, reading a book, eating a favourite snack sold by hawkers, or chatting with fellow passengers, train journeys have a charm that other modes of travel can't match. According to a news report by India TV, the fastest train of Bangladesh, the Shonar Bangla Express (Train no. 787/788), operates on the existing rail network, offering inter-city service between Dhaka and Chattogram. This train service makes just one intermediate stop at Dhaka Airport.
The report further mentions that the Shonar Bangla Express departs from Dhaka railway station at 07:00 AM (Bangladesh Standard Time) and arrives in Chittagong at 12:15 PM. On the return journey, the train leaves Chittagong at 05:00 PM and reaches Dhaka at 10:05 PM. This train operates 6 days a week according to the schedule.
It is vital to note that the Shonar Bangla Express was launched as a nonstop inter-city train, providing excellent food and speedy service. Since its inception, the train has been operating from Dhaka Railway Station.
The Shonar Bangla Express holds top priority within the Bangladesh Railway network. Its fare is similar to that of the Suborno Express. Since 2021, food prices are no longer included in the tickets provided by Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation.
The speed limit of the Shonar Bangla Express is not clearly specified. However, based on the typical speed restrictions for express trains, it is likely that the operating speed of the Shonar Bangla Express is below 160 km/h (99 mph).

Farooq Abdullah takes ride in Kashmir's Vande Bharat train, says will boost tourism

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and president of the ruling National Conference (NC), Dr Farooq Abdullah, said on Tuesday that the train service to Kashmir Valley will boost tourism and the local economy. Dr Farooq Abdullah said this after boarding the Vande Bharat train from Srinagar to Katra. He told reporters before boarding the train, 'I am very happy that I am travelling by this train to Katra today. It has been the biggest benefit for us.' He said that since the train service connects Kashmir with the rest of the country, it will boost tourism as well as the local economy. 'It is a reliable transport link for the people of the Valley. The road between Srinagar and Jammu gets closed sometimes, and the airlines start fleecing the people by jacking up the prices. With this train, people will be saved from that. This will also prove to be beneficial to the horticulture sector in Kashmir as the produce will reach the markets faster', he said. After reaching Katra, he could not hide his happiness and said, "I'm so happy that tears welled up in my eyes. Has that day really come when I can travel from Kashmir to the rest of India by train?... I want to congratulate all the workers and engineers who built the highest railway bridge in India...' He was accompanied by several party colleagues, who joined his journey from Srinagar to Katra town of Reasi district in Jammu division. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vande Bharat train service from Katra to Srinagar on June 6. The Vande Bharat train takes three hours to reach Katra from Srinagar and vice versa. The dream railway link to Kashmir Valley from Katra has 37 tunnels and scores of bridges, including the Chenab Railway Bridge, which is the World's tallest railway bridge standing 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower of Paris. The railway link also includes the Anji cable-stayed railway bridge, which is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge. The Vande Bharat train has been especially designed for the weather and topography of the region. It offers a modern and enhanced travel experience with features like fast acceleration, a high-speed operation of up to 160 km/hr, and a range of amenities. These include comfortable seating, mobile charging sockets, onboard catering and enhanced safety features. Safety and Security features include KAVACH signalling technology, CCTV cameras in all coaches, emergency push buttons, talk-back units, fire extinguishers, and aerosol-based fire detection and suppression systems. Fully sealed gangways, automatic plug doors, reclining and ergonomic seats, mobile charging sockets, bio-vacuum toilets, sensor-based water taps, and a passenger information system. Onboard Catering includes a Mini pantry with provisions for a hot case, bottle cooler, deep freezer, and hot water boiler. The train has a Special lavatory for Divyangjan (physically challenged) passengers, emergency openable windows, and disaster lights in case of emergencies. Executive Class has revolving seats and premium seating with more leg space. The train has direct and diffused lighting for a pleasant ambience, Wi-Fi, smoke alarms, an odour control system, and a coach condition monitoring system.

World's slowest train: THIS train covers 291 kilometers in..., passes through 291 bridges and 91 tunnels, name of the train is..., top speed...

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off a Vande Bharat train service between Katra and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. This is the first train that will connect the Kashmir valley and the Jammu region. According to Northern Railway, the train has two travelling classes — Chair Car (CC) and Executive Class (EC) — with tickets costing Rs 715 and Rs 1,320, respectively. PM Modi inaugurated the train in the presence of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, among others. The commercial operations of Vande Bharat trains between Katra and Srinagar commenced on Saturday. Passengers who boarded the trains from Katra to Baramulla, or vice versa, expressed immense enthusiasm, with many stating they had eagerly awaited the opportunity to travel to Kashmir by train. The first day of commercial operations went smoothly, as the trains reached their destinations by the evening, officials said. They added that public excitement was high, with most of the seats booked within hours of the train's inauguration. Apart from the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat train, there is another train journey in the world which covers a distance of 291 km in 8 hours. During this journey, the train runs continuously without any stops. The name of the train is Glacier Express. The train passes through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, such as the Rhône Glacier, the high and treacherous Oberalp Pass, the winding Landwasser Viaduct, and the Rhine Gorge, which is also known as the 'Grand Canyon of Switzerland.' Here are some of the key features of Glacier Express: The train on this route passes over towering mountains. As it moves through snow and peaceful mountain villages, the train gives the feeling of being in heaven. Known as the Glacier Express, it is often referred to as 'the slowest express train in the world.' Traversing through rugged mountains, the train runs at a speed of 24 miles per hour. Due to its slow pace, passengers get ample time to enjoy the diverse landscapes and varying altitudes. The Glacier Express crosses 291 bridges and 91 tunnels while covering a distance of 291 kilometers. This thrilling train journey is divided into four segments. Running from Zermatt to St. Moritz in Switzerland, the train passes through the stunning Alps mountains. The two most remarkable and memorable parts of this spectacular journey are the famous Landwasser Viaduct and the Oberalp Pass. The Oberalp Pass is the highest point on this route, located at an altitude of 2,033 meters above sea level.

Vande Bharat train to Srinagar steaming ahead with good public response

The Vande Bharat trains between Katra and Srinagar inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, which connected Kashmir with the rest of the country, are getting good response from people, officials said. The train has brought a new level of enthusiasm among the tourist players of Kashmir who have been reeling under a slump after the flight of tourists out of the Valley following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. The train services which started from Saturday, on the Eid festival, recorded increased footfall, including that of tourists. 'The footfall has been good for the past three days since its start. People are happy over the services,' said Saqib Yousuf, Northern Railway's chief area manager in Jammu and Kashmir. Yousuf didn't specify the number of people but people in know of the things said that hundreds made the journeys in the past three days. PM Modi inaugurated the train service on Friday paving way for the connection of Himalayan Kashmir valley with the rest of the country through rail after the completion of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line in January. While the train is expected to be a boon for locals as well as the traders curtailing the travel time between Katra and Srinagar to just 3 hours (from 6-7 hours) independent of the weather vagaries, the tourists are also finding it easy and exciting to visit the region and enjoy its beauty. Earlier the train used to run standalone between Baramulla in Kashmir and Sangaldan in Jammu province. But now the Jammu-Katra and Katra-Srinagar services completed the missing link making it the first train between Delhi and Srinagar since railway was introduced in the Indian subcontinent. The train passes through picturesque destinations and the world's highest bridge on Chenab. The track to Kashmir has 38 tunnels and 927 bridges. The rail link has two engineering marvels —world's highest rail arch bridge at 359m over Chenab River and India's first cable-stayed rail bridge over Anji river. Abhijeet, who was travelling with his family of four from Haryana, had initially thought to visit Vaisno Devi shrine in Katra and return back. But with the inauguration of Vande Bharat, he decided for a trip to the Srinagar. 'We are very excited for the journey to see Kashmir for the first time in our lives,' the couple said. 'So far, most of the people and tourists would visit the shrine in Katra and return but now everybody will get a chance to visit Kashmir. Whenever we used to come we would not go beyond Patnitop,' Abhijeet said. The Chenab bridge is drawing admiration from everywhere. People are excitedly clicking pictures with it. Even the flight pilots are making special announcements and passengers are showing eagerness to capture photographs of the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway-arch bridge, said the railway ministry. Every day two Vande Bharat trains make a total of four trips from Katra to Srinagar and back. Passengers have to pay ₹715 for a chair car seat and ₹1,320 for executive class. For the second train the fare prices are ₹660 for a chair car seat and ₹1,270 for executive class. Secretary general of Kashmir travel agents association Sajad Ahmad Kralyari said tourism has received a boost as the inauguration by the PM has sent a positive signal that things are normal and tourists can come. 'Vande Bharat trains to Kashmir are sending a positive signal and we are now getting queries from even high end tourists,' Kralyari said. 'Around 1.5 crore people visit Vaishno Devi Shrine every year. So far only 10-20% would come to Kashmir by road which was cumbersome and time consuming. Now it is easy for them to come as they are just three hours away,' he said. He also said that travelling in the train is itself an attraction as it passes through places which one would see once in a lifetime. 'They see tunnels, rivers, forests and feel the Himalayas close enough. They also travel over the world's highest railway bridge which has also become a tourist attraction,' Kralyari said.
