The Galaxy A7 Is Not a Samsung Phone, But a Sedan With a Huge Range
We rarely cover cars sold exclusively in China, but we're willing to make an exception on occasion if there's a compelling reason. Geely's latest product meets the criteria with its unusual name, impressive driving range, and the simple fact that it's not another SUV. Roughly the same size as a Toyota Camry, this large sedan is called the Galaxy A7, a name that immediately brought to mind Samsung's namesake smartphone from a few years back. Side note: Samsung actually made cars in Korea through a joint venture with Renault. Beyond the unexpected Samsung connection, the Galaxy A7 also evokes thoughts of the Audi A7. In China, Audi offers two versions of its luxury car: the familiar A7 Sportback, a five-door liftback built by FAW, and the lesser-known A7L sedan , which features a traditional trunk. The latter is built by Audi's other local partner, SAIC. Geely's A7 looks upscale enough to compete with cars bearing the fabled Four Rings. Photo by: Geely Although our Chinese may be a bit rusty, one detail about the car stood out: a driving range of more than 2,100 kilometers (1,305 miles) on a full tank and a fully charged battery. It's an impressive figure, though it's worth noting it's based on the lenient China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The Galaxy A7 is a plug-in hybrid that pairs a small 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with an electric motor. Geely claims a combined fuel consumption of just 2 liters per 100 kilometers, a whopping 117.6 miles per gallon. Reports from China indicate Geely will offer the Galaxy A7 with multiple lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery options, supplied by CALB and CATL. The largest will be an 18.99-kWh pack, enabling an electric-only range of 75 miles (120 kilometers), again based on the CLTC standard. In terms of size, the car measures 193.6 inches (4918 mm) in length, 75 inches (1905 mm) in width, and 58.8 inches (1495 mm) in height, with a generous 112 inches (2845 mm) wheelbase. It ticks nearly all the boxes for 2025 car trends: front and rear light bars, a massive center screen, and minimal physical controls. The Galaxy A7 comes with 17- to 19-inch wheels and weighs up to 3,825 pounds (1,735 kilograms) in its heaviest configuration. That translates to around $14,000–$18,000, highlighting just how far ahead China is in minimizing production costs while still turning a profit. The Galaxy A7 will be manufactured by the company that owns multiple brands, including Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Lynk & Co, Zeekr, and Farizon. Geely also owns half of Smart, 49.9% of Proton, 17% of Aston Martin, and a 9.69% stake in Mercedes, through its founder and chairman, Li Shufu. Honda Says It's Forced to Kill The Civic Type R In Europe
Honda is saying sayonara to the Civic Type R in Europe with a final send-off aptly named the Ultimate Edition. Sales of the Japanese hot hatch will come to an end next year on the Old Continent. Before it bows out, the compact performance car is available in any color you like as long as it's Championship White. To spice things up, red stripes accent the hood and sides, while the roof comes exclusively in black. To sweeten the deal, Honda includes a carbon fiber rear wing on the Ultimate Edition. More carbon fiber appears inside, with door sill trims and a center console upgrade, while eye-catching red floor mats feature a metal Type R badge. To drive home the point that this isn't your average Civic, projectors built into the front doors display a red and white Type R logo. The Civic Type R Ultimate Edition retains its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, producing 324 horsepower and 310 pound-feet (420 Newton-meters) of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox, enabling a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 5.4 seconds. So why is the Civic Type R leaving Europe anyway? Honda says it's essentially being forced to retire the CTR. Hannah Swift, Head of European Strategy and Product, notes that 'The industry is changing, and our model range is having to evolve with it in accordance with European legislation.' In other words, stricter emissions regulations have claimed another victim. Pricing details haven't been disclosed, but the Civic Type R is already notoriously expensive in several European markets, thanks to steep taxes on high-emission vehicles. In the Netherlands, for example, the standard CTR is already a $100,000 + car, before options. While the hot hatch is on its way out, Europeans can take some solace in knowing a different kind of sporty Honda is on the horizon. The reborn Prelude will arrive in the first half of 2026 as a 2+2 coupe with a hybrid powertrain and simulated gear shifts. Amazon is reportedly training humanoid robots to deliver packages
Future Amazon orders may be delivered to your door by a humanoid robot workforce. The Information reports that Amazon is developing AI software that will enable robots to operate as package delivery workers that are ferried around in Rivian electric vans, and will soon be ready to start real-world testing at a new facility. Citing an anonymous source 'involved in the effort,' The Information says that Amazon has almost finished constructing an indoor 'humanoid park' at one of the retail giant's San Francisco offices that's roughly the size of a coffee shop. The obstacle course reportedly contains one Rivian van for training purposes, with Amazon aiming to have humanoid robots 'hitch a ride in the back of Amazon's electric Rivian vans and spring out to deliver packages.' The report coincides with Amazon launching a new agentic AI team to help develop technologies that will power robots 'operating in Amazon distribution and logistics hubs.' In a statement to Silicon Valley, Amazon says that 'instead of rigid, specialized robots, we're creating systems that can hear, understand, and act on natural language commands, turning warehouse robots into flexible, multi-talented assistants.' Amazon is already using a variety of autonomous robots in its warehouse operations, including a trial of Agility Robotics' humanoid 'Digit' — a robot that was originally pitched for tasks like sitting in the back of vans and delivering packages, alongside other logistics uses. Amazon's training facility is a concerted effort to make this original vision a reality. The Information reports that a 'variety' of humanoid robots will be tested for package delivery at its facility, including a $16,000 unit from China-based Unitree. Hundreds of thousands of people currently handle delivery operations at Amazon globally. Amazon acquired the robotaxi company Zoox in 2020, suggesting a desire to fully automate end-to-end package delivery, from the warehouse to your front door.
