Pierre and the surrounding community continue to mourn the loss of a young life.16-year-old Aiden Van Balen was killed in a car crash on June 4th. Aiden had just completed his sophomore year at TF Riggs High School. He loved playing sports and was known for tooling around town on his moped. 'You know he was a buddy to everybody and such a goofball, some of the stories that his buddies talked about you know just, he was just a remarkable young man,' said family friend Brie Korkow. Soon after his death, Korkow started a GoFundMe campaign to ease the financial burdan an unexpected death like Aiden's can leave behind. You know and so to just give his family some financial room to breathe, they don't have to worry about rushing back to work. They can take their time to grieve you know in such an unimaginable loss,' said Korkow. Korkow admits she didn't know what to expect, so she set the GoFundMe goal at 5-thousand dollars. 'We blew past that, so I'm like I'll up it to ten, blew past that, and now we are well over 25 thousand dollars, so it's just incredible how people come together, and it's such a great platform to be able to support this family,' said Korkow Korkow saiys Aiden's parents have told her they plan to use some of the money to start a scholarship fund in his name. WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Drivers may encounter traffic disruptions due to construction and maintenance in Okaloosa and Walton counties in the coming weeks. Drivers are reminded to use caution at all times when travelling through a work zone and to watch for any workers and equipment that may be in the roadways. According to a news release, S. 331 will be undergoing a resurfacing project the week of June 15 from south of I-10 to U.S. 90. Drivers should expect lane closures throughout the area. Traffic officials said that in Okaloosa County, the following projects will cause construction-related traffic disruptions. Temporary road closures announced for Walton County due to erosion issues The Brooks Bridge Replacement Project taking place Sunday, June 15, through Thursday, June 19, will cause multiple alternating lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road on U.S. 98 and from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park on Santa Rosa Boulevard. Interstate 10 will be undergoing striping operations from west of Yellow River to east of Shoal River; drivers may encounter lane closures between mile markers 50 and 60 Sunday, June 15, through Thursday, June 19. U.S. 98 will also be resurfaced from Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast on the same dates. Road closures should be expected there as well. State Road 85 will undergo resurfacing and safety improvements in multiple locations, including Hospital Drive, Shoal River, P.J. Adams Parkway, and power pole replacement on Gardner Drive.
