Barella reflects on Inter Champions League defeat and Inzaghi exit
Nicolo Barella has revealed that Inter's Champions League final defeat to PSG was a 'tough defeat' that will 'stay in our minds' but praised his side's ability to bounce back.
Barella is currently a part of Inter's Club World Cup squad, the central midfielder starring in the Nerazzurri's opening two fixtures. Cristian Chivu's side fought from behind in both matches to claim a 1-1 draw and 2-1 victory against Monterrey and Urawa Red Diamonds respectively.

Speaking to DAZN, via TMW, Barella said that 'the phrase 'you always have to compete' is something I agree with 100%. It perfectly reflected last season. We didn't manage to win anything but it was a year that taught us a lot – both positive and negative. Now we want to bounce back and do our very best.'
Champions League final defeat 'stings' – Barella
Inter qualified for their second Champions League final in three years last season but once again fell short, as they were thrashed 5-0 by a dominant PSG side.

When asked to reflect on the final, Barella said: 'It'll stay in our minds – it's a loss that becomes a part of your journey in your career. It's a tough defeat that stings but in life, as in football, you need to know how to get back up and we've shown we can do that.
'We lost two league titles by a single point and lost two Champions League finals but, in-between, we've also won. We know that football is full of highs and lows and you always have to keep working harder to reach the point where you can compete for trophies. That's the mindset.'

After the final, head coach Simone Inzaghi departed the club after four seasons in which he won two Coppa Italia and the 2023-24 Scudetto. Inzaghi was replaced by former Inter played Cristian Chivu, who will seek to emulate some of Inzaghi's success.

When asked how he took Inzaghi's departure, Barella replied: 'It was a strange piece of news. After four years, being together had become the norm.
'At Cagliari I experienced many changes in coach and even a bit at Inter. I know how it works but I can't say I'm used to it.
'The only thing I felt was the need to thank Inzaghi and his staff for four fantastic years – years of growth and strong emotions.'

However, Barella was full of praise for new head coach Chivu: 'I already knew him – we spoke a few times after training matches in Appiano when he was managing the Primavera side.
'I noticed his great empathy towards players – he understands what they need. Not every coach has that and it's an important quality.
It's a tough time for us and he's giving us a huge boost. He's straightforward and eager to do well – there's a chance to achieve something special together.'

'Very unfair' - Hart on Tevez's substitution controversy
On 27 September 2011, Manchester City were 2-0 down in a Champions League group game at Bayern Munich. In a now infamous moment, Carlos Tevez appeared to refuse to warm up to be bought on, leading to City boss Roberto Mancini saying the striker was "finished" and he wanted him "out of the club". Advertisement However, City's goalkeeper at the time, Joe Hart, has now reflected on the incident, saying Tevez and Mancini "were both right to an extent". "The whole drama surrounding Carlos during that Bayern Munich game I felt was very unfair," Hart told a special Football Daily episode on Tevez's legacy. "Carlos did make himself available to come on the pitch, but he was asked to warm up, having already warmed up for 20 or 25 minutes, and then he was asked to warm up again to come on - and I'm pretty sure he said: 'I am warm.' "It was the first time we were losing that season and we were getting beaten by a very good Bayern Munich. Both very, very hostile characters, which was part of why they were both good at what they did. Advertisement "But, at that moment, it clashed and it didn't work well because Roberto obviously repeated, 'you need to warm up to come on' and Carlos being strong-minded as he is, says, 'I don't, I am warm'." The incident appeared to be sparked by the substitution of striker Edin Dzeko in the second half, with Tevez seeming unhappy he was not called on. Minutes later, when Mancini indicated to the Argentine to warm up, Tevez refused. "Mancini was very aggressive, very animated. He had a go at Edin for some reason, and then he went wild at Carlos. "Both in broken English, they didn't really understand each other, and I could see Carlos trying to find out what was being said to him and when he realised what had been said to him, he felt really wronged. Advertisement "It was a classic case of two alpha males having a different version of the same event and neither being able to say, 'look, we both need to calm down here and just sort this out' - because they were both right to an extent."

ES Tunis vs Chelsea prediction: Blues to seal place in Club World Cup round of 16
Liam Delap is still looking for his first goals for his new club since completing a £30m move (Getty) Chelsea vs ES Tunis betting tips Chelsea to win to nil - 4/5 William Hill Liam Delap to score or assist – 5/4 Bet365 Chelsea face Esperance Sportive de Tunis in their final group match of the Club World Cup on Tuesday night in Philadelphia (Wednesday, 3am BST), with the Blues needing a win to secure a place in the round of 16. Advertisement A shock 3-1 loss to Flamengo last time out means that the Brazilian side top Group D with six points, with Chelsea currently on three. And with Tunis having beaten LAFC 1-0 in their last game, both of these sides sit on three points ahead of the final match in what will be a winner-takes-all contest in Philadelphia. The disappointing performance against Flamengo will have worried Maresca but he will know his team have more than enough to beat the Tunisian champions, and football betting sites have priced the Blues as 3/10 favourites to win, compared to 10/1 for the African side. Chelsea vs ES Tunis betting tip: Blues to advance to last 16 Many Chelsea fans will have come into this tournament fairly excited to see how their side performed against the world's best, though that excitement will have been dampened with a poor performance against a Flamengo side that were dominant for much of their 3-1 win. Advertisement But while the Blues will have to be wary of a Tunis side who were able to beat LA, the gulf between these two sides is far more pronounced. Tunisian champions Tunis have won eight of their last 10 matches, scoring 21 and conceding four in the process, but though they lost 2-0 to Flamengo in their competition opener and will certainly not be used to the level offered by a £1bn Chelsea squad. And while Chelsea lost last week, that remains just their third defeat in the last 10, having scored 18 in that time. What's more, before the defeat to Flamengo the Blues had conceded just six goals in their previous 10 matches, with five clean sheets. The end of the season proved that when it all clicks, the Blues can compete with the best sides on the continent, so they should have more than enough on Thursday night. Advertisement With that in mind, we're backing Chelsea to win with a clean sheet, with odds of around 4/5 with various betting sites. Chelsea vs ES Tunis prediction 1: Chelsea to win to nil - 4/5 William Hill Chelsea vs ES Tunis prediction: Delap to score first goals for new club? Summer signing Liam Delap hasn't got off to an electrifying start since his £30m move was confirmed last month, but the England youngster caused problems for opposition defences on numerous occasions in his first two games, including grabbing an assist on his debut against LAFC. The 22-year-old, who scored 12 goals for Ipswich as they were relegated at the end of last season, is yet to score for his new club but with Nicolas Jackson suspended and qualification riding on this game, there'll be plenty of expectation on his shoulders on Thursday. Advertisement And we think Delap will rise to the occasion against a less stern defence, with a wager on the 22-year-old to get his score or assist offered at around 5/4 in the latest Club World Cup odds.
