L'Oreal to double its India business; company CEO says the country is strategic market, big priority
Paris [France], June 2 (ANI): Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of global beauty products company L'Oreal, has said they aim to more than double business in India over the next couple of years.
The L'Oreal CEO had a meeting with Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in Paris today.
'...I am very pleased with the meeting I just had with Minister Goyal (Piyush Goyal). We shared our mutual ambition for India and India is a very strategic market for L'Oreal,' the CEO said.
L'Oreal's leadership has identified India as a very strategic market with very strong growth potential.
Hieronimus said India is a country of opportunities, one of the fastest-growing beauty markets in the world.
'We intend to more than double our business in the next couple of years, expand our factories which are today manufacturing 95% of what we sell in India but also export into rest of the region. So, it is a country of opportunities, one of the fastest beauty markets in the world and a big priority for L'Oreal,' he told the media.
India serves not only as a consumption market but also as a regional manufacturing hub for L'Oreal's operations.
'We are exporting hair and skin products, particularly to the Gulf region. So, it is just the beginning of a big adventure. We are manufacturing half a billion units in India, but we intend to increase that in the years to come.'
The rapid growth trajectory of beauty product markets in India, coupled with the country's manufacturing capabilities and skilled workforce, makes the country an attractive destination for international companies looking to establish regional production bases while serving the domestic market.
'Discussed opportunities for L'Oreal to #MakeInIndia for the world,' Goyal said in a post on X after the meeting. (ANI)

"Glad I Came To See It": Elon Musk's Father On Visit To Ayodhya's Ram temple
Ayodhya: Errol Musk, father of tech billionaire Elon Musk, visited the Ram temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday afternoon and described the experience as "wonderful" and one of the "best things" he has ever done. Errol also paid obeisance at the Hanumangarhi temple nearby. He was initially scheduled to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra as well but the plan may be dropped due to extreme heat in the region. #WATCH | Uttar Pradesh: "I feel great, wonderful," says Errol Musk, father of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, on his visit to Ayodhya — ANI (@ANI) June 4, 2025 "It's wonderful, absolutely wonderful (Ayodhya visit). It's one of the best things I've ever done. "I'm so glad I came to see it and can't wait till the temple gets completed, the big temple, it's going to be something like a wonder of the world," Errol told PTI Videos. Separately, talking to reporters after visiting both temples, he said, "My experience here in India has been wonderful. I'm here (in India) to begin working with Servotech and am looking forward to spending a lot of time in the country. The temples are marvellous and so are the people." Accompanied by his daughter Alexandra Musk, Errol arrived at Ayodhya airport around 2.30 pm and left after 4 pm. He was wearing kurta-pyjama during his visit to the Ram temple. Security was on high alert in the temple town during the visit. "There is already a three-layered high-level security cover in place in Ayodhya, which includes round-the-clock deployment of high-tech anti-drone systems capable of detecting and neutralising unauthorised aerial activity," a police officer said. He added that security arrangements in and around the temple area include CCTV surveillance, regular checking of visitors and deployment of specially trained personnel. "However, no additional security cover will be extended officially for this visit as the existing measures are adequate," he said. Errol, who is the Global Advisor to Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd, began his India trip on June 1 and will be in the country till June 6, a spokesperson for the Haryana-based company said in a statement. "His visit is squarely focused on accelerating India's burgeoning green technology and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure development," the company said. Servotech managing director Raman Bhatia is also expected to visit the Ram temple on Wednesday.

Public sector banks outshine Private lenders in Q4FY25 profit, driven by business expansion: CareEdge Report
New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI): The government-owned banks have reported higher profits than their private sector counterparts in the fourth quarter of the financial year 2025, according to a recent report by CareEdge Ratings. The report shows that Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) collectively witnessed a moderate improvement in their financial performance in Q4FY25. The report said 'Net profit for SCBs increased by 4.3 per cent year-on-year to Rs 0.93 lakh crore in the quarter, driven by business expansion.... Conversely, Private Sector Banks (PVBs) experienced a decline of 4.7 per cent, reaching Rs 0.42 lakh crore in Q4FY25'. Their Net Interest Income (NII), the difference between interest earned and interest paid, rose 3.6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to reach Rs 2.09 lakh crore, supported by steady loan growth. However, this was partially offset by rising deposit costs, which impacted margins. The Net Interest Margin (NIM) for SCBs declined 21 basis points (bps) YoY to 2.99 per cent, mainly due to slower growth in high-yield loan segments, increased deposit rates, and slower growth in low-cost CASA deposits. Despite pressure on margins, net profit for SCBs increased by 4.3 per cent YoY to Rs 0.93 lakh crore in the quarter. This improvement came on the back of business expansion, lower provisioning requirements, and higher income from other sources. Among SCBs, Public Sector Banks (PSBs) showed impressive growth, with their net profit rising 13.1 per cent YoY to Rs 0.51 lakh crore. This surge in profit is attributed to a low base in the previous year, better asset quality, gains from treasury operations, and controlled operating expenses. In contrast, Private Sector Banks (PVBs) saw a 4.7 per cent decline in net profit, bringing their total to Rs 0.42 lakh crore in Q4FY25. The fall was largely due to losses posted by one major private bank, which faced accounting mismatches, difficulties in the microfinance segment, and higher provisioning needs. However, if this particular bank's performance is excluded, the overall profit of PVBs would have actually grown 5.4 per cent YoY, reaching Rs 0.46 lakh crore, showing relatively healthy growth. The banking sector's asset quality also improved in Q4. The Net Non-Performing Asset (NNPA) ratio of SCBs dropped to an all-time low of 0.5 per cent, compared to 0.6 per cent a year ago Overall, the report suggested that public sector banks have emerged stronger in the latest quarter, supported by improvements in profitability and asset quality, while private banks faced pressure due to isolated issues in select institutions. Chinese AI surge shapes global landscape in Q1 2025: Report
New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI): The rise of Chinese AI emerges as one of the key factors that drove the Artificial Intelligence landscape in the first quarter of 2025, according to a report by Artificial Analysis, an independent AI benchmarking and insights provider. The US leads across reasoning models, the top 4 places on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index are all taken by reasoning models from US labs. However, China currently leads non-reasoning models; DeepSeek V3 0324 is the leading non-reasoning model. Models from labs outside of USA and China have continually improved, but currently don't compete for frontier intelligence. The rise of Chinese AI Labs marked a notable shift in global competition. Chinese entities released models that rivalled US counterparts, particularly in open-weight models, with DeepSeek V3 0324 leading in non-reasoning categories. The report also highlights that AI continues to progress, with the help of leading labs like OpenAI, Google, and many others, consistently advancing intelligence, efficiency, and speed. While OpenAI's o4-mini (high) maintained a lead, models like Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro and xAI's Grok 3 rapidly narrowed the gap, intensifying competition. In the field of AI, reasoning models emerged as a significant frontier. These models, which 'think' through problems by generating intermediate steps before providing an answer, became widespread across major labs. This approach has delivered substantial intelligence gains, influencing how AI processes complex tasks. Artificial Analysis also discusses the efficiency and Mixture of Experts (MoEs) in revolutionising AI inference. Costs plummeted by over 32 times since September 2024, and more than 1000x since GPT-4's 2023 launch. This was primarily due to smaller models (including MoE architectures), optimised inference, and new hardware, making advanced AI more accessible Lastly, Multimodal AI saw significant advancements. Models became more capable of handling image and audio data natively. Image generation, exemplified by OpenAI's GPT-4o, achieved new quality benchmarks, while text-to-speech models improved significantly, offering more human-like dialogue. These trends collectively define a quarter of rapid evolution, increased accessibility, and a globally competitive environment in AI. (ANI)
