Kentucky G Kerr Kriisa enters transfer portal
March 31 - Kentucky guard Kerr Kriisa entered the transfer portal on Monday with one season of eligibility remaining.
"To Coach (Mark) Pope and the UK coaching staff - it has been an absolute dream to play for the University of Kentucky. Thank you for your continued support," he posted on social media.
Kriisa was limited to just nine games (one start) in his lone season in Lexington before sustaining a season-ending foot injury in December that required surgery. He averaged 4.4 points, 3.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds.
Kriisa is familiar with the portal, having started his career at Arizona (2020-23) before spending the 2023-24 season at West Virginia. The Estonia native has career averages of 9.3 points, 4.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 108 games (94 starts).
Kentucky's season ended Friday with a 78-65 loss to Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in Indianapolis.
"To my teammates -- I am so thankful for the relationships we've formed during my time at Kentucky, and I will keep those friendships for a lifetime," Kriisa wrote.
"To BBN (Big Blue Nation) -- your unending support of me and my team has been amazing. Playing at Rupp Arena in front of huge crowds has been a dream come true.
"I will always cherish my time in the Blue Grass State, and I wish Kentucky basketball all the best in the future."

A former college and high school basketball star at two national powerhouses is now facing a DUI charge in Louisville. Russ Smith, a 34-year-old guard playing in Italy's second division, was picked up in the early hours of Sunday morning. He has since been booked on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and one count for an expired registration tag, according to online records. An officer reported a 'strong odor of alcoholic beverages' emanating from Smith, who admitted to consuming 'two bourbon pours neat' before getting behind the wheel. The former Louisville Cardinals star and NCAA champion then failed a field sobriety test before his blood-alcohol level of 0.073 was recorded, according to the arrest citation. That is technically below Kentucky 's 0.08 blood-alcohol limit, but state law permits charges for drivers with any level above 0.04 if there is 'other competent evidence' to consider, according to the Courier Journal. Smith has since been released on bond and will be due for an arraignment hearing on Wednesday at 9am. The New York native is best known to hoops fanatics as the scrappy 6-foot Louisville guard who, along with Peyton Siva, led coach Rick Pitino's Cardinals to a national championship in 2013 – a title the school has since vacated. In 2015, it was revealed that Louisville recruits were provided strippers and escorts between 2010 and 2014. One woman later claimed she was paid $100 to have sex with Smith, then a top recruit from Queens, New York's Archbishop Molloy. Smith would later deny that claim to the Courier Journal in 2016. He was never charged for any wrongdoing in the NCAA case against Louisville, which vacated the 2013 title and other achievements as part of its punishment. He would go on to be taken by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft but never really found a home in the league.

Reds rely on the long ball, sweep Diamondbacks
June 8 - Matt McLain hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the seventh inning to help the Cincinnati Reds complete a three-game sweep of the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks with a 4-2 victory on Sunday afternoon. Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Jose Trevino also homered for the Reds to wrap up their fourth sweep of the season. Reds starter Brady Singer allowed two runs and five hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked three. The game was delayed by rain for 30 minutes with no outs in the top of the sixth. Scott Barlow was on the mound for the Reds when the game resumed and he retired the side in the sixth. Taylor Rogers (2-2) did the same in the seventh and eighth, and Tony Santillan pitched the ninth for his second save. Arizona starter Zac Gallen (4-8) returned to the mound after the delay and departed after giving up the home run to McLain. He allowed four runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking three. Eugenio Suarez homered for the second straight game for the Diamondbacks, who came into the series riding a four-game winning streak. Suarez hit a high fly to right-center field that carried over the fence with one out in the second to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead. Arizona's Alek Thomas led off the third with a single up the middle, was sacrificed to second by Jose Herrera and scored on a line-drive single up the middle by Corbin Carroll to extend the lead to 2-0. Encarnacion-Strand homered for the third straight game when he reached for a low curveball with one out in the fourth and lined it over the left field fence to cut the lead to 2-1. Trevino led off the fifth by hitting the second pitch over the fence in left-center field to tie the score 2-2. Sovereignty beats Journalism to win Belmont Stakes showdown at Saratoga
Sovereignty bested Journalism on Saturday in a Kentucky Derby rematch to win the 157th Belmont Stakes, and the second hosted at Saratoga. Sovereignty and jockey Junior Alvarado traversed the field of eight on a fast Saratoga track after downpours throughout the morning and early afternoon dried up before post time. Journalism was second and Baeza was third – the same 1-2-3 as the Kentucky Derby. Sovereignty led off the first leg of the Triple Crown by winning the Derby in early May. The Bill Mott-trained colt also edged Journalism in that race. After the Derby win, the Godolphin-owned 3-year-old opted out of the Preakness Stakes to focus on the Belmont, forfeiting a shot at history to win the Triple Crown. The Triple Crown hasn't been won since 2018, when Bob Baffert's Justify won the 105th Belmont Stakes to secure the third jewel. Journalism was the only horse to run in all three legs, winning the Preakness.
