Karnataka Governor, Health Minister, enthusiasts participate in yoga demonstration in Bengaluru

Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts led by Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot and Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao participated in a mass yoga demonstration to mark the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21.
The event, organised by the AYUSH Ministry on the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', was part of a nationwide 'Yoga Sangam' initiative. Organised by the Karnataka AYUSH Department in collaboration with yoga associations, civil society groups, and wellness organisations, the celebration in Bengaluru was one of the largest yoga gatherings in Karnataka.
Inaugurating the event, the Governor emphasised the importance of yoga as a unifying force and a path to holistic health. He participated in various yoga asanas along with the Health Minister and other dignitaries, inspiring the public to inculcate a healthy lifestyle.
Yoga at NIMHANS
The Department of Integrative Medicine at NIMHANS, organised yoga sessions dedicated to promoting mental well-being through yoga. This year's celebration featured a unique initiative titled 'Yoga Samavesha – A Yoga-based Mental Health Initiative for Older Adults', supported by the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Union Ministry of AYUSH.
Aimed at bringing attention to the mental health needs of senior citizens and older adults, particularly those residing in old age homes across Bengaluru, this programme witnessed participation by groups of senior citizens from across Bengaluru. The session was specially designed and tailored to support their mental health, emotional balance, and physical vitality, doctors said.
Separate mass yoga sessions were organised for staff and students at Gymkhana ground, and for patients at Ashwini Hall in NIMHANS.
Elsewhere in the city, Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra led a yoga session with party workers at the office of the BJP.

Ravi performed yoga asanas in the presence of around 10,000 students on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day at Velammal Global School in Madurai on Saturday (June 21, 2025.) The event began at around 8 a.m. at Usain Bolt ground of the school. Mr. Ravi told the students about the importance of practising yoga asanas. He said 10 years ago, in 2015, India gave the gift to the world and the United Nations had accepted it. 'Every year the number of participants all over the world has been increasing,' he said. Yoga originated with Lord Shiva, the Aadhi guru and the Aadhi yogi and was codified by Rishi Patanjali,' he said. He told the students that yoga was the most effective key to good health, physical health as well as mental health. He advised them to dream big and told them that they were like the seeds of a banyan tree which will grow into a mammoth tree. Mr. Ravi said that in their journey and the growth, yoga will be the most powerful and reliable ally. 25,000 tribal students perform 108 Surya Namaskarams in 108 minutes in Vizag Chairman of Velammal Educational Trust M.V Muthuramalingam said when he was suffering from health issues he was advised to practise yoga. He advised the students to regularly practise yoga asanas. The event was organised with the main aim of promoting physical fitness, mental health and wellness among the students and the public, and to create awareness about yoga. The programme was also being held to showcase India's traditional education system and culture.
