‘He has played County cricket, he knows the conditions there': Ricky Ponting bats for Arshdeep Singh to be included in India's playing XI vs England in 1st Test

Former Australia captain and current Punjab Kings coach Ricky Ponting said that PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh should be slotted into the playing XI of the 1st England vs India Test at Headingley, set to start on June 20. Ponting feels that Arshdeep, who has played county cricket will be familiar with the conditions in the United Kingdom. 'I would actually have him in their Test team at the start (of the England series). He's very skillful, he has played County cricket, he knows the conditions there and the Dukes Ball will help him in the UK as well,' he said. 'To have that point of difference, having a left-armer in your team, will be something that if India don't do it then it'll be a bit of a surprise to me.' 'As we know in England the ball still swings (be it) 30, 40 or 50 overs old. To have someone that's got that swing bowling ability and a left-armer, (it) is something that the Indian team should definitely look out for on that tour,' he added. Post his T20I debut for India in 2022, Arshdeep, now 26, has become India's leading wicket-taker in T20Is with 99 scalps in 63 games. But he has played only 12 matches for Punjab at the first-class level with 39 wickets at an average of 12. In 2023, after a 17-wicket IPL season, the left-arm pacer signed for English county Kent and played five first-class matches picking up 13 wickets at an average of 41.76 with his best figures of 3 for 58. Last year, Arshdeep took 20 wickets for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and it was his five-wicket haul against Mumbai in which he picked up the wickets of Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav that led Rai to believe that his ward was making progress in red-ball cricket too. Arshdeep would carry Dukes and Kookaburra balls in his kit bag and practise with them whenever he got a chance.

At 39, this star batter smashed triple century, his name is..., he played for...

In this collection of pictures we shall know the star batter who smashed a triple century at the age of 39. Let's have a closer look at this interesting story. International cricketers usually decide to retire by the age of 39. There must have been only a few cricketers who have played cricket for their country at this age. (Pic - Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli) Today we have brought the story of a batsman who not only played cricket for his country at the age of 39, but also created history by scoring a triple century. This batsman did the feat of scoring a triple century in Test cricket, which only a few batsmen in the world have been able to do. He troubled the bowlers a lot by staying on the crease for 10 hours. Interestingly, he did this miracle in his last test match and moreover, he scored this triple century with the captain's bat. Let's know about this batsman. The name of this batsman who scored a triple century at the age of 39 is Andy Sandham. This former England batsman not only played a big innings, but it was a historic triple century. It was historic because he became the first batsman to score a triple century in Test history. Andy Sandham was an experienced batsman from England. He did this feat during the tour of West Indies in 1930. This tour was historic in many ways, because West Indies had not registered its first Test win till that time. Sandham scored a triple century in the fourth and last Test match played in Kingston, Jamaica, which ended in a draw. This was also the last Test of his career. Andy Sandham played this stinning innings while opening the innings for England. He troubled the West Indies bowlers by staying at the crease for more than 10 hours (600 minutes). He batted on a pitch where spinners were getting help, but the Windies bowlers were seen kneeling before Andy Sandham. This batsman faced 640 balls and scored 325 runs, in which he also hit 28 fours. He is the only batsman in the world to score the highest individual score and triple century in international cricket at the age of 39. An interesting thing related to his innings is that he batted with his captain's bat. It is said that Andy Sandham had to borrow his captain Freddie Calthorpe's bat because his own bat was broken. Actually, during the England-West Indies series, Sandham sold all his 'extra' bats and kept only one bat with him. However, this bat broke before the last test of the series, due to which he had to take the captain's bat. However, this proved lucky for him because he played a historic innings.

Virat Kohli to revoke Test retirement and make a comeback? Michael Clarke's bold prediction sparks buzz

After the high-octane Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final, the focus now shifts to the upcoming five-match Test series between India and England. The Indian Test squad has flown to England to begin preparations for the new cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27. As anticipation builds for the series—set to begin on June 20 at Headingley—the team will undoubtedly feel the absence of legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. However, former Australian captain Michael Clarke has made a bold prediction, suggesting that Kohli might come out of retirement and make a comeback. Virat Kohli to make a Test comeback? The 'King' stepped away from red-ball cricket on May 12, bringing an end to an illustrious 14-year career in the format. In over 123 Tests, he scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries to his name. While he recently also helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) get their first-ever IPL title, Kohli admitted that the triumph still pales in comparison to the emotional weight of Test cricket. Michael Clarke believes that if India suffers a heavy defeat in the upcoming series—potentially even a 5-0 whitewash—the pressure from fans and the broader cricketing community could push Virat Kohli to reconsider his Test retirement. Speaking on the Beyond23 Cricket podcast, Clarke reflected on Kohli's deep love for the traditional format. He suggested that if Indian cricket hits a rough patch during the England series, there's a genuine chance Kohli could be persuaded to return—provided the selectors, captain, and fans are behind the idea. "If India gets hammered in England—say they lose 5-0—I wouldn't be surprised if there's a strong public push for Kohli to return," Clarke said. "He's still passionate about Test cricket. If there's a call from the captain, selectors, and fan support, I think he'd seriously consider it." Clarke also spoke about the simultaneous retirement of Rohit Sharma, calling him a sharp tactician and praising his leadership. "With Rohit stepping away from Tests and Kohli too, it's a huge loss for red-ball cricket," Clarke noted. "Test cricket will undoubtedly miss both of them." Michael Clarke on the stampede in Bengaluru The former Aussie legend also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the tragic stampede that occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 4, during RCB's IPL 2025 victory celebrations. Reflecting on the incident, the former Australian captain emphasized the importance of safety during large public gatherings. "It's devastating. Hopefully, we never see something like this again," Clarke said. "Fans and players should be able to celebrate such moments together, but it has to be done safely. My thoughts are with all the families affected. It was a tragic end to what had been an incredible season."
