NASCAR's premier series will race south of the border for the first time Sunday — and outside the United States for the first time in nearly 67 years.
The 100-lap event at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez will mark the third international points race for the NASCAR Cup Series — the past two were in Canada with the most recent being in Toronto on July 18, 1958.
Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez's 15-turn, 2.42-mile layout will become the 16th road course to play host to a Cup race — and the sixth road course of the past 10 to be held on a road or street course. The track, which held Xfinity races from 2005-08, is the 13th new track in Cup since 2000.
Chase Elliott (three victories), Ryan Blaney (two) and Joey Logano (two) have won seven of the past 11 Cup points races at tracks new to the schedule.
Mexico City marks the start of a critical stretch of road courses, which will comprise four of the final 11 races in the 2025 regular season. Hendrick Motorsports, which has won at a Cup-record eight road courses, leads in poles, wins, top fives, top 10s, laps led and average finish on road courses since the Next Gen car was introduced in 2022.
Hendrick drivers have won of the past eight on road or street courses (two wins apiece for William Byron and Kyle Larson and one for Alex Bowman).

The inference being, of course, that the Reds have somehow pretended to stretch the £142m fee received from Barcelona over seven years ago in an effort to present a false reality of a club who don't spend heavily in the transfer market. Advertisement For the avoidance of doubt, the sale of Coutinho in January 2018 did facilitate the arrivals of £75m Virgil van Dijk and £65m Alisson Becker, which, quite neatly rounded up to a nice, even £140m and almost directly led to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool going from pretenders to contenders and then serial winners of every major trophy between the years 2019 and 2022. But, of course, Liverpool have not made a habit of such an extraordinary outlay that is being paid for Germany international Wirtz. In fact, only two senior players have officially been signed for the Reds since the transfer window closed in August 2023. Jeremie Frimpong's £29m release clause was triggered last month to add to the £12m addition of Federico Chiesa last year. Advertisement That means that the Reds have spent, inclusive of add-ons, £41m in two years. That is around £10m more than Brighton & Hove Albion have just paid to land Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiakos. The imminent arrival of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, at £29m, takes the Reds to £70m on sporting director Richard Hughes's watch. Throw in the addition of Wirtz at £116m, which is, again, inclusive of all add-ons, and it takes Liverpool's spending in the Arne Slot era to £186m, which, while not an insignificant amount, pales in comparison to the likes of Chelsea, whose spendthrift model has seen them lay out the thick end of £350m during that same timeframe. Such has been the Londoners' disorienting level of recruitment, in fact, that they have named a 28-man squad for this month's Club World Cup and have still been able to omit £47.5m Raheem Sterling, £38.5m Axel Disasi, £45m Ben Chilwell and £45m Joao Felix. Manchester City, meanwhile, are careering towards a total of £320m themselves since the start of last season, while Manchester United continue to spend good money after bad on a string of players unsuited or ill equipped to perform at Old Trafford. Just the £209m spent last summer, for those keeping score. Advertisement Since the start of the decade, Liverpool sit outside the top 10 for money spent in the Premier League and the eye-watering and potential British-record addition of Germany international Wirtz only moves them into eighth, around £30m short of West Ham United. So no, the Coutinho is long gone at Anfield, spent wisely on two of the greatest players the club have ever had in Alisson and Van Dijk and that, ironically, is the level Wirtz is being viewed at internally at Anfield. That means the pressure is on immediately and at that sort of price, the pitch forks will be out from those hoping it falls on its face as hopelessly as many of those aforementioned Chelsea deals. But if a risk-averse and often parsimonious strategy to signings has taught anything over the last few years at Anfield, it's that Liverpool often get it right when it's time to spend big. For them, unlike some of their rivals, there is no alternative.

Thunder break NBA record for total points in a season, including playoffs
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A record for Oklahoma City: No team in NBA history has scored more points in a season than the Thunder. It's a nuanced record, taking into account both regular season and playoff games. And technically, the Thunder would have broken the record on Wednesday if their appearance in the NBA Cup championship game — which is considered an exhibition — counted in any league totals. But now, no matter how one counts, it belongs to the Thunder. They came into Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers needing 68 points for the record and got it on a free throw by NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 6:09 left in the third quarter on Friday night. That gave the Thunder 12,162 for the season, breaking the mark of 12,161 scored by the Golden State Warriors in 104 games during the 2018-19 season. Friday's game was the 102nd official contest for the Thunder this season. (They scored 81 points in the NBA Cup championship game loss to Milwaukee in December, a point total and outcome that doesn't factor into any season stats.) The total-points record is the latest entry on a history-making season for the Thunder, who set a franchise record with 68 regular-season wins and — if they win the NBA title — would become the fourth team in league history to post at least 84 victories in a full season. Only Golden State (88 wins in 2015-16), Chicago (87 in 1995-96) and the Bulls again (84 in 1996-97) have reached 84 wins in a season. 'I think there's just a lot of integrity to the team,' Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said when asked how the team doesn't seem fazed by its numbers. 'I think that starts with the makeup that these guys have. Great psychological makeup, competitive makeup, personal makeup. Then over time we've had to really kind of forge into this version of ourselves, in visible spaces.' The total-points mark is obviously fueled by longevity of the season. The Thunder were only fourth in points per game during the regular season behind Cleveland, Memphis and Denver, and when adding in playoffs Oklahoma City's scoring average this season was only 27th in NBA history. That said, no matter how the finals end, it has been a season that will be in the Thunder record books for a long time. In addition to the scoring, the Thunder are currently second all-time in average point differential per game (12.2 entering Friday) behind only the 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks. It helps illustrate how big a turnaround the Thunder have enjoyed after going 22-50 in the 2020-21 season, then 24-58 a year later and 40-42 the year after that. 'We haven't relied on anything outside the outcomes,' Daigneault said. 'The noise, we haven't relied on that when we weren't winning. We haven't relied on that while we were building.
