Iran fires fresh missiles amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes
Iran launched a second round of missiles against Israel late on Saturday as Israel's military kept up attacks in Iran following earlier strikes which targeted nuclear and military sites. They also killed key leaders in the country's governing theocracy. Israel said hundreds of airstrikes over the past two days killed nine senior scientists and experts involved in Iran's nuclear programme, in addition to several top generals. Iran's UN ambassador said 78 people were killed and more than 320 wounded. The US and Iran had been scheduled to hold their sixth round of indirect talks over Iran's nuclear programme on Sunday in Oman, but Oman's foreign minister said the meeting was cancelled after Israel's strikes. First responders were looking for survivors and clearing the remnants of a missile which fell on a neighbourhood outside Tel Aviv early on Sunday morning. Responders used a drone to look for survivors in areas that were too hard to access. Some people were fleeing the area with their belongings in suitcases. The Israeli military said early on Sunday it had targeted Iran's Defence Ministry headquarters in Tehran as well as sites it alleged were associated with Iran's nuclear programme around Tehran. It alleged the sites were 'related to the Iranian regime's nuclear weapons project'. US intelligence agencies and the International Atomic Energy Agency have repeatedly said Iran was not pursuing a nuclear weapon before Israel unleashed its campaign of airstrikes on Friday. Three drones were launched toward a base housing US forces in Iraq following Israel's strikes on Iran, a US military official and a second US official said on Saturday. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly. The drones were shot down, the officials said. No group claimed responsibility for the attack on Ain al-Asad air base in western Iraq. A network of powerful Iran-backed militias in Iraq has remained mostly quiet amid the escalating Israel-Iran conflict. In the past, the militias had periodically attacked US bases in Iraq and Syria in retaliation for Washington's support for Israel in its war against the Iran-allied Hamas militant group in Gaza. Also on Saturday, for the second day, supporters of armed factions in Iraq demonstrated in central Baghdad to denounce the Israeli bombing of Iran.

Opinion: Lib Dem led council must not close Powys day centre
They say 'a society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable'. Yet as highlighted in last week's County Times, the future of the Sylfaen centre at Llanidloes is under threat. Sylfaen is a Powys County Council-owned day service in Llanidloes which offers service users aged 19 to 72 a programme of sensory-based activities including soap making, sensory craft, gardening, cooking and day trips. Yet there are fears that it could close under Powys County Council's Liberal Democrat-led cabinet. Bearing in mind that Disability is a Protected Characteristic under the Public Sector Equality Duty, public organisations have to consider the potential impacts fully and share the impact assessment with those affected. With that in mind, we need assurance that a full impact assessment about the closure of Sylfaen has been done and not a mere tick box. The general duty of the Equality Act 2010 (also known as the Public Sector Equality Duty or PSED) sets out that those subject to the duty must have due regard to the need to: Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act. Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. In Wales, the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) goes further and contains express provisions about engagement (Regulation 5) and equality impact assessments (Regulation 8) which are not present in the English PSED. Regulation 8 (1) of Equality Act 2010 (Statutory Duties) (Wales) Regulations 2011, states that: a. assessing the likely impact of its proposed policies and practices on its ability to comply with the general duty; b. assessing the impact of any: 1. policy or practice that the authority has decided to review, 2. revision that the authority proposes to make to a policy or practice, on its ability to comply with that duty; c. monitoring the impact of its policies on its ability to comply with that duty. The reality is Lib Dem led Powys expect volunteers and Direct Payments to plug the gap yet as is well known that's merely further pressure on carers and families.

Letter: Powys public paying the price for smart meter issues
We live in Cwmbelan and I read Pat Atkinson's letter with interest as it exposes the tip of the chaos concerning 'smart meters'. Some years ago the Government was keen for everyone to have a 'smart meter', so you got one whether you needed it or not. In rural areas, like mid Wales, the wireless/telephone signal to link the 'smart meter' to your supplier did not work even then. Today it still does not work and my supplier just fobs me off with a 'we can't do anything about it' attitude. So each month I take my meter reading and send it to my supplier over the internet. By not having a working 'smart meter' you are denied access to some your supplier's better tariffs (eg electric car charging), and it can cost you money. We recently installed solar panels and in sunny May this year we exported more units (401) back to the grid than we received from our supplier (300). We received £16.44 for our exported units, but were charged £73.08 for our imported units. With a working 'smart meter' we would have received £60.15 for our exported units ; quite a difference. I have tried to involve my SM without much success, although our new MP has said he will investigate the problem. It cannot be beyond the various responsible authorities and companies to resolve this situation and provide everyone with an accurate working 'smart meter' system, but I will bet a month's electricity bill that nothing will be done anytime soon. Also, I will bet another month' bill that the performance of the wind turbines that are soon to be erected in view of our property will be monitored by some sort of radio/telephone signal that works.
