Perlis bans vape sales effective Aug 1
KANGAR: The sale of e-cigarettes or vapes will be banned in Perlis effective Aug 1, says Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
Mohd Shukri said the decision was made as the use of vapes was deemed haram through the decision of the Perlis State Fatwa Committee regarding e-cigarettes in 2022.
"In this regard, vape traders (in Perlis) must be ready to find new businesses, as their licences and business operations will be halted (starting Aug 1)," he said at a press conference after chairing the exco meeting at the State Legislative Assembly Complex on Wednesday (May 14).
Mohd Shukri said that although it is not possible to completely curb the use of vapes, he is optimistic that the ban would keep youths from getting caught up in the use of such devices.
Local authorities will conduct monitoring and enforcement operations on business premises selling vapes after Aug 1.
Meanwhile, Mohd Shukri said Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025 would continue until next year to align with the federal government's organisation of Visit Malaysia 2026.
"I urge the people of Perlis to welcome tourists to boost the economy and to treat all tourists who come to Perlis perfectly," he said. – Bernama

BANGKOK: (Bernama) Thailand has unveiled plans for a landmark "Thailand Entertainment Complex' project, aimed at boosting economic growth, attracting international tourists and strengthening its global competitiveness. Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat said the project was part of efforts to position Thailand as a premier destination for world-class attractions. "The complex is envisioned as a new economic engine, fostering tourism revenue and creating innovative industries to ensure sustainable economic growth,' he said in a statement on Thursday (June 5). The entertainment complex is anticipated to generate 12 to 40 billion baht in annual tax revenue while creating thousands of jobs, he said. Julapun said the government has submitted a draft bill to the House of Representatives to establish a regulatory framework for the complex. Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, Suksit Srichomkwan, said the complex will include a casino, which will operate under strict legal conditions and anti-money laundering measures. It will also feature concert halls, large convention and exhibition centres, amusement parks, museums, Michelin-starred restaurants, and green spaces for outdoor activities.
