E-Power To The Skies: India Embarks On Indigenous Electric Aircraft Project E-Hansa
In a significant step towards green flying and technological indigenisation, India is going to create 'E-Hansa', a two-seat domestic electric training aircraft, at a cost of Rs 2 crore, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh informed on Tuesday. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) located in Bengaluru will be responsible for the development of the aircraft. E-Hansa is part of the larger HANSA-3 Next Generation (NG) programme and is intended to be an environmentally friendly and cost-efficient pilot-training alternative.
"The E-Hansa will significantly cut costs compared to imported aircraft and is a proud symbol of India's push toward clean energy in aviation," Dr Singh told a high-level review meeting with science department secretaries.

Emphasis On Indigenous Innovation And Public-Private Partnerships
The review meeting had deliberations on performance indicators, previous implementation choices, and strategic reforms in the science and technology field. Dr Singh underlined indigenous technologies' commercialisation and called for more robust public-private partnerships (PPP).
He instructed the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) to incorporate models like DBT-BIRAC and IN-SPACe for effective transfer of technology and private sector participation. He emphasized standardised technology protocols, simplicity in doing business, and innovation under the global ethos of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam".
ISRO Commended For SPADEX And Operation Sindoor
Praising the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Dr Singh complimented recent success with the SPADEX mission, especially the docking and undocking technology, which will be crucial for the future Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission.
He also praised the contribution of ISRO towards Operation Sindoor, saying, "Every Indian is proud of ISRO." ISRO is now working with 40 Union Ministries and 28 State Governments and has multiple space missions lined up.
India's International Footprint
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will be representing India on the Axiom Space Mission, where he will have seven microgravity experiments on board the International Space Station (ISS)—a step that solidifies India's developing international footprint in space studies and international partnerships.

Why are Maharashtra onion farmers asking for Rs 1 lakh per acre compensation?
Onion farmers in Nashik have recently written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding compensation of Rs 1 lakh per acre for damages suffered owing to unseasonal rainfall in May. Bharat Dighole, President, Maharashtra Onion Growers Association, said many farmers have completely lost their crop in the untimely rain. This year, Maharashtra registered 1007 per cent of normal rainfall in May. As against the 14.4 mm of normal rainfall, Maharashtra had received 159.4 mm of rainfall last month. In the onion belt of Nashik-Pune-Ahilyanagar, the rainfall has been exceptionally heavy. Nashik had received 747 per cent of its normal rainfall, whereas Pune and Ahilyangar received 948 per cent of their normal rainfall. Rainfall in May, although not unusual, happened at a time when onion harvesting got delayed, leading to greater losses. Farmers had trouble arranging for labour due to the high temperatures in April, otherwise, the crop could have been harvested after March. At present, wholesale onion prices at the Lasalgaon market in the Nashik district are ranging between Rs 1,100-1,200/quintal. These prices, farmers said, do not even meet the cost of production, which is almost Rs 2,000/quintal. 'Farmers who sold their onions at throwaway prices must be compensated,' Dighole said. In order to help farmers get better prices, the Centre has asked the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) as well as the National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) to commence procurement of onions. 'The base price for this procurement must be Rs 2,000/quintal so that the wholesale market prices rise,' Dighole argued. Tata Motors' Sales Decline 8.6% To 70,187 Units In May 2025
Mumbai: Tata Motors on Sunday reported an 8.6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) drop in vehicle sales for May 2025 across domestic and international markets, continuing a trend of subdued performance in its core domestic business. The company sold a total of 70,187 units in May 2025, down from 76,766 units in the same month last year (May 2024), according to a Tata Motors statement. In the domestic market, total sales fell by 10 per cent, with 67,429 units sold in May 2025, compared to 75,173 units in May 2024. Commercial vehicle sales also registered a decline, with 28,147 units sold last month, down 5 per cent from 29,691 units a year earlier. Within the commercial vehicle segment, the domestic sale of medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MH&ICV), which includes trucks and buses, stood at 12,406 units in May 2025 -- slightly lower than the 12,987 units recorded in May 2024. However, total MH&ICV sales, including exports, showed marginal improvement, rising to 13,614 units from 13,532 units a year ago. These figures include the performance of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, both subsidiaries of Tata Motors Limited. The latest sales data comes on the heels of the company's sharp 51 per cent drop in consolidated net profit for the fourth quarter (Q4) of FY25. Tata Motors reported a net profit of Rs 8,470 crore for the January-March 2025 period, down from Rs 17,407 crore in the same quarter last year, despite stable revenue and improved performance by its luxury arm, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). Tata Motors announced a final dividend of Rs 6 per equity share for FY25, pending shareholder approval. On the positive side, JLR's strong demand in North America and Europe provided some cushion to the company's overall performance, with a 1.1 per cent rise in sales volume and 2.4 per cent growth in revenue.
