Alex Caruso wore his Lakers championship ring to Thunder's parade

For a moment, some Los Angeles Lakers experienced some momentary anger that was directed at a player who used to be a huge fan favorite on the team.
Guard Alex Caruso, the super sub and cult hero from the Lakers' 2020 championship squad, earned his second world title on Sunday when the Oklahoma City Thunder finished off the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. He said in the postgame interview that he now has a "real" championship, which made it seem as if he was throwing shade at the 2020 title that was won inside the Walt Disney World Resort bubble.
He then posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he had been imbibing and that it was just a sarcastic joke.
As if to further prove that his comment on Sunday was indeed a joke, he wore the championship ring he earned with the Lakers as a necklace pendant to the Thunder's victory parade.
While Caruso may not be the All-Star many Lakers fans claimed he was during the 2019-20 season, when he was among the top vote-getters in the fan vote, fans of the team undoubtedly wish he were still a member of the Purple and Gold. His elite defense and ability to effectively guard multiple positions, combined with his decent 3-point shooting and willingness to sacrifice his body for loose balls, have made him a valuable role player.

Thunder celebrate first NBA title with Oklahoma City parade

Oklahoma City Thunder fans celebrate at a parade and rally to pay tribute to the team's winning its first NBA title (Joshua Gateley) Oklahoma City Thunder players slapped hands with fans and let supporters touch the NBA championship trophy during a parade on Tuesday to celebrate the team's first title. The Thunder captured its first crown since moving from Seattle to Oklahoma City in 2008 by beating the Indiana Pacers on Sunday in a winner-take-all seventh game of the best-of-seven NBA Finals. Advertisement Police estimated more than 500,000 people gathered to see the parade and rally, some waiting 10 hours to see the Thunder players celebrate. "Thank you guys so much," NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander told fans at the rally in Oklahoma City. "Don't ever forget this. Moments like this, they don't always come along." Fans chanted "O-K-C" as players rolled by on several open-topped buses, Thunder stars spraying champagne onto the crowds that lined the downtown parade route before getting off the transport and walking on the streets, posing for photos and high-fiving fans. Gilgeous-Alexander, also the NBA Finals MVP and league scoring leader, carried the trophy for fans to touch, walking shirtless with a Canadian flag draped around his waist in tribute to his homeland. Advertisement Players, clad in white "champions" T-shirts, tossed out souvenirs to the crowd as they made the journey from Paycom Center, the Thunder's home arena, to a rally celebration in Scissortail Park. "Get loud OKC. You have been with us through all the ups and downs of the Thunder organization and we thank you," Thunder guard Luguentz Dort said. js/pb

Kyrie Irving and Mavs agree on $119M, 3-year deal that aligns with Anthony Davis, AP source says

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks and Kyrie Irving have agreed on a $119 million, three-year contract with the All-Star guard still recovering from a torn ACL that will sideline him into the 2025-26 season, a person with knowledge of the deal said Tuesday night. Irving is declining the $43 million player option in the final year of his current three-year contract, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal isn't expected to be finalized until the start of the new league year on July 6. The new contract will align Irving with co-star Anthony Davis, who joined the Mavericks in the seismic trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February. Davis has three years remaining on his contract, with a player option that now will be the same season as Irving in 2027-28. The agreement with Irving came on the eve of the NBA draft, with the Mavericks poised to take former Duke star Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick after winning the draft lottery despite having just a 1.8% chance to do so. Irving also is a Duke alum, as is young center Dereck Lively II. Once the nine-time All-Star returns from his injury, perhaps in December or January, all three among Irving, Lively and Flagg figure to be in the starting lineup if they are healthy. The 33-year-old Irving came to the Mavericks in a 2023 trade after a tumultuous tenure in Brooklyn. The idea then was to pair him with Doncic, and a year later the duo led Dallas to the NBA Finals for the first time in 13 years. Boston beat the Mavs in five games last June. The stunning decision to send Doncic to the Lakers elevated Irving's status, although Davis' championship pedigree with the Lakers essentially put the two on even footing. Irving, who has averaged 23.7 points and 5.6 assists over 14 seasons, and LeBron James won a title together with Cleveland in 2016. Davis went down with a groin injury in his Dallas debut, and before he could come back, Irving sustained his knee injury about a month after the Doncic trade. Skeptics were plentiful when the Mavs traded for Irving, who wanted out of Brooklyn after 3 1/2 seasons of disappointments on the court and plenty of drama off it. Earlier in the season he was dealt to Dallas, Irving was suspended by the Nets for what became eight games after the team said it was dismayed by his repeated failure to 'unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs.' That came shortly after Irving refused to issue the apology that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver sought for posting a link to an antisemitic work on his Twitter feed. Irving also wound up losing his long relationship with Nike as part of the massive fallout from what he tweeted and the reactions that followed. Irving also missed much of the 2021-22 season because of his refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19, which left him essentially ineligible to play in Brooklyn's home games for much of the season because of New York City rules put in place in response to the pandemic. There has been no such drama in Dallas, and Irving has enjoyed a resurgence in his career. He was on an expiring contract when the Mavs traded for him. During the 2023 offseason, Irving stayed with Dallas on a three-year deal with a player option in the final season. Now he's about to do it again.

Tyrese Haliburton Achilles injury: Father gives update on Pacers star

Tyrese Haliburton was ruled out quickly by the Pacers after suffering a scary lower right leg injury in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The team gave no further update on their star guard in the aftermath of the injury, but ESPN reporter Lisa Salters got more clarity about the injury from Haliburton's father John on Sunday night. 'Mr Haliburton confirmed it was an Achilles injury,' Salters said. 'He said Tyrese is doing as well as he can be under the circumstances. The entire family is back there with him, his mom, his dad, his brother. He said he seems to be in good spirits. He's watching the game and trying to root on his team from back in the locker room.' Advertisement Many injury analysts on social media suspect that Haliburton suffered a torn achilles after he collapsed to the ground on the play seven minutes into the game. Haliburton had erupted for nine points in those opening minutes, knocking down three 3s while playing through a calf strain that he suffered in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Haliburton reportedly would have been sidelined for multiple weeks with the calf strain if it occurred during the regular season. He did play through the injury in Game 6 without suffering a setback before his leg gave out in the first quarter of Game 7. If Haliburton is diagnosed with an Achilles tear, he will become the third star player in the Eastern Conference to suffer the injury during the postseason over the last two months. Damian Lillard suffered the injury in the Bucks' first round series against the Pacers. Jayson Tatum also went down with an Achilles tear in Game 4 of the Celtics' loss to the Knicks last month. Kevin Durant also suffered an Achilles tear while playing through a calf strain in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals. More Celtics content Read the original article on MassLive.
