Prolific Hubbard wrestler earns Student Athlete of the Week
HUBBARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Hubbard senior wrestler Emily Flynn will go down as one of the most prolific wrestlers the school has ever seen.
Not only does Flynn have a 4.0 GPA, she also has at least four school records.
'There's really no excuses, there's always time,' Flynn said. 'It's going to be hard, but you just have to do it.'
Flynn entered the 2025 OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament with 147 career wins. This is the second-most wins in the OHSAA Girls Wrestling record books.
'It's really exciting because I mean, all of my sisters wrestled, but back then it was all just boy stuff, there was really nothing for them. So they didn't really get a fair chance to leave their mark on the state record books,' Flynn said. ' I'm just excited that I can do it because they weren't able to.'
The record-breaker has four varsity letters on the wrestling team and three on the soccer team.
'It's really unbelievable because I started when I was six years old with the boys and I always wrestled with the boys,' Flynn said. 'In the past couple of years, as girls wrestling has grown, it's unbelievable. But now that I'm wrestling, people that are at my level that I can do so well and set so many records.'
Flynn is listed seven times in the OHSAA Record books. This past season before the state tournament, she had 72 takedowns — the third most in a single season.
She also posted 41 wins, which was tied for fifth in Ohio. Then she had 38 pins — the second-most in the OHSAA record books.
'I just always do the best I can, I take all the hardest classes,' Flynn said. 'I was voted most intelligent, so I just really try my best.'
Over the past two years, the Hubbard star has pinned 76 out of 81 opponents.
'I just love that knowing that little kids can look up to me and especially the girls on the team that have joined recently,' Flynn said. 'They all say, 'Oh yeah, you're like a great wrestler, but you're also really smart and you're just good overall.''
Flynn also has participated in National Honors Society, Ecology Club and Spanish Club.
Flynn has not decided where she wants to go to college, but she intends to major in biomedical engineering.

Centerville High School softball finishes runner-up in state championship
Centerville High School ended its softball season with an incredible run in the state tournament. Advertisement Centerville finished runner-up in its first trip to the State Final Four. TRENDING STORIES: The Elks fell behind, 2-0, after the Warriors scored twice in the first. Chloe Jett led off the fifth inning for Centerville with a triple and scored on an RBI groundout to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) – Dozens of Valley athletes reached the podium at the OHSAA State Track and Field meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University this past weekend. Watch above for reactions from some of the Valley's Division III track & field stars! McDonald's Carson Klase reached fifth place in the Boys 800-meter run and second place in the Boys 1600-meter run. He also took second along with Joey Cappuzzello, Josh Krumpak and Eddie Baldwin in the Boys 4×800-meter Relay. 'I'm proud, getting on the podium is always nice, especially doubling up on events,' said Klase. 'It's nice, I can't imagine much better.' McDonald boys as a whole also claimed a share of the Division III State Title with Huron. Maplewood's Andrew Donaldson took home second place in the Boys 800-meter run. He also claimed third place with Trevor Shipman, Ethan Nevinski and Micah Sparks in the Boys 4×800-meter Relay. 'I got to show up for, not just for my team, but show the underclassmen, the younger kids that you kick butt in practice and kick butt meets throughout the year you can yourself down here,' said Donaldson. LaBrae's Laylah Hayes took sixth place in the Girls 200-meter dash. 'All that hard work to be worth something, I missed my graduation for track, so it was all worth it in the end and super grateful to God,' said Hayes. Mineral Ridge's Dominic Pappagallo earned fourth place in the Boys 3200-meter run. 'Every single moment of my career from seventh grade to middle school to senior year, I just let it all out there,' said Pappagallo. 'Used all my training for this moment, I'm satisfied.'
