Lines grow for Real IDs at Arkansas revenue offices

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Time is ticking to get your Real ID. With the deadline on May 7, many Arkansans are lining up at revenue offices as they will be required to show their ID to fly or enter a federal building. To receive a REAL ID, the federal government requires Arkansans to confirm proof of residency, legal presence and identity and Social Security number through these forms of documentation: Passport or birth certificate Two proof of address documents such as utility bills or bank statements (dated within the last six months) Proof of identity (Current Driver's License, School or Work ID card, etc.) Social Security card Name change justification (Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree, Court order, etc.) For those waiting at the revenue office in downtown Little Rock, they say the process was long because of the wait time in line. 'The same people who were first in line when I got in line are still in line,' Avery Thomas-Wells said. 'It shouldn't be an hour to two-hour event.' Can you fly without a REAL ID after the May deadline? Catherine Harris said she waited in line for around two hours, but she still wasn't able to get her Real ID because she didn't have all the required documentation. 'That's probably my fault, I can't find my Social Security number anywhere,' Harris said. While James Williams says this was his second time coming back to the revenue office to get his Real ID after not having all of his documents. 'This is my second time coming back so I want to tell everyone make sure you have all your paperwork I didn't have mine,' Williams said. Some suggested for others who haven't got their Real IDs to show up once their Revenue Office opens, double-check for all their documents and make sure they pack their patience. Will you need a REAL ID to fly in 2025? Betsy Kemp said after two hours of waiting, she was 'elated' when she was finally able to get her Real ID.
