Variety was first to report the news, saying that her rep said she died of natural causes in her New York City home. Swit portrayed Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan for all 11 seasons of its run, earning Emmys twice among 10 nominations. And Swit was an active woman with a zest for life right up until the end. She was a frequent poster on Instagram, most recently showing support for co-star by liking his podcast posts just hours before her death.M*A*S*H fans also loved the message she posted for Memorial Day, which included a famous clip from the season 1 episode titled "Sometimes You Hear the Bullet" between Capt. Hawkeye Pierce (Alda) and Lt. Col. Henry Blake (McLean Stevenson) after losing a friend. "It's the first time I've cried since I came to this crummy place. I don't understand that…I mean, I know why I'm crying now, Tommy was my friend, and I watched him die. But I watched guys die almost every day, why didn't I ever cry for them?" wonders Hawkeye in the clip. "Because you're a doctor…look, all I know is what they taught me in command school. There are certain rules about a war. And rule No. 1 is young men die. And rule No. 2 is doctors can't change rule No. 1," replies Blake. On May 24, Swit also posted a carousel of photos from M*A*S*H to wish co-star Gary Burghoff a happy birthday. Burghoff played "Radar" O'Reilly on the show. "Happy happy birthday Gary!! Luvya tonsss!! 🎂🤍😘🎊 #mashfamily #mashfamforever #GaryBurghoff #RadarOReilly #HappyBirthday #hbd ❤️," wrote Swit. She was also quick to post a tribute to her co-star Patrick Adiarte when he passed away in April.
