James Bond Is Back In A Vintage Aston Martin DBS In New '007 First Light' Video Game

The first trailer for "007 First Light," the new James Bond game from IO Interactive, the studio behind the "Hitman" series came out yesterday. Set in a universe separate from the books and films, it's a bit of an origin story for the character, depicting a 26-year-old Bond going on a mission that will take him out of the Royal Navy and grant him his 00 status. We don't know the lead actor for the game yet, but in the trailer Bond kinda looks like Ethan Hunt. I think the game looks pretty awesome both in terms of graphics and gameplay, with a nice visual style and a mix of stealth, gadgetry and combat. But we're really here for the cars, and the three-minute trailer shows what Bond drives in one of the very first shots. Though "007 First Light's" developers say the game isn't based on any previous 007 media, Bond's car is one that has been used in the movies before: An original Aston Martin DBS. Read more: These Are The Dumbest Looking Cars Of All Time, According To You The first-gen DBS was first sold in 1967 as a successor to the DB6, first coming with an inline-6 before a V8 was added in 1969. It was sold until 1972, after which it was replaced by the V8 and Vantage models. George Lazenby's Bond drove a brown 1969 DBS in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," one of my favorites in the franchise. It's not exactly a fun automotive moment, though, as Bond's wife Tracy (played by the spectacular Diana Rigg) is shot and killed through the windshield. That movie's musical theme can be heard in "First Light's" trailer, too. You can also see a DBS being fitted with gadgets in Q's office in the 1971 film "Diamonds Are Forever," and of course its V8 Vantage successor was driven by Timothy Dalton in "The Living Daylights" and Daniel Craig in "No Time To Die." In the game's trailer we see Bond driving fast as hell and drifting the DBS along a mountain pass to chase a villian who's driving a red X150 Jaguar XK, an excellent baddie car choice. The banana yellow paint of Bond's DBS sure seems like a nod to the similarly colored DBS driven by Roger Moore in "The Persuaders," which ran from 1971 to 1972. I don't think this chase scene is just a cutscene, as parts of the trailer make it look like the player will get to do a lot of the driving (and drifting and crashing through fences). There also is a flash of another scene where Bond seems to be driving a garbage truck through a tunnel, and in another moment in Q's office there's a Triumph motorcycle with a flamethrower at the back and what looks like the new Aston Martin Valhalla under a cover. We can also see other real cars like the Land Rover Defender in the background of some scenes, so there's surely other real-life cars in the game as well. "007 First Light" will release in 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Want more like this? A new James Bond has been revealed for 007: First Light – and he's 26

Amid the endless chatter about who might eventually assume the role of James Bond in the movie franchise, there has finally been some news. An official new James Bond has been announced, and he's young at 26. He'll be appearing in a forthcoming Playstation game called 007: First Light that is being released in 2026 and he looks very different to any Bond that has come before. For a starter, he's Gen Z. Playstation has said: 'In 007 First Light, play as James Bond, a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless new recruit, and discover an origin story for the first time. 'This is Bond as you've never seen him before — the youngest Bond fans have ever met. In 007 First Light, at only 26 years old, he isn't the fully fledged 007 you know from the tux-and-martini days but a man with sharp instincts, sometimes reckless, who is still learning when to fight, when to bluff, and when to disappear into the shadows.' Read more: Play Video In the story, the new digital version of Bond is working as a Navy air crewman for MI6 training to be a fully operational spy. The story has been developed in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios. Amazon acquired the rights to James Bond earlier this year in a move that was viewed as historic. It isn't yet clear what exactly the purchase will mean for the franchise, although the studio has committed to honouring the legacy of 007 in any further movie releases. Players of 007: First Light will get to travel the world to exotic locations from 'snow-drenched mountains to sun-soaked beaches' and meet iconic characters from the films and books, including Q, M and Moneypenny. There will also be the addition of new characters, including James Bond's mentor Greenaway, who will teach Bond the art of combat. More details are to follow ahead of the game's launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026. Last year one of Sean Connery's most iconic Bond films, Goldfinger, celebrated its 60th anniversary, and City AM's Deputy Life&Style Editor took an Aston Martin for a spin through the Alps to celebrate. The last James Bond film to be released in cinemas was No Time To Die, Daniel Craig's swansong, in 2021. As for the new James Bond for the film franchise, despite numerous reports last year stating at Aaron Taylor Johnson was near to signing a contract, nothing has been revealed yet. Other names in the ring include Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and Josh O'Connor. Read more: Sign in to access your portfolio

The New ‘James Bond' Game's James Bond Is a Little Baby Bond

We've known for a while that the video gaming match made in heaven that is pairing IO Interactive–the studio behind the Hitman games–with the James Bond franchise. After all, Hitman is already essentially Bond with a bald guy and more ludicrous improvised weapons, why not let them actually take a crack with 007? After years of waiting, we finally have our first look: and IO is definitely shaking things up, and leaving them rather unstirred. Last night during Sony's Playstation State of Play livestream, IO debuted the first trailer for 007: First Light, giving us a look at the tone to expect out of their twist on Bond–a wholly original rendition of the agent, of course, rather than being built on any of the prior actors to take on the mantle. It's got a very action packed modern day spy-fi vibe: you've got sneaking, you've got shooting, you've got lavish locales, beautiful women for Bond to flirt and fight with, high-tech gadgetry. It feels like a proper whizz-blend of all the eras of Bond, from Connery to Craig, in a contemporary setting. Plus, it uses the On Her Majesty's Secret Service theme for its big dramatic music track over the classic Bond motif, so you know it's good. Being a brand new Bond, First Light will follow the plight of the reckless, but charming young MI6 agent as he's tapped by M for a mission that could grant him his fabled 00 status. And we mean young: although IO's staying tight-lipped about just who's voicing the character yet, First Light's Bond has been confirmed to be just 26 years old in the game's story, making him the youngest-ever Bond. Bond's age in Fleming's novels has always been obfuscated, but he's typically presented as being in his mid 30s to early 40s, while George Lazenby was youngest actor to play Bond on the big screen in his solo outing for On Her Majesty's Secret Service. But even he was 29 at the time, 3 years older than First Light's Gen Z Bond. James should've been at the club (he at least briefly gets to go to one in this trailer)! We realistically might have our first Bond who has realistically played Fortnite with the boys! All your favourite heroes are getting rebooted to be younger and hotter and more licensed to kill than you! God, the passage of time is a lot sometimes. It's kind of fascinating to see that First Light's Bond, even at his young age, still carries a lot of the same early origin details as Fleming's novels had for Bond: the climbing accident that orphaned him, his career in the British navy before he signed up for MI6. Young James has already lived a life before he gets set on a globe-trotting spy adventure. Now he's all grown up and flinging pistols at baddies' heads. 007: First Light will hit PC, Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch 2 when it arrives some time in 2026

007: FIRST LIGHT Trailer Drops - A Bold New Bond Origin Story From the HITMAN Devs — GeekTyrant

IO Interactive just pulled the curtain back on 007: First Light during Sony's latest State of Play, and Bond fans might like what they see! I sure do! Previously codenamed Project 007, the game marks IO's much-anticipated leap from hired assassin to international spy. The trailer gives us our first glimpse at their version of Bond, and it's not the polished MI6 veteran you might expect. This is a raw, unshaped Bond, "before the tuxedos and martinis," as IO CEO Hakan Abram puts it. The trailer teases a recruitment file, highlighting his academic record more than any deadly mission log. The Bond we meet here doesn't mimic any single actor from the films. Instead, IO's take is something new, an original character model that subtly nods to the many Bonds who came before, without being beholden to one. What really lands, though, is the gameplay style. It's third-person action, as hoped, and you can instantly feel the Hitman style. Stealthy takedowns, distraction gadgets, and some very creative ways to stay unseen, it's IO playing to its strengths. Of course, no Bond game is complete without an Aston Martin, and the trailer doesn't disappoint there either. There's a high-octane car chase that throws IO into unfamiliar territory, but it's pretty awesome. Mix that in with a few explosive set pieces and a gallery of Bond Girls, and you've got something that feels like a cinematic event waiting to happen. 007: First Light is set to arrive in 2026 for PlayStation 5, with a deeper gameplay dive promised later this week. Until then, consider our martinis stirred.
