Last month, I brought you news of a universal travel adapter made with nomads in mind. The Tessan 140W adapter has retractable prongs to fit most power outlets around the world, plus it works with AC voltages ranging from 100 to 250W at 50/60Hz.
Now Tessan has jumped the shark with its latest travel adapter in the form of a new charger with a massive 205W output which could easily power a couple of laptops and most of the other tech you want to take on your travels, such as a watch, smartphone, Bluetooth speaker or earbuds.
GaN Technology
The all-new Tessan 205W is only possible due to the advances in GaN technology. Whereas older power supplies were based on silicon technology, newer power supplies increasingly harness the power of Gallium Nitride. The result is smaller power adapters that run cooler, charge faster and are safer thanks to their advanced monitoring capabilities.

I remember when laptops first launched; the power supplies were often as large as a shoebox and ran hot. Now, thanks to the development of GaN technology, a power supply can be small enough to fit in a coat pocket and have enough outlets and muscle to power the most demanding laptops and gadgets.
The Tessan 205W has seven power ports and features retractable prongs for sue with U.S., U.K., E.U. and Australasian power outlets. However, even with its GaN circuitry, the weight of the Tessan 205W travel adapter is probably at the limit of what a U.S. power outlet can cope with and not work loose.
Fits Most Power Outlets
It's still a chunky piece of kit but not too large considering it has seven ports. I haven't been able to try it out on U.S.-style power outlet but it should be fine unless you have very old and loose outlets.

This travel adapter can plug into almost any AC power outlet and automatically adapts to voltages between 100 and 250W. There is a built-in fuse for safety and circuitry that monitors temperature and performance many times per minute. There's also an auto-cutout should anything go wrong, plus there's a spare fuse onboard should you need it.
At the top of the Tessan 205W's faceplate are three USB-C ports offering a total power budget of 45W between them. The leftmost port is PD-compatible and would be suitable for charging a smartphone. The other two ports would be fine for charging or powering a tablet and a pair of wireless earbuds.
At the base of the Tessan 205W, pointing to the ground when it's plugged in, are three USB-C ports and a single USB-A port. The four ports point downwards which means less strain being placed on the cables, unlike those that are plugged in horizontally.

The four main ports share a total maximum power budget of 160W which can be divided between the four ports, depending on the gadgets plugged into them. These are the ports you would probably use for charging a laptop and they can easily handle one with a big power draw like Apple's 16-inch MacBook.
The overall build quality of the final prototype that I saw prior to launch felt solid and appeared to be well-made. The use of GaN technology means it runs cool and has extensive safety features that are constantly monitoring for problems like increased temperatures.
