Hailing from Rajasthan's Jaipur, Kanishak Kataria completed his Bachelor's in Technology with Honors in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Bombay. Soon, he quickly landed a high-paying job with Samsung in South Korea. Despite his huge salary of Rs 1 crore, Kanishak's dream was to become an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.
Speaking about his academic achievements, Kanishak secured All India Rank(AIR) 44 in IIT JEE 2010. In addition, he secured All India Rank(AIR) 1 in the 11th National Science Olympiad and 2nd International Mathematics Olympiad in 2009. He is a recipient of the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Scholarship in 2009 and the National Talent Search Examination Scholarship in 2008.
In 2017, Kanishak left his job and returned to Jaipur with a determined mindset to crack the highly competitive UPSC Civil Services Examination. With unwavering dedication and focused preparation, he appeared for the exam and achieved remarkable success by securing All India Rank (AIR) 1 in his very first attempt — an extraordinary accomplishment that inspired aspirants across the country.
Kanishak Kataria was the top scorer in the civil services final exam 2018. He was motivated to pursue public service by his father, Sanwar Mal Verma, who was an IAS officer and Director of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department of Rajasthan.
Kanishak Kataria belongs to the Scheduled Caste(SC) category. Speaking of his UPSC Civil Services Result, he scored 942 marks in the written examination, 179 marks in the personality test. Overall, he scored 1121 marks in the Civil Services(Main) Examination, 2018. He successfully cleared the examination with mathematics as his optional subject.
