Former MTV video jockey Matt Pinfield has announced that he is 'fighting my way back' after suffering a massive stroke earlier this year. Pinfield, 63, shared the health update via X on Friday, April 25. 'Slowly but surely of physical my way back!' the former VJ wrote. The former SiriusXM host suffered a massive stroke in January after years of health problems. Prior to the stroke, Pinfield was hospitalized in 2018 after being hit by a car. He also spent a stint in rehab for substance abuse and heart issues in 2017. Getty Images 'Guys, I'm alive,' he told the outlet on March 13. 'I'm recovering and am going to come back swinging. I was unresponsive for two months. Friends were thinking they were coming to see me for the last time. The doctors never expected me to speak or to walk again.' Pinfield added that his oldest daughter, Jessica, took over temporary guardianship of his medical and financial decisions while he was hospitalized in the ICU. Before that, he appeared on an episode of 'The Real World.' Pinfield later worked as vice president of A&R at Columbia Records from 2001 to 2006 before hosting several radio and TV programs on FM, Sirius XM radio and AXS TV. 'I always loved Lou Reed. So it was a big deal for me when he came down and did '120 Minutes' at the old National Studios,' he told The Post in 2012 regarding his favorite NYC venues and encounters with rock icons. 5 The radio personality made his mark on the entertainment industry in the 1990s hosting the MTV alt-rock show '120 Minutes.' NEW YORK — Former MTV VJ and New Jersey native Matt Pinfield has been 'incapacitated' after suffering a stroke, his family said. Pinfield, 63, had the incident in Los Angeles on Jan. 6 and is incapable of moving or making cognitive decisions, according to court documents obtained by the Asbury Park Press. His daughters, Jessica and Maya Pinfield, are petitioning the court for a temporary conservatorship and asking that the court not give his girlfriend Kara Brown any decision-making power. Los Angeles radio station KCSN said earlier this month that Pinfield was taking a leave of absence for health reasons. Pinfield began DJing out of his family home in East Brunswick and on college radio at Rutgers. He gained a following spinning records at the Melody Bar in New Brunswick in the 1980s and '90s. At the same time, he was the program director of Eatontown's WHTG-FM, which became a renowned alternative rock station. Between 1995 and 1999, he hosted '120 Minutes' — another alternative rock launching pad — and other programs on MTV. From 2001 to 2006, he was the vice president of A&R and artist development for Columbia Records. He's since been a radio personality in a number of cities, an occasional TV host and has made frequent appearances as a talking head in documentaries. 'I found my calling by the time I was in kindergarten,' he wrote in his autobiography 'All These Things That I've Done: My Insane, Improbable Rock Life.' 'All I wanted to do was listen to records and get other people as excited about them as I was.'
