Oman to host 13th China roundtable to boost Arab Trade Integration
Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman, in partnership with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Government of the People's Republic of China, is hosting the 13th China Roundtable on WTO Accession from 13–15 May in Muscat.
Held under the theme 'Advancing Arab Economies: From Strategic Accession to Global Trade Integration,' the high-level event underscores Oman's commitment to international cooperation and the multilateral trading system.
The roundtable includes five main sessions and a high-level forum marking the 25th anniversary of Oman's accession to the WTO, reflecting on the nation's progress and its role in global trade.
Day one focuses on the Gulf Cooperation Council's economic visions and the role of trade in diversification. On the second day, a joint Arab study on WTO accession best practices will be launched, exploring the experiences of newly acceded Arab states and those in the process.
Discussions will examine regional economic integration, technical assistance during accession, and current developments in WTO membership procedures.
The final day highlights Oman's economic diplomacy and its role in promoting regional stability, while also addressing private sector contributions to WTO engagement and economic reform.
Faisal bin Ali al Hinai, Deputy Head of Oman's Mission to the WTO, described the event as a critical platform for dialogue between WTO members and aspiring nations, particularly in a region where only 14 of the 22 Arab League countries currently hold WTO membership.
He added that the roundtable strengthens Oman's reputation as a regional hub for trade diplomacy and economic dialogue.
