Arunachal's Hillang scripts history with gold, silver in bodybuilding

1 2 Itanagar: Hillang Yajik has scripted history by becoming the first female physique sports athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to win medals at an international event, following her stellar performance at the 15th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships held in Thimphu, Bhutan. Representing India at the regional championship held from June 11 to 15, Yajik clinched one gold medal and one silver medal, setting a milestone for the northeastern state in the realm of physique sports. Hailing from Kurung Kumey district, the 24-year-old athlete made her mark in the Women's Model Physique (up to 155cm) category, showcasing a blend of athletic excellence, discipline and determination. With this achievement, Yajik not only set a benchmark for Arunachal Pradesh but also emerged as a powerful inspiration for aspiring women athletes. Yajik was earlier a silver medalist at the 13th Federation Cup held in Goa and had qualified for the 56th Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championships following national trials in Kochi in 2024. CM Pema Khandu and deputy CM Chowna Mein led the state in congratulating the trailblazing athlete for her achievement on the international stage.
