Ohio National Guard running night flying missions in Toledo area

The Ohio National Guard's 180th Fighter Wing, which is based in northwest Ohio, is participating in night flying this week. The pilots and crew started the nighttime missions with F-16 Fighting Falcons Monday night and will continue that work through Thursday, according to a post on social media from the wing. The 180th Fighter Wing formed in 1995. The headquarters is in Swanton, near Toledo. Past night flight missions have been heard and noticed by southeast Michigan residents.

Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) on their acceptance to one of the U.S. Military Service Academies at 180th Fighter Wing, Ohio National Guard, Sunday. Saxton will attend the U.S. Naval Academy. Each student received offers of appointment for the Class of 2029. COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Residents in parts of southern and central Ohio could see or hear fighter jets flying over their homes Wednesday morning. According to the 180th Fighter Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard, it will conduct an air defense exercise Wednesday, between 8 and 10:30 a.m. in and around the Dayton and Columbus areas. Why tornado sirens are going off across Ohio on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 Residents may hear or see fighter jets in close proximity to a Civil Air Patrol Aircraft, which will be taking on the role of a Track of Interest (TOI). A TOI is an aircraft that has been identified as a potential threat. The purpose of the exercise is to evaluate response and coordination procedures and while scheduled for Wednesday morning, the exercise flights could be relocated, delayed or cancelled due to inclement weather.
