Killing of 18-year-old man is Montreal's sixteenth homicide of the year, police say

Montreal police say a suspicious death that occurred Saturday evening marks the city's 16th homicide of the year. Police spokesperson Antony Dorelas says the victim is an 18-year-old man. So far no arrests have been made for the killing, which occurred in Montreal's Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. Police say a second victim who suffered non-life-threatening injuries has also been found. First responders were called to the crime scene at about 10 p.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Notre-Dame and Sainte-Catherine streets. At this time last year, Montreal had seen 17 of the 32 homicides that would occur in 2024, compared to 31 homicides in 2023 and 42 in 2022.

Officers said they found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene. (Twitter/@HamiltonPolice) Police have arrested an 18-year-old after he allegedly threatened to hurt or kill students at a high school in Hamilton. Hamilton police say the threat was directed at the students of Nora Frances Henderson Secondary school. They add that threats were also allegedly directed to a business near Upper Wentworth Street and Mohawk Road, adding the threat 'referenced some hate-bias overtones.' Police arrested the unnamed 18-year-old without incident, adding they are confident there is no threat to public safety. He is facing one charge of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. The charge has not been tested in court. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Police: 18-year-old shot in the face during group fight at Apple Valley park

An 18-year-old man was shot in the face when a fight broke out among a group at a park in Apple Valley early Saturday morning. Apple Valley PD says the incident was reported at around 12:40 a.m., with officers sent to the 6800 block of Fortino Street, by Kelley Park, on a report of gunshots. "According to multiple witnesses, a group was involved in a physical altercation at a nearby park when gunshots were fired," police said. "The suspects fled the area in multiple vehicles prior to the officers' arrival." Officers found shell casings in "three distinct areas near the park." While at the scene, they were informed the injured 18-year-old, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the face, had arrived at the police station. He was given medical aid before being taken to a nearby hospital with "life-threatening injuries." No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should contact Apple Valley PD at (952) 322-2323.
