Restaurant owners grill up custom dishes for Owensboro Burger Week
OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — The 2025 Burger Week is underway in Owensboro and nearly 50 burgers are on this year's menu.
The annual event began in 2021 as a way to push support to local businesses after the COVID-19 pandemic. Each year, the event has gotten bigger than the last as city officials tell us last year drew in approximately $1.5 million in sales from featured burger week items.
Eyewitness News spoke with the restaurant owners of The Cottage, Windy Hollow Biscuit House and Libertalia to see how this year's festivities has affected their business.
Libertalia owner, Chris Hamilton, was so busy he had to speak to us from behind the grill. He says the annual event is a 'remarkable experience' and tells us sales from one day of burger week is comparable to two weeks worth of normal sales.
At Windy Hollow, owner Hallie McCarthy tells us the story of their burger and how it was named in honor of hostess Sarah Elliot. She says Elliot was also a longtime educator for Daviess County.
McCarthy tells us they are glad this event gets to highlight the small businesses in Owensboro, especially those that typically have burgers on their daily menu.
At The Cottage, owner Marlene Knight tells us they have exceeded the amount of supplies they allotted for the week and had to regain a bit to be able to finish out the rest of the week.
With 49 burgers on the menu, local foodies have until Saturday, March 15 to enjoy these burgers and a winner will be crowned next week.
