Top-flight women's soccer player in Mexico given six-year ban over alleged match-fixing

An unnamed women's soccer player in the Mexican top-flight has been banned from all football-related activity for six years, following an investigation into alleged match-fixing. The Mexican Football Federation's (FMF) confirmed in a statement that an unnamed player of Mazatlan FC, 16th in the Liga MX Feminil Clausura, has been sanctioned after hearings took place and evidence was reviewed by a disciplinary committee. Advertisement has approached both the FMF and Mazatlan FC for comment on the identity of the player. The FMF said the alleged match manipulation occurred in the 2025 Clausura competition — which took place between January and April. The competition follows on from the Apertura campaign, which is held between August and November. Mazatlan finished 16th out of 18 teams in the Clausura, winning three of their 17 matches. The most notable of their victories was a 1-0 win over Juarez, who finished the campaign in eighth place. Their other wins came against fellow strugglers Puebla and Necaxa. The FMF said that in line with their disciplinary regulations, alongside FIFA and the FMF's Code of Ethics, the player involved has been given a six-year ban from 'any activity related to professional football,' including roles in playing, 'administrative and/or representation'. Advertisement The FMF added that the case has been extended to FIFA, world football's governing body, due to its 'seriousness.' Mazatlan said in a statement that it 'recognises and supports' the sanction issued by the FMF, and reiterated its 'commitment to society and Mexican soccer' to upkeep the 'values of sport and promote fair play.'
